[ Oh shit, it's Larx. Or actually, it isn't. Not the one most people are familiar with. It's his much older, future self, hanging out on the roof of the elevator in the apartments, where he can't be seen or sensed until it's too late. He's just waiting for random passerby to harass, maybe kill, maybe gut and hang from their own intestines down the fronts of buildings... It's been a long time since he's had any fun around here, between how dull this current timeline is and the people in it. He's looking for some good fun or some good bait. But he's not picky, and he's terribly patient. ]

[yayyyyy Aden's the best. she pulls them over and stashes them at her side for later, managing a smile for him.]

[d'awww. that gets a more genuine smile out of her.]

...c'mere, I want a hug. An Aden hug will fix me the rest of the way.

I didn't know I had these powers. Don't worry, I'll use them wisely.

[Case in point, by moving closer and holding his arms out.]

[she leans over into the hug, and wraps her arms around his neck, but can't hide a tiny pained noise, and quickly switches which cheek she has pressed to his shoulder. the one side was smushing her ear. ;o;]

You'd better. I'd hate to think of you out there hugging Heartless or something stupid.

[He cringes at the sound and stays completely still until he's sure she's comfortable and not in pain. Then he gently puts his hands on her back and rubs her shoulderblades.]

Do I look like a Kairi to you?

Not as much as I do, no. You're a little too tall and skinny and pale to be a Kairi.

[wehhh, that feels nice. she feels safer around him, too, in a way that she didn't before, even though she's in a perfectly safe location.]

You think so?

[This stunning revelation has destroyed everything he knew! His whole life is a lie! He just stays still, letting her lean against him as long as she likes.]

Yeah, but I think you should try it for next Halloween now.

[she'd be pretty happy to just lean on him for the rest of the night, but alas, that would get weird eventually, so she finally lets go of him and slumps back against the pillows again. she still looks pretty unhappy and distracted as she eats more chocolate.]

Fat chance. Kairi's aren't scary.

[He pauses abruptly, freezing in the middle of stretching.]

I was about to say. Dad's pretty scary when he needs to be.

[stop distracting her, Aden, she wants to thank you/ask you questions/confess self-conscious feelings to.]

[Then talk, woman. He's right here.]

Trust me, I know. I even have the advantage of hearing stories from way back.

[she's quiet for couple of minutes, not looking at him as she finds her words and gathers the courage to even ask him anything. when she finally does, it's in an undertone, like there's anything else making noise in here that would somehow obscure it so he couldn't hear her. she's still not looking up from the chocolate bar in her lap.]

... do you... think my ears are ugly?

[He looks genuinely shocked when she asks that. It was probably the last thing he was expecting.]

What? No, they'll be fine. They're not even scarred as far as I can tell.

[Yes, he thinks she only means because of the injuries she suffered yesterday.]

No, I don't mean that... it's just that... I know they're not normal, and I like them, but...

[she likes them except for times like this, that is. now she's curling in on herself a little, like she needs to protect herself from something (like the affirmation of everything Larx said to her).]

[That surprises him back into silence.]

If you like them, then who cares? You're seriously going to talk about normal in this place?

[He leans back a little, eying her carefully.]

Don't let Larxene bullshit you. They're not ugly or weird or whatever. I like them. Then again, I'm not exactly the go-to guy for normalcy, either.

He just... he said what I've always secretly thought, and it hurt, and I had to wonder if maybe he was right.

[her hair is hiding most of her expression, but her voice probably sounds a little wobbly and faltering, like she's about to cry.]

That's what he does. You know that. His type pick people apart and use that to their advantage. He wanted to hurt you.

[He frowns.]

My mom's an unforgivable backstabber whose overcome by guilt even after this long, tainted by the dark essence of a woman whose never going to go away. Your dad's a murderer and a monster. You've heard it all. Same old bullshit. Everyone has at least one thing, that one little insecurity that people like Larxene or Marluxia or the bad Rikus pick up on and feed to infect that person like a fucking parasite.

Anyone who thinks your ears are ugly or whatever isn't worth knowing.

[she jerks her head up and then just stares at him until that last, and if she wasn't in such a shitty emotional place she'd just agree with him and admit that she was being silly, but everything sucks right now except for Aden and what he's saying. hi, Aden, you now have an armful of teary teenaged girl, who just flung herself into your arms even though it made all of her sore muscles hurt like a bitch.]

Why are you so awesome?

[Oh, hi, it's just what he wanted. Minus the teary part. No, he doesn't mind more hugs, even surprise teary hugs, and gently wraps his arms around her.]

Because I'm me, and I'm right, and you know that.

You're the best, and if you ever disappear for some reason I will probably just fall apart without you to keep my head on straight.

[this is muffled, into his shoulder. she probably would just flail herself into oblivion over stupid shit if he wasn't around.]

Oh please. Everyone would. I am the foundation that keeps you all sane.

[He grins, not that she can see it right now, but she can probably hear it in his tone.]

Yeah, but me especially.

[she rubs her cheek against his shirt to mop the escaped tears off her face, and then pulls back a little, hesitates for a second, and then kisses his cheek.]

But really, you are the best, and it's thanks to you that I'm still here and in one piece.

[He doesn't care about having his shirt used as a handkerchief, but the kiss on his cheek makes his eyebrows go up. Then he makes a face.]

Man, it was a close call. You have no idea how much I wanted to jump down there.

Daddy was right, though, if you'd jumped in right away Larxene would've just hurt you too, or taken me somewhere else. I'm really glad you came to get them, even though it meant I got hurt a little.

[so was he around for any of the screaming, and did he get close enough to tell that she was absolutely terrified at the time and is therefore putting on a brave face right now? >.> ]
