[ There is a Riku in this hallway. To be more exact, a Riku wandering in a hallway she does not live on, with her arms full of gifts. A jug of cold chocolate milk, to be exact, and a box. It's a normal, somewhat large, perfectly square box wrapped in shining red paper and tied with a black bow. Perfectly eerie. Her heart's beating a little faster than it should be, and it's making her annoyed. It's stupid! It's not like she's nervous, or has any reason to be.

She still takes five more minutes of pacing the hallway to gather her bearings, then she settles in front of a door several feet away from Red's and pulls out her phone to call him. Ring ring, birthday boy. ]

[She might be moving a little closer, waiting not so patiently for his reaction. Okay, maybe she's a little nervous, even if it's absurd. After all, his not-so-future older self helped her make it, and he said he'd like it, which is about as good as you can get. Red will unwrap the box and remove the lid to a decadent three-layer cake, frosted with pure chocolate icing. Riku waits until the cake is visible for a moment before speaking.]

... Blood chocolate, with chocolate-coated insects, and... and eye custard between the layers.

[Happy birthday, Red.]

It's a little over the top.

[Okay, you've done it, Riku, you've broken him. He actually looks shocked, staring at the cake, then looking at her, then staring at the cake some more.]

[Oh god. No, don't be broken before you can try your cake. She waits, then waves her hand in front of his face. Earth to Red.]

I-...

[He's truly at a loss for words here. Riku do you even realize how long it's been since he's had someone care enough to do something like this.]

[Maybe. She can assume some things, anyway, from what he's told her in the past. That's not why she did it at all, though. She looks... a little uncharacteristically worried.]

Well?

[Riku you know what, you are getting kissed. Rather fiercely. Because he's still at a loss for words and damn if this doesn't make him feel all warm and fuzzy.]

[Oh, well, okay, she can deal with that. It's a good reaction. She'll kiss him back, of course, and if it lasts more than a few seconds she'll also wrap her arms around his neck.]

[Eventually he'll pull away, just enough to mumble against her mouth.]

Where did you find this?

[She probably feels like she's trying not to laugh, or smile. One or the other.]

I made it. With some help.

[Hey what's that heavy, cold thing touching your back, Red?]

[He looks startled, by both her answer and the cold thing, which makes him shift and try to see what it is.]

[She brings it around to the side when he moves. Ta da. A great big jug of chocolate milk.]

This part wasn't my idea, but it should go good with the cake if you want to overdose on chocolate.

So you...

[He's almost having trouble wrapping his head around all this.]

You went to, what, one of our future selves? You did? And made me a cake.

A week ago. Would've defeated the purpose if I'd asked you for recipes. Good thing your future self was willing to help me.

[She pulls both her arms back around and sets the milk down beside the cake.]

That's... what I really went to do yesterday. Baking.

[Snort.]

Sorry for lying.

[His face is going to get stuck in astonishment. If he were a more emotional type, he might have shed a few tears. So many warm fuzzies!]

[She would have freaked out! As it is, all this speechlessness has her a little worried (for other reasons) and a little amused.]

Is that a good silence?

Yeah.

[His voice is almost a little hoarse there. He clears his throat a bit, running a hand through his hair and looking away with a slightly embarrassed smile.]

Yeah, it is.

[That is endearingly cute, and a little disturbing, since it's Red. She gives him another nudge.]

So do you want to try it?

[Shut up it's not cute at all. He nods, starting to move for the kitchen so he can get a knife. and maybe a fork. and a plate.]

I'm guessing you won't be having any.

[It is so cute. She makes a face even if he can't see it.]

I'll pass.

Not surprising. I've got some regular chocolate in the kitchen, if you want it.

[And even some dark chocolate!]

No offense, but I'm really over chocolate right now.

[All that baking yesterday has turned her off of it for the time being.]

[He snorts, coming back with what he'd gone to get.]

There's other stuff in there, if you get hungry or thirsty, in that case.

Thanks. I might get a drink in a minute.

[But first she wants to see if he likes his cake!!]

[He's getting there!!! Cutting himself a fair-sized piece, even, and getting some on a fork to try. Oh man does he look pleased at the taste.]

[She stuffs her hands in her pockets, trying not to look hopeful.]
