A Sora told me that there were people who survived eating hearts; I can make them, if anyone needs some?

[doesn't expect people to take him up on the offer, but wants to make it anyway]

[Roxas eyes the notes darkly. They're lying in the floor where he dropped them when he reached for Riku.]

Are you sure you want me to continue?

[He's pretty sure that he already knows the answer, but he wants to give Riku the opportunity to stop if he wants.]

[Nods slowly. He wouldn't expect anything less from Riku, so Roxas will do his best to read through the rest of the notes.]

All right.

[ooc: Any more note suggestions? Also, any hints on if this is Riku or Repliku? ^^]

*makes a very sad attempt at pouting* Yours is an evil laugh.

Let me sleep on it? I've got classes in the early morning tomorrow, and I think you're at least two hours ahead of me -- maybe even three hours.

Yeah, I figured that he probably wouldn't have much love for Larxene after a couple of shock sessions. XP

So ... do you have it established in your mind if he's Riku or Repliku? Or are you just waiting to see what the general consensus turns out to be? To be honest, I've been thinking of him as Riku, but I guess we'll eventually find out!

Yup, three hours difference. PST say hello to EST! (At least, I'm guessing that you're on EST.)

Thank you! ♥ You sleep well, too!

Yeah, um, please don't mind the fact that Vexen's notes kind of contradict themselves at times. I noticed that I had the first set of notes describing Riku as having a high pain tolerance, and now this second set seems to indicate that Vexen is complaining that Riku can't handle enough pain. Silly scientist, please to be making up your own mind, kthnx. XP

I'm not sure why Riku's pain produces better hearts though, unless it somehow overwhelms him to the point that all he can do is cling to a tiny glimmer of light deep inside of him -- and/or maybe he knows in his heart that he needs to survive for the sake of somebody or something, though he can't remember with his mind who or what, and it's his strength of heart and will that compels him to hang on. And this determination, coupled together with the light, gives rise to better hearts.

Or something to that effect. ^_^;

If Riku is a Replica, I don't know if the above hypothesis would still hold true or not, so I won't have the notes say anything more about it. But I figured that the whole 'more pain = better hearts' would give Vexen a good excuse to keep torturing 'improving' Riku.

And I couldn't resist tossing in a mention of the other Roxas. ^^ I don't know if Riku will sense something familiar about him at all, but I'm thinking that newbie!Roxas somehow gets a hold of one of Riku's hearts and tries to shove it into his own chest ... or Riku could try to shove it in Roxas' chest. Either way, Roxas has a very poor reaction to the heart, since it's not his own, but the experience is of some marginal interest for Vexen since none of the other Organization members have tried to use Riku's hearts like that before. They tried using them with Dusks and other lesser Nobodies in the past, but the results were not promising.

*flails helplessly* Or something like that. I dunno. Have any plotbunnies that you want to let loose, by any chance? ^^

Or it could be the length of time that Riku is in pain. He might be able to tolerate high intensity pain, but for how long? And/or he could have developed a tolerance for pain as everything progresses.

Ohhh! I didn't think about the fact that the heart wouldn't work for Roxas because Sora's still out there. That's a really good point! To be honest, I don't know about if the rest of the Organization still have their Heartless running around, or if their hearts are already part of Kingdom Hearts or what ... but Riku's hearts won't work for them one way or another, I guess? Either way, that's a double whammy for Roxas.

And, yes, I want to read your fic! *bounces around gleefully*

*sniffles and wibbles* Oh, Riku!

If you can write that good on just one hour of sleep ... wow. Just wow. ♥♥♥ *definitely wants more*

So that's what the acid is for! Ah-ha!

I think I might belatedly switch over and start having Vexen's notes identify Riku as 'Experiment 01' now....

I do, actually ... along with Yahoo! Messenger, Skype, and the Gmail chat thing. Do I use them at all? *shakes head sadly*

I'm kurisutaruquin on AIM. I should be on sometime this weekend when I'm not having to deal with this physiology paper that I'm writing. I have this little quirk, and I feel bad when I'm IMing with someone if I can't actually devote my attention to chatting with them because I'm working on something else.

