Alright, how is this a costume? Seriously?

[Kai is looking just a teensy bit different this morning. he'd been on his way to do a bit of shopping, but now he's left sort of shifting awkwardly in place as he tries not to fall over. sure, he's been a pony before - both the regular sort and the oddly proportioned cartoon sort - but those times he was fully equine, not... a bunch of pieces stuck together while still being mostly human from the waist up. his hand moves to the single, off-center horn coming out of his forehead and he frowns briefly. this entire 'costume' is going to prove rather inconvenient.]

What are you supposed to be, Kai?

No idea. I'd say a centaur, except I'm pretty certain those aren't pieced together like I am right now.

And I'd be tempted to say chimera, but they're usually a rather different blend...

[She shakes her head.]

Yeah. Whatever I am, it's inconvenient, to say the least. I'm not sure I'll be able to get into my house properly.

That does seem like it'll be awkward. [Frown.] And clothes - are you cold at all?

Not really, no.

[he could probably use a shirt, but he's not about to get sick without one.]

Well, at least that's one positive thing.

I guess so, yeah. Considering there's a chance I might have to sleep outside or something.

[his tail swishes behind him. it's not like his horse end is that big, not really any bigger than a regular horse, but still.]

[Well, she can sympathise on that count, anyway, being as used to it as she is.]

Mm. I'd imagine you'll be able to find somewhere, at least.

[It's not like this is - she pushes a thought aside.]

I should be able to, even if it ends up being in a store or something.

[does Aqua need a hug or something. he can still do those, even if it'd be awkward.]

[She smiles faintly, seeming a little distracted -]

A furniture place might do. It'd maybe be comfortable. But just look at you...

[he laughs, shaking his head.]

Maybe it'd be easier to just sleep in the stables.

[She shakes her head.] No. Even if you are ... rather equine at the moment, you shouldn't have to lower yourself to that.

[he smiles gently at her comment.]

It wouldn't be lowering myself to anything. The stables are built specifically for horses and chocobos and all the rest, and if I can't find anything that would be warm and comfortable on such short notice, then that'd be the best place for me. To lower myself in the first place, I'd have to think myself above the animals that stay there. Why should I? They're such peaceful creatures, especially compared to humans.

I just - [She sighs.] I understand what you're saying. [Especially the 'so peaceful compared to humans' bit, she thinks.]

It's - just a personal dislike of mine, I suppose. And it's better than- [Stop, Aqua, stop. Kai doesn't need your personal drama, she tells herself.]

Better than?

[he sounds like he wouldn't mind hearing it, all the same.]

Better than being outside. [Headshake.] It's just me.

Right... I wouldn't mind having to sleep outside if it was still summer, but this time of year, it's getting a little too cold for that.

[She nods, and manages to get out-] I ... spent a long time... without a roof over my head. Not a proper one. It's just something I don't like - seeing anyone else forced to do.

I'm sorry.

[to hear that, he means. no one should have to spend time without a home.]

Mhm. Thank you. [And she sighs. At least that's out.]

I can't even... imagine it. You're very strong, to have gotten through that alright.

['Alright' is definitely relative. She smiles slightly, looks down-]

Thank you. But - I'm not strong. I just didn't have a choice.

Nonsense. You could have let yourself become lost. You could have killed yourself...

[that second sentence is quieter, because he hates the idea of suicide so much. well... 'hates'.]

But because you weren't ready to give up in some way, you felt you didn't have a choice. That's strength.

Maybe. It just didn't feel like it at the time.
