[ooc: Still up in the mountains, but I figured I had time to make a post and handle a few tags, wheeeee. 8D I'm not dead, I swear it!]

[sitting against the wall, holding his sitar and concentrating on a mess of papers out in front of him, a pencil behind his ear]

[plays out a quick melody on the sitar, reading off a sheet of paper - pauses, takes the pencil out and chews the eraser] Hmm...

[draws a few dots along the sheet music, crosses a few things out, itches at a bandage on his neck with his other hand] Mmm, no... 
[repeats this process, but this time playing through the entire song - at least what he has so far]

Ugh! [one loud strum, bangs his head back against the wall out of frustration] ... [stares at the ceiling for a while, keeping quiet and just listening to himself breathe, a white scar along his jawline can be seen clearly]

[picks up the sheet music] Trying to write out a song.

[blinks, taking it from him. He looks over it quickly and starts to sing it]

Oh. Well that's nice. [sitting indian style, holds his feet]
D'you think there's anything I need to improve? [points at a bar of music] Like, this part, do you think it goes on too long?

It should be a little longer. That'd be cool.

[looks up and smiles] Oh, hey.

[laughs] Yeah... [picks up the sheet and rubs the back of his head] Getting kinda frustrated, there's this one stanza I can't get right.

Here, tell me what you think - I'll start from the beginning.
Oh, wait. [picks up the pencil, alters a note or two towards the start and puts it back behind his ear and looks it over] Nn...

Okay. [pulls his sitar over and starts to play, it sounds somewhat contemperary but with twists obviously inspired by an indian raga]

[pauses] Lemme know if this goes on too long. [plays it out until the song ends] [leans on his elbow and rubs his temples, looking down at the music] I don't know if it goes on too long or if the little ting -ting, y'know, the ting-tingg thing - I dunno if that's too distracting.

[takes a seat next to Demyx and listens quietly to his playing. He doesn't know a lot about music, but it's clear Demyx spent a lot of time on this particular piece.]

I think it sounds fine like that - though that part at the end isn't the greatest.

[grins] Yeah... I need to work on it. I was kind of rushing it last night since I was tired and I can't think of anything today...

[closes eyes and thinks]

[opens them and plays out the last part of the song] This is what I had before. [plays something a bit different, but still going with the melody of the piece] And this is something kind of tweaked, d'you like that better?

[laughs] This is why I stick to improv...

Yeah, better.

[faint smile] Quit stressing. It's not like this is any different from improv; all you're doing differently is writing it down.

Yeah, but really better? Should I do something completely different...? [bites at one of his fingernails and looks over his writing once more]

[looks over at him, smiles back] Yeah, I guess you're right... [looks back at the paper] But it's still different, I mean... I dunno. I don't write down a lot of... stuff...

But you do like it, right? [scratches the side of his head]

Hm? Oh, writing a song. [holds up the sheet] It's just the melody... instrumental kinda thing. I don't think it's the kind of thing that'd need lyrics.