I don't feel quite as bad about it when I'm doing stuff messageboard-style (like this) since it's not quite real-time dependent ... if that makes any sense?

But, yes, I do want -- very much so. ^^ Maybe later Friday or just about all day Saturday ... I should be on then.

"Number XIII apparently attempted to join one of Experiment 01's created hearts to himself with disastrous results. He is expected to recover in due time; but, thanks to his impulsive actions, I must now conclude that these hearts are of little or no use to Nobodies as replacements for our original hearts.

Aside from the gain of these paltry findings, I am not pleased by these latest events, especially since XIII apparently felt the need to conjure his weapons in full view of 01. I have spent countless hours ridding 01 of any and all memories and emotions that would lessen his usefulness to the Organization, and I will not have my research and work ruined by XIII's presence here.

Am strongly recommending that XIII be transferred away from Castle Oblivion as soon as possible.

Day 42.

Number XI's little pet is finally earning her keep and has altered XIII's memories of yesterday's events. Despite pressure from several of my peers to have her do the same to Experiment 01 as well, I declined to allow her to do so, seeing as the acid I injected into him last night has already done the job.

It is a pity that 01 will not remember the reason for his punishment this time, as understanding why punishment is administered serves as a deterrent to similar behavior in the future, but he must not be allowed to remember anything that happened between XIII and himself.

I will admit that I would have liked to see how XIII would have responded to the acid in turn, but the orders were to return him to The Castle That Never Was 'unharmed.' If I had a heart, I would feel gravely insulted by this apparent glaring lack of confidence in my work.

Day 49.

I have discovered that Experiment 01 positively responds not only to praise (no matter how slight) but also to pleasurable physical touch.

Interesting.

More research will be conducted on this in the near future."

[Despite his revulsion at these latest revelations, Roxas doggedly continues reading to the end of the final page.]

"Day 50.

Breakthrough.

There is a way to replicate not only a being -- but also its abilities.

And I have found it.

Imagine Experiments 02, 03, 04, and on and on. All with the same ability to create hearts.

Now I need not spare 01. Should he not survive, he is replaceable.

I must inform Superior of my success immediately."

[Roxas clutches at the papers, looking like he would very much like to tear them to pieces, but he reminds himself to try and stay calm. Getting upset and shouting had only seem to set Riku off last time ... and he has no idea how Riku will respond this time.

He looks over at him, deeply concerned and unsure of what to say.]

[ooc: Vexen lost his ability to write actual paragraphs those last two entries for some unknown reason. XP]

[ooc: *giggles* More like I was going, "I don't know what to write anymoooooore!" Thank you, though. ♥]

Riku....

[Roxas edges a little closer to him and lays his hand on top of one of Riku's fists.]

[identity profile] part-of-another.livejournal.com 2008-05-15 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
You're -- you're crying.

I'm -- sorry that you had to go through all of that, Riku. I'm sorry that part of it was because of me, too.

[The apology is sincere, but it sounds hollow even to Roxas. Being sorry doesn't change what happened in the past, and he knows this full well.]

[Roxas continues reading aloud.]

"Day 28.

Specimen R. flies into a blind rage whenever placed in close proximity to Numbers VII, XI, and XII. Must work to rectify this as the hearts created by the subject during these outbursts are useless as fodder for the Heartless as their purity has obviously been compromised by his negative emotions.

Still have not found concrete evidence for an adequate explanation of why the specimen is able to produce more hearts of the highest quality thus far while in extreme physical pain. I unfortunately cannot keep him in such a state for any reasonable length of time, given the limitations of his body.

He has proven to be surprisingly resilient, though, and future conditioning has the potential of enabling him to endure pain for longer durations than that which he can now tolerate.

Perhaps emotional pain will serve to stimulate the specimen's ability as well...."

[It would seem that some pages are missing, or the notes are out of order.]

"Day 41.

A most interesting incident has occurred: Specimen R. left the laboratory of his own volition and crossed paths with Number XIII--"

[startled look]

But I thought you didn't know the Roxas from your universe.
