[in a hallway just off the main area, Kai seems to have fallen. one hand is against the wall, nails almost digging into it. his other hand is pressed against his forehead, and he's curled over himself on his knees. his face isn't very visible, but he looks pained and like he's concentrating on something, eyes squeezed shut and teeth gritted.]

(ooc: Meditation didn't settle completely, he's trying to sort his memories. Go ahead and startle him, and prepare for massive amounts of confusion. 8D)

Hmmm... well, if you want, you could help look through this stuff! You might be able to find something easier than I could.

[he's somewhat wary of looking at the notes, in case Kai couldn't tell from his expression. he's not sure what sort of things he'd find.]

[he sees that expression.]

It just... feels wrong, for me to be looking at anything you might have written about other people. Like reading someone's diary.

Well, so far I haven't found anything about other people... mostly notes about this place and a list of people to avoid.

[Kai keeps the notes about other people locked away somewhere else.]

[He can name a few off the top of his head.]

Marluxia.

He's on there. Who is he? I don't recognize the name.

He... Well, he isn't good. The time I met him, he was... forcing a kid that looked like a young version of you to do things he didn't want to. In a kitchen, where anyone could walk in, because he didn't care if he were caught.

[looks vaguely ill at the thought.]

That's disgusting... no wonder he's on the list.

[gives a short nod, his own face looking a little pale at the memories of pink hair fanning around his own face, the slow curve of a smile before everything started to hurt. it takes him a good moment to pull himself back to the here and now, not meeting your eyes.]

The others are probably more of the same. That one... I made sure he didn't finish what he started with the kid.

I'm sure the kid appreciated it a lot.

[smiles gently. you seem like a very nice person to him, Riku.]

I hope so.

[he's just. going to kneel down by your chair and take some time to sort himself out.]

[he'll quietly sort through some more of those papers for a bit, then glance down at Riku with a frown.]

Is there anything I can do for you? You've been really helpful, even if it's just because you think you have to be...

You're my owner, so of course I don't mind doing things for you. Even when you're not yourself right now... You're still nicer than my previous owners.

[makes a bit of a face at that.]

How'd I get to be your owner anyway?

I needed somewhere to stay, somewhere that wasn't mine or it would turn into my old room. You claimed a room and put some of your things in it, and when I went in, the room... gave me this. It changed the sign on the door, too.

[he's touching the charm dangling from his collar now, careful as if it might break]

Oh.

[rubs the back of his neck, looking away awkwardly.]

Did you, um. get mad at me for it?

I was... shocked. I don't remember much of what you said to me at first. I'd thought you had done it on purpose.

I don't think I'd ever do that... no matter what version of me is out there.

You didn't. It wasn't you at all, it was this place. Still, it's helped. I feel more... stable, than I have in a long time.

That's good. I can't even imagine it... but I'm glad it helps.

I'm sorry if you ever think I'm a burden. I try not to be.

I haven't come close to thinking it so far, and I doubt I think it normally.

[he sounds very sincere!]

[for that, Kai gets one of those rare, genuine little smiles out of Riku.]
