[mmm, sleep. sleeping is one of Axel's favorite things to do. he's very good at it, despite everything that works against him for it, like the huge amounts of power flowing through him at all times, and the incessant noise from his bijuu.

. . . huh.

when there's a subtle shift in who's who – subtle because they're right next to each other, and asleep – the sudden silence in his body is enough to wake him up. it's more than a little disorienting, even in the dark, because he can feel a body in bed next to him on his left, rather than on his right, which is where he remembers it being when he fell asleep. but more than that, he feels pretty good, a steady glow of warmth and peacefulness centered somewhere in his chest, and a complete lack of the usual background feelings he has, specifically those of the negative inclination. this is still worrying, though, more and more with every tiny, mostly good thing he notices about how he feels. it'll be the complete opposite for Kai, which is why he's sitting up after a lengthy moment to check on him.]

[whoops, you just caught Riku with an armful of goodies. namely, small bottles of a certain lube to be stowed away in the bedside drawer. he wasn't expecting anyone to wake up, but he'll keep his voice low.]

Master Kai? Is everything alright?

[hopefully Axel isn't too close when Kai jerks upright, waking up quite abruptly. he looks panicked, and certainly not very aware of what's going on around him just yet.]

[aaaaa. he's however close they were when they fell asleep, which was probably quite close. why, does that mean he got smacked with a flailing limb? anyway, he reaches automatically to steady Kai and give him some kind of ground to reality, and stretches with his other hand to turn on a light.]

Um. Not really, but I don't think it's life-threatening, at least.

[he is unaware that there has been any kind of change between them, though he is startled by what appears to be Axel waking up like that.]

Axel...? Were you sharing dreams or something?

[that is not his voice. oh god what's going on. he is possibly starting to panic.]

[if that's all he's panicking about, then he's off to a good start. Axel's going to get that light turned on and then reach for Kai's hand, staring wide-eyed at... well, himself. it's different from looking into a mirror, and the first thing that comes to mind (rather stupidly, for the situation), is how badly he (his body, rather) needs a haircut.]

I'm pretty sure we've been hit with a spell. Either that or we've finally taken joined at the hip to the next level.

[he is going to be setting down the lube in a hurry, staring at the two in the bed. he still thinks he's talking to the right Kai, not knowing he's looking at Axel.]

Is he hurt?

[no, now that he's waking up, that is definitely not all he's panicking about. there's an odd little squeak out of him as he stares at Axel, not even noticing Riku there.]

Axel?

[to Riku, a little grimly:]

Not yet, and hopefully it'll stay that way. We've swapped bodies.

[shifts around so he can properly face Kai and take both his hands, gripping them tightly and studying his face and eyes, wishing so hard that he had a way to know what was going on in there, and a way to talk to Hachibi.]

It's me, babe, don't worry.

[to say that he's stunned would be an understatement. his shock quickly turns to worry, what he thought was Axel's reactions making much more sense now.]

[he calms... fairly quickly, now that he's awake and grounded, and thanks to the fact that Hachibi's not awake just yet.]

Not what I was expecting to wake up to...

[smiles a little, though it's strained, and he's still very worried.]

You definitely got the bad deal here, sorry. I'm guessing Hachibi's still asleep, or you'd be freaking out a lot more.

Hachibi isn't... much like Nami, is he.

[for having someone share your head space, that is. he would personally take Nami over Hachibi any day.]

[he's going to shake his head furiously in response. they're total opposites.]

Nami's still got his own body right now anyway. It's so quiet in here.

[releases one of Kai's hands to tap his own head, and then brushes some hair out of Kai's face.]

Can I explain anything to make it a little easier? I'm so used to tuning most of it out, but you'll have to try and learn how, or at least how to cope with it.

[he's going to drift to kneel at the foot of the bed, wanting to give some space so Kai doesn't feel as crowded as his head probably feels right now. he doesn't even know how to begin offering help here.]

[he smiles weakly, rather shaken by this turn of events. mostly he's not looking forward to Hachibi finding out about this.]

[Hachibi will be nicer than expected, but it'll still be a lot to handle. Axel's going to bite his lip for a moment while he tries to think of what Kai could do.]

Okay, um. Try closing your eyes, and breathing through your mouth. Steady breaths, like when you're meditating. That should cut down on some of the sensory overload. And don't worry about Hachibi, he should be asleep for a while longer. Just focus on breathing and getting a sense of what the chakra feels like compared to what you're used to.

[he'll quietly slip from the bed while Kai is doing that, since it seems Axel has things under control for now. while they're distracted, he's going to make a short run to the kitchen.]

[he will feel sort of bad for more or less ignoring Riku later, but it's sadly necessary at the moment. he slowly closes his eyes, letting out a shaky breath before trying to fall into something like his normal meditations.]

[Riku will get all the hugs and affection later from both of them. but yes, right now Kai is the main issue, and while he's doing that, Axel's going to sit quietly next to him and do a little meditating of his own, if he can, to try and familiarize himself with this whole Light business.

Kai's probably feeling a bit split, or possibly doubled. there's the chakra to focus on, and then Hachibi's significantly more powerful chakra running directly alongside it. since the bijuu is asleep (for now), there probably won't be much of a sense of his presence.]

[it's hard, focusing at all when there's so much more there and it's all so different from what he's used to. he's scared, too, that he'll do something wrong that could hurt Axel's body, or upset Hachibi, or something.]

[okay, meditating was the wrong word for what he's doing. he's worrying too much for that. which is why he opens his eyes again after just a couple of minutes, and shifts back around to press close to Kai's side, leaning against his shoulder.]

Relax, you'll be fine. At least we're not both girls or something on top of being bodyswapped, right?

Guess I should be thankful for that, at least.

[he'll adjust... it'll just be very slow going. he really hopes he doesn't fuck anything up.]

[stop that, you are worrying excessively and it is probably not helping.]

It'll be okay. I won't let anything bad happen.

[he says, as Hachibi starts waking up because wtf why is Axel awake at this hour and feeling so panicked. welcome, Kai, to that feeling of something large looming behind you, and of perhaps more white noise than there already was, and a sense of (not actually hearing, just feeling like you've heard) a bone-shaking voice like boulders sliding against each other.
