[a reclusive ~~chinchilla~~ Riku has appeared! his hair is getting quite long and has been pulled into a sloppy braid. he's dressed in a worn sweater and jeans with holes in the knees, a small box of children's books tucked against his side and a couple stuffed animals riding on top of it. he looks tired, but seems to be functioning pretty well! who knows why he's been so... not around though. he has been here, however.]

[watch out for snipers! who knows what kind of ears Chichi will get if he gets a purple one, too.]

[or maybe he'd just wind up completely chinchilla! but no, no snipers ~~yet~~. as soon as they're at the kitchen, he'll be doing his best to set everything up without having to put Riku down.]

[he'll wrap his arms around Chichi's neck and shoulders while he does that, pressing his forehead against Chichi's neck. he really appreciates the effort, even if he isn't saying anything.]

[well, it won't take too long for him to get a cup of milk and honey into the microwave to be heated. just enough to make sure everything's nice and warm, of course. wouldn't want to burn Riku's tongue.]

[scalding his throat is definitely not the intended effect. he isn't dripping or coughing yet, but he does have a headache coming on to signal more to come. his eyes are half-lidded, watching Chichi's movements.]

[well, once the milk and honey is ready, he's going to bring it to the table and blow on it a bit, sitting down with Riku still on him.]

Here, come on. This will help make your throat feel better.

[he doesn't resist at all, drinking it slowly so he doesn't spill it. it does help a little, coating his throat. he looks a little more relaxed when he finishes it, at least. he still feels thirsty afterward though, and willing to push for something more familiar than a big-kid's cup.]

... can I have a sippy cup?

[his expression softens and he nods, holding onto him again to carry him to get that.]

Of course you can, kiddo.

[he's probably considered too big for one of those by a lot of people, but it's something familiar to him, like his stuffed paopu and his blankie. they're comforting, something a little kid can need a lot of, especially living here.]

How long do I gotta be sick?

I don't know, kiddo. Being sick is weird sometimes. It could be a couple days, or it could be a week.

[but here, Riku, have yourself a sippy cup from your worried Daddy.]

[he is about as happy as he's going to get like this, since he doesn't even want junk food right now. he just wants to be held and try to be comfortable, but the latter isn't very forthcoming.]

My head hurts.

I'm sorry, Riku. We can get some kid's medicine for you, if you want. Or we can go take a nap.

You too?

[getting medicine now would make for a good plan, actually. especially when he starts coughing and getting snotty.]

Me too, just in case you need anything.

[yeahhh medicine, then nap sounds good.]

[you're getting a hug, which is also sort of him just draping himself against you again, sippy cup cradled against his chest. his little ears seem to have perked up a bit, but there's no telling how that tail is doing when it's stuffed in his pants the way it is. he doesn't seem to be complaining about it, either way.]

[well, there will be changing into different clothing when they get back, so his tail will be free, even if only briefly.]

[he won't even give Chichi a hard time, or he'll try not to. his tail is as limp as his ears have been when it's finally free, the fur on it incredibly soft. thankfully, there's no chance that handling it will have undesired reactions when he's so young.]

[good. he doesn't want to accidentally do anything bad. :/ he would feel so horrible. he's going to help Riku into some sleep clothes, then carry him to bed.]

[no, he isn't going to freak out over anything until he realizes his paopu is missing from where he left it. there's no way he'll be able to sleep without it.]

M-my paopu!

Shhh, shh, it's alright, Riku. I'll get it. I'm just going to get some medicine for you to take, and I'll get your paopu on the way back, alright?

[he smooths a hand over Riku's hair, pushing it back away from his forehead.]

'kay...

[his forehead is already feeling warmer than before, and he doesn't put up as much fuss as he normally would over something like this. he's worn out, but will fight sleep every step of the way without that plush. Chichi won't see it until he's coming back into the room, where it's bounced under the bed from when Riku bumped it earlier.]

[medicine and a cup of water in one hand, paopu getting picked up with the other. gotcha.]

[grabby hands will be reaching for that paopu as soon as he sees it. you know he isn't feeling well when he takes that medicine without so much as a bribe. it helps that kids' medicines generally taste better than those for adults.]

[once Riku is medicine'd and has his paopu and all, he sits back for a moment.]

Do you want to sleep now, or do you want a story?

I wanna sleep with you in your bed.

[because it is so much bigger, and would mean room for cuddles. he can always be carried back to his own bed later.]
