(no subject)

[ There are some things Riku just isn't very good at. Ice-skating is one of them. This is only a problem as the streets have frozen over completely. It's cold enough that snow could start (and stick) any day now. Has that fountain always been there? Probably. Now it's iced over, a frozen work of art spilling out into the streets. It's almost hard to find ground that isn't coated in a thick layer of ice. Riku's holding onto a lamp post, trying to get her footing enough to get back to the apartments. She's not the only one. I mean, there's a tentacle monster trying to suck on a piece of ice still attached to the fountain. ]

[Riku stares for a few seconds in dumbstruck horror before turning her attention back to Axel. Domestic. Right.]

[he puts on a ridiculously exaggerated pout for that. you're so mean to him, Riku. ;C ]

God, you're so horrible to me, I'm not sure now why I still want to be friends with you so badly.

[he's just joking, of course; he seems to be in pretty good spirits today, just happy to be spending time with a good friend, and going to do things so his fabulous husband doesn't have to freeze his ass off unnecessarily. :D and fiiiiiiine, off he goes ahead of her to melt a path to the store.]

Because I'm amazing.

[She gives him a shove and then pockets her hands because they are freezing. She'll be following along the melted path.]

Oh right, somehow I forgot. At least it's not too far, I'd hate to get tired and have to leave you stranded and surrounded by ice.

[by contrast, he looks like he's out for a stroll on a nice summer day; no goosebumps, no flush from the cold, nothing. there's steam curling around his feet where he's standing in melted icy places, though.]

I'll consider myself lucky.

[And not push him into a frozen pole or something, that would be mean. She is very envious of his warmth right now. She has on a turtleneck, jeans, and sneakers, and they are doing absolutely nothing to keep her warm.]

[that would be quite mean, but at least he wouldn't stick, and wouldn't have more than a minor bruise from it. as for her being freezing, he'll give her a surprise warming hug in a minute. P: ]

Hey, maybe for the times I'm not around and it's like this, you could get some skates or something and have Serein pull you around.

[Now that makes her laugh a little. Also warming hugs will get smacks.]

I tried iceskating once. Didn't go so well. But Serein loves this kind of weather.

Maybe you could sit on a trashcan lid for it.

[whoosh whoosh fire and melting ice and stuff, he's so awesome. he clears a good distance in front of them, and then suddenly turns around and scoops Riku up into one of his off-the-ground full body hugs (like the one Kai was told to give her for her birthday). after half a second, she should start to feel delicious warmth seeping into her whole body. he's not putting her down until she hits him or feels completely warm, whichever comes first.]

[She had already opened her mouth to respond, so when he swoops in on her like that it makes her shriek. She instinctively grabs hold of him when she can't feel ground anymore, but one of her hands comes up to push on his face. It's only a little half-hearted.]

Axel.

[he's just grinning, and uses the momentum of her pushing his face to glance back over his shoulder and see how far away from the store they are. they're close enough, so he changes plans and shifts her up into a bridal-style (heehee) carry in his arms.]

We'll get there faster this way, since I don't have to melt it all for myself. Just relax and enjoy it and don't bother complaining, because it won't make me set you down.

[No, she's just going to keep shoving at his face. It's hard to resist warm when you're freezing your ass off, and she's not struggling nearly as much as she could, mostly because she doesn't want him to drop her and her head crack open on the ice.]

This isn't any faster.

[he wouldn't drop her, he's way better at the reflex thing than that, give him a little credit. but he gets a little less relaxed, and his expression turns serious, eyebrows furrowing, though he's not looking down at her; wouldn't do to trip and fall on top of her.]

It's fine, and it's easier for me, and there's nothing wrong with this, so quit bitching. I'm carrying you because I like helping people and I like making people warm when they're cold, and I like using what I have available to me to do things for my friends. It's not because you're weak, or a girl, or whatever sort of ingrained dysfunctional thing it is that makes you resistant to people helping you out like this unless you're so injured or exhausted that you can't even move. Just let me do this.

[seriously, Riku, cut it the fuck out. if he sounds more invested in it than he really should be, it's only because he's spent years overcoming his own dysfunctions and becoming a little more "normal" every day.]

[She stops fighting and struggling when he starts up on that (specifically, at the "quit bitching" part) just so she can stare at him as he talks, her expression... Well, to be honest, there's surprise there, but mostly she just looks... perplexed. That kind of came out of nowhere, in her opinion. She drops her arms completely when he goes silent, crossing them loosely over her stomach, and turns to look at where they're going.]

If anyone else sees this I'm pushing you in a snowbank.

[his expression softens again, and he looks a little guilty.]

...sorry. I just... you're always so resistant to the hugging and the physical stuff and stuff like this, and you don't need to be. Believe me, I know how hard it is to break the habits like that, I had plenty of my own. Still have some of them, actually. But it just confuses the hell out of my instincts when I go to do something helpful or affectionate and you close up and fight it.

[here they are, anyway, and he's setting her back on her feet at the edge of the sidewalk outside the store.]

[She rolls her eyes. Stop being annoying and then making her feel bad because you're annoying, Axel. I mean. No, she doesn't really think he's annoying, and she thinks any guilt he might have over that is ridiculous, and she'll let him know it by punching his arm. And by punching I mean it's more like a brofist, because all she really does is tap her knuckles against his shoulder.]

[that's his special talent, Riku, which goes hand in hand with knowing exactly which buttons to push when it comes to Rikus. but awww, a brofist, she IS his friend. c: ]

I'm apologizing because it was a little sudden, I guess. And because that's what I do.

Maybe her older self is really mean and acts really friendly with Axels just to fuck with them. Either way, Riku's putting her hands in her pockets again.
