[a reclusive ~~chinchilla~~ Riku has appeared! his hair is getting quite long and has been pulled into a sloppy braid. he's dressed in a worn sweater and jeans with holes in the knees, a small box of children's books tucked against his side and a couple stuffed animals riding on top of it. he looks tired, but seems to be functioning pretty well! who knows why he's been so... not around though. he has been here, however.]

[his forehead is already feeling warmer than before, and he doesn't put up as much fuss as he normally would over something like this. he's worn out, but will fight sleep every step of the way without that plush. Chichi won't see it until he's coming back into the room, where it's bounced under the bed from when Riku bumped it earlier.]

[medicine and a cup of water in one hand, paopu getting picked up with the other. gotcha.]

[grabby hands will be reaching for that paopu as soon as he sees it. you know he isn't feeling well when he takes that medicine without so much as a bribe. it helps that kids' medicines generally taste better than those for adults.]

[once Riku is medicine'd and has his paopu and all, he sits back for a moment.]

Do you want to sleep now, or do you want a story?

I wanna sleep with you in your bed.

[because it is so much bigger, and would mean room for cuddles. he can always be carried back to his own bed later.]

[that doesn't surprise him too much and he untucks Riku, scooping him and his paopu up to carry him to the larger bed.]

[enjoy how quiet he is when you can, Chichi. it isn't until he's put in the bigger bed that he's rubbing his face with the back of his sleeve, his nose in particular. it's followed by what is unmistakably a sniffle.]

Do I still get a story?

Of course.

[good thing he keeps tissues nearby, huh? he's going to grab one and hold it to Riku's nose.]

Blow?

[he will, a couple of times even. isn't that a lovely shade of green in your hand?]

[ewwww. but no, he's probably used to this by now, huh? he's going to toss that into a little waste bin he keeps nearby, then.]

Story time now?

[Riku looks like he was about to go cross-eyed from blowing so hard, but he nods. actually he's a little dizzy, and will sink back down against the bed until he gets his breath back. his nose managed to stay clear for all of half a minute before he's breathing through his mouth again.]

[well, that was more or less expected. anyway, do you want to just insert a story here after Chichi gets settled in there with him?]

[sounds good /o/ he will worm his way up against Chichi's side so he can see the pages, his little ears flicking occasionally. he likes that he can hear Chichi's heart beating.]

[one of the best parts of better hearing, huh.]

[definitely. it's comforting to him, helping him to settle down. what would Chichi do if Riku were to recognize some of those words in the book?]

[probably be shocked into momentary silence, actually.]

[it gets his attention, and he looks a little worried.]

Daddy? Are you gonna be sick?

No, I'm alright.

[he takes a deep breath and smiles down at Riku. it's definitely a proper smile.]

Want to help me read it out?

[looks like that reading lesson is a go after all? Riku stumbles over a lot of things, mostly sounding out the words after Chichi has already said them.]

[inwardly he's pretty much bursting with happiness and pride, but mostly that just shows in a small smile as he reads, going slowly so Riku can follow along.]

[his voice is getting quieter and quieter, the medicine kicking in and making him drowsy. it won't be too long before he's just mumbling along with the sound of Chichi's voice.]

[eventually he will shut the book and set it aside, sinking into the bed and holding Riku close.]

Nap time now. We'll read more some other time.

[he'll get nothing but a mangled-sounding snore in response. his fever is still going, but the medicine is slowly making it easier for him to breathe again. he doesn't even kick in his sleep like he normally does.]

[Chichi's not quite ready for a nap, so Riku's going to stay propped up against him, not completely laying down so breathing is a little easier on him.]

[that is a big help, especially when he starts coughing an hour into the nap.]
