[ There's a perfectly ordinary hallway that branches off from one of the main, leading to a downward staircase. If one were to walk down, they would notice how the walls and stairs themselves are decaying, changing as the steps go down from the regular floors and ordinary wood to stone. It leads down, not too far, to a long series of underground tunnels. Mostly man-made, but with natural formations as well. The sound of water running can be heard to the left and loud, scraping footsteps to the right. Which direction would you take? ]

Nothing in particular. Just trying to figure out what kind of things live down here.

Batss? Perhapss ssome inssectss, and I wass rather hoping for ssome fissh to eat.

[he's been in caves before, but it wasn't a regular thing, and every time he was probably either hiding or single-mindedly searching for food for his tribe.]

Plenty of insects and bats. Dunno about fish, though.

[He looks curious himself now, eying the water below him with interest. Don't worry, he's not about to jump in or anything.]

I do not think it isss deep enough for anything of any ssize, no. I ssuppose I will jusst have to return to my and thaw ssomething to eat.

[he looks pretty sad about this. it takes time, and while he was never terribly happy about eating live or at least freshly dead prey, it IS a thoroughly different experience from waiting a few hours for a hunk of frozen meat to thaw out. he kind of misses the old way.]

You could try the ocean.

Why are you thawing things out?

My friend Nami told me the firsst day I wasss here that mosst people would not look kindly on my eating humanss, and that nothing like that would sstay in my belly anyway. He helped me work out a sssysstem for getting fressh meat, but it sstayss frozen outsside until I need it.

[hmm, he's never really gone to the ocean. he'd probably like it.]

Well, no, if you kill anyone then someone is gonna kill you back.

And I mean, it's super easy to get meat around here if you just go to the stores, but but there's wild animals that shouldn't vanish once they're dead. I know there's fish in the ocean. Huge ones. Big enough to swallow me whole.

I will ssstart hunting again when it iss not sso cold. I have never sseen a fissh that large, but I believe you. I have sseen many thingss here that I had not ssseen before.

Oh, good. I could've proved it if you hadn't. Kept the eyes preserved in a jar once I busted out of that thing.

[He did. Kira helped! Sort of. He hadn't thought about the cold, but it makes a hell of a lot of sense.]

Over in Radiant Garden. I had been consssidering moving ssomewhere around here to be clossser to the few people I know, but I think it would be too mucssh trouble, I am sso sssettled there...

Why would it be trouble? Do you have a lot of stuff to move?

[He's going to start climbing down the wall. Very, very carefully.]

Yess, I ssupposse I do. Mossstly I would not want to dissturb my bone pile and the beetlesss that live in it and clean them for me.

You have sssome exssperiencsse with them? That would be a great help to me, but would they sstay if they were moved elssewhere?

[what would be really cool would be if he could find a place just like his current den, but not in Radiant Garden. that would be awesome.]

If you let me take a couple at the start I'm sure I can breed you enough to keep numbers up if they do end up leaving.

[he's looking much more interested in the whole thing now, plus finding someone who not only knows about this stuff but is willing to help is fantastic.]

[gosh u. i'm sensing an impending timeskip, since his den is all the way over in Radiant Garden. but who knows, there's probably still plenty for them to talk about on the way. he's uncurling and turning back towards the stairs, in any case.]

[Once he's far enough down he'll jump to the ground, thankfully not fall into the water, and quickly move to follow. Timeskips are totally awesome things and should be used in instances like this, though they probably do have plenty to talk about.]

[well, we can say they talked about some stuff on the way, and then the other stuff can be talked about later or another time or whatever. so, timeskip to when they arrive at his den? he's doing the naga equivalent of hustling, because it's still cold and he does not do well with cold. at least there's a nice wave of warm air when he opens the door into the building.]

[That's fine, Aden walks fast. Long legs, you know. The cold doesn't really bother him, though, and the heat will come as a small surprise.]

Do you have heaters set up?

Yesss, Nami helped me with them. He helpss me with lotsss of thingss.

[inside, it's just one big square space, with blankets tacked up along the roof line all the way around to keep the cold out. there's a shallow pit in the back filled with blankets, and a pile of beanbags in one corner. there are three heaters running, all plugged into a generator that's whirring away. a string of blinking Christmas lights is hanging over the door. but the MOST interesting thing is the sizeable pile of bones against one wall, in varying states of clean-ness.]

[Excuse me as I make my way right over to the bone pile. Actually, he's looking around at everything with some pretty intense fascination. He loves snakes. They're practically kin to him ~~and food and toys and everything else~~, so naga are pretty equally amazing. If not more so, because he doesn't know completely how they work. Yet.]

[there's a crate full of in-progress things made from cleaned bones and leather, with some larger things next to the crate. if Aden goes close enough to Axel's nest, he might spot a somewhat scruffy-looking cat curled up among the blankets.]
