[Recent events have left a lot of flotsam cluttering the Destiny Islands beach over here, and the wind's blowing the waves into spray.

And sitting on a barrel over here, we have Xeha, gazing thoughtfully out over the waters. What's happened lately has been playing pretty heavily on his mind... These things come and go. But it's all shaken his confidence a little.

So, for the moment, the kid's taking it easy.]

Yeah. They're not giving it a good name. It could be something! But not when it's full of Heartless and destruction!

Yeah. I hope things do work out someday. ...and I hope they have nothing to do with it.

[He gives a grim nod.] You can't make things right by destroying them. So I hope they'll go right some other way.

[man, this is a sort of depressing topic, isn't it.]

[He looks down, trying to think of a way to change it along a more inspiring route.]

Hey, um... what d'you know about spells? Like, aside from the basic stuff?

[she figures he's a good person to ask, since he's so smart, and it changes the subject!]

Uh, not much specifically? I mean, I can cast a few, but apart from that...

Darn. See, um, the Xigbar I ran into, I'm pretty sure she cast something on me, because suddenly I could only move really slowly. And after that, she cast something on the Heartless that turned them to stone.

Mmm. Okay, those aren't spells I know offhand... I might have something somewhere about those kind of things, but that's it?

Nah, it's okay. I was just asking you since you know a lot more about... well, everything, probably, than I do.

[Well, shucks, Sora. He looks a bit embarrassed.] I just get curious about these things, what can I say?

It's okay! I wasn't making fun of you or anything. I know some people just like learning a lot. I sorta do too, but I get bored easy.

I didn't think you were. [Eheh.] I just - always want to find things out... Always have. As long as I can remember.

[As long as he's been who he is now, he doesn't say.]

Well, it's definitely part of what makes you you! I don't think you'd be the same person if you didn't like trying to find things out.

[He looks a bit awkward.] Guess part of it might be that I always wanted to - find out who I was, too? But yeah. I can't imagine not wanting it.

[headtilt. yeah, she knows he looks like the jerks who tried to destroy this place, and even shares a name, but...]

Eh. It's ... kinda complicated. I don't remember things before I was about ten years old?

[Where 'about' is hiding a lot.]

So I used to wonder who my real parents were, where I came from, all that. Things about my past. That kind of 'who I was'.

Oh... d'you still want to know?

[y'know, considering... everything.]

[He shrugs.]

I found out most of it a while back here. There's still things I'd really like to find out, but I think I have a better idea where to look.

I'm glad you found out, since you wanted to.

Yeah. Me too. It's something that's off my mind, at least.

[Even if it did set up a whole load of new worries in its own way.]

[she smiles and looks out at the shore, apparently content that the conversation changed.]

Huh. ... What was it like when you were growing up?

[All curious, now the subject's gone that way.]

Well... It was nice! It was a tropical island, so it was warm pretty much all year. We didn't really get snow or anything, but we still had Christmas and stuff. I had lots of friends, and we spent most of our time playing on the island that was just off the coast, when we didn't have school.

[He smiles.] That does sound nice. [Especially the friends bit, he thinks.]
