[mmm, sleep. sleeping is one of Axel's favorite things to do. he's very good at it, despite everything that works against him for it, like the huge amounts of power flowing through him at all times, and the incessant noise from his bijuu.

. . . huh.

when there's a subtle shift in who's who – subtle because they're right next to each other, and asleep – the sudden silence in his body is enough to wake him up. it's more than a little disorienting, even in the dark, because he can feel a body in bed next to him on his left, rather than on his right, which is where he remembers it being when he fell asleep. but more than that, he feels pretty good, a steady glow of warmth and peacefulness centered somewhere in his chest, and a complete lack of the usual background feelings he has, specifically those of the negative inclination. this is still worrying, though, more and more with every tiny, mostly good thing he notices about how he feels. it'll be the complete opposite for Kai, which is why he's sitting up after a lengthy moment to check on him.]

[maybe the quiet is getting to him? once Kai's finished what's on his plate, he'll lean back a bit, sighing.]

[well if he's finished, his lap will shortly be cleared of dirty dishes and bed tray both. if he wants any from Axel's plate, he'll have to fight Apricot for it.]

I dunno. Since Hachibi's not causing any trouble, I guess I could try and explain anything you needed me to, or we could go do something. I don't think I'll be getting back to sleep anytime soon.

[rubs his cheek against Kai's back. the lack of any major identifying smells like he's used to is so disorienting. x_x]

I... don't know if I can actually think of things for you to explain right now. We should find something to do. All three of us, if Riku wants to come along?

[he looks tempted, then the spark of interest grows muted as he shakes his head. Kai might be able to pick up on the faint scent of fear coming from him, now that his senses are so strong. going out to the nearest kitchen is one thing, but more than that invites running into other people, even at night. he's still unwilling to chance running into any kind of Larxene, but especially the male one.]

I.. don't mind staying here.

It's alright, Riku, we don't have to go far, and no one would mess with you with me and Kai with you. But you can stay here if you want to.

[moving around sounds like a good idea, whether Riku's with them or not, and he's already extracting himself from behind Kai to slip off the bed and get to his feet so he can adjust to the different height without falling over. he... almost wants to go sit in some water, too, just because he can right now.]

What Axel said. If you really don't want to go, that's fine, but we won't let anything happen to you if you do come with us.

[oh yeah, he should probably do that standing thing too, huh.]

[his heart is pounding harder as he really thinks about it, and his palms are already growing damp enough to make him hold the plate tighter to keep from dropping it on accident. he knows he shouldn't have anything to fear. he knows it. especially with them. he also knows he'd be holding them back if he went with them. he'd be constantly on edge like he is now, afraid to touch anything on the chance it would suddenly come alive with enough voltage to bring him to his knees.]

[that Riku knows it is a big step, and enough to make Axel happy. Riku's getting a steady hand on his shoulder, as an unconscious gesture of "I acknowledge that I am one of your dominant owner-type-people and that you need reassurance of your safety right now; I will totally fuck up anyone who lays a hand on you in a bad way", and then a gentle kiss on the cheek, because panicked Rikus make Axel a sad panda. :( ]

It's okay, you know we would never force you to do anything you didn't want to do. We won't be gone for too long, alright?

Yeah, we'll be back soon.

[and as he says this he's removing Axel's- his- hand from Riku's shoulder with a pointed look to Axel for forgetting about that, turning a moment after to smile reassuringly at Riku.]

Want us to bring you anything whenever we head back?

[Riku's knees were just starting to buckle from the touch, his eyes wide as he tries to adjust to the mixed signals. He manages to straighten again without actually dropping to the floor, his hand reaching for his collar in a subconscious reach for stability. If anything, Axel managed to startle Riku out of his fear of leaving the room. Even if it means he's defaulting to a more automatic response.]

I'm sure I'll like anything you might choose, Master.

[oops, is a sad panda now anyway because he fucked up and forgot about that. ;o; look, he's physically drooping as he trudges to the door. actually Apricot's getting picked up and snuggled before he leaves the room, along with some murmured instructions to keep Riku company and make him feel safe.]

Right.

[he'll wrap an arm around Axel once he's done speaking to Apricot, leaning down to murmur a question to him about if he wants to help make Riku a special cookie or something.]

[He will be glad to have Apricot for company once he stops feeling so bewildered. As late as it is, it's very likely he'll have tried to go back to sleep before they get back.]

[nods forlornly; he could use cookies right now too. :( maybe some hot chocolate for everyone, too. mostly he feels kind of short and and confused and foggy and unreasonably bummed out about it all.]

Cheer up, Axel.

[not that he sounds particularly cheerful, but he at least smiles as he says it.]

We'll find something to distract us. You'll feel better soon.

I'm sorry, I'm sorry you have to deal with all of my shit, and I already feel awful about it, and I wish I could swap us back right now, because I'm only a little better off than you, and you know I hate it when you're unhappy...

[there's some mumbling that's probably just more of the same, and despite Kai's pure heart not being capable of stuff like genuine anger and hatred and stuff, it's still making Axel remarkably emotional, like everything's clearer somehow. yes, he might even be crying, it's so hard to tell with his face pressed so hard against his own? that shoulder.]

Shhh, Axel, it'll be okay. I'll deal with it. We'll make it through this just fine. I wasn't complaining about where I'm stuck when I said that...

[he will pet his hair, hugging him close and sighing softly.]

[sniffles and hiccups a little, trying to force all that emotion back where it belongs, still hugging Kai tightly.]

I feel like I have socks shoved in my nose. I dunno if Hachibi's paying attention right now, but if he's not, tell him I actually miss his stupid fuzzy ass. It's so quiet in my head without him.

I will. I'm sorry it's so quiet. We can try and find Nami, if you want, so you at least have someone to talk to in there?

[shakes his head and pulls away a little, looking up at him.]

No, I don't want to do that to him. I'll manage. We both will.

[smooches him, ignoring how weird it is.]

[he smooches back even though aaaa that's so weird, and hugs him again.]

Yeah, we will. Come on, let's go find something to do.
