a valuable lesson

[those who wander into the kitchen this morning will probably witness something spectacular: Sora is climbing the shelves in the pantry to get to the taffy, which has been conveniently placed high above his normal reach-- pfff, like there's anything actually out of the reach of monkeys! unfortunately, he'll be learning the hard way why he's not allowed to climb in the pantry: the shelf he's hoisting himself up on suddenly splits under his weight, sending kid and a myriad of soup cans crashing back down to the floor.]

[ Kairi comes in here simply to get a bottle of water, but after taking notice of the tiny Sora climbing the pantry shelves, she changes course. Her Sora has always been a monkey too, but she has seen him fall enough times to know better than perhaps even he does that he isn't invincible! On her way over, she opens her mouth to try to warn him that what he's doing is dangerous, but suddenly he's falling amongst a horde of tin cans. ]

Sora!

[ And she'll be diving for the kid to try to break his fall. If she's too late, she'll at least be trying to shield his body with hers to protect him from the soup can avalanche. ]

[Sora certainly is convinced he's invincible, but he looks anything but right now, curled up on the floor as cans rain down on the both of him. he's too shocked to have much of a reaction at all.]

[ A can of tomato soup hits Kairi in one of the shoulder blades that she's forced to stick out due to holding herself up with her hands. Another can, on the other hand, makes it all the way to the floor without hitting any obstacles only to break open and splatter cream of mushroom soup. With a wince, she scrunches her eyes shut and tries to hold still to ride out the rest of the collapsing cans, but the cream and mushroom surrounding her knee makes Kairi slip slightly, and she might just be squishing ickle Sora for a moment before she tries to pick herself up again.

Kairi opens her eyes to seek out 'bug to make sure he's alright, thinking the can storm has come to a close by now. That's when the can of chicken noodle soup strikes her in the back of her head, and her eyes promptly fill with tears. Next time she comes into the kitchen, she'll remember a helmet.

Her head's throbbing, so she doesn't say anything for a moment as she peers up toward the ceiling of the pantry to make sure nothing else is going to be brought down before hesitantly sitting back upright, rubbing the back of her head. She's looking Sora up and down worriedly. ]

Are you hurt?

[his nose is bleeding pretty steadily, so he brings his hands up to his face, shock dissipating into terror and hurt, and confusion. he's otherwise unhurt save for the throbbing in his back when he landed; his pride is wounded more than his body is. Sora lets out a whimper, but he's genuinely trying his hardest not to cry.]

[ That whimper is enough to break a heart! Kairi frowns sympathetically, peering around the pantry for some sort of cloth to soak up the blood but coming up empty-handed. ]

Just a second, I'll be right back!

[ She stands up, careful not to slip on the spilled soup as she makes a quick dash for one of the kitchen towels. She brings it back to the pantry, sitting on her knees and using the cloth as lightly as she can manage in an attempt to not hurt his nose further. She sure wishes she knew magic right about now. ]

There you go... You're so brave.

[Aaaaaaand an Older Sora is suddenly there to cushion the kid's fall, and of course to protect him from a rain of cans.]

Whoa there, little me, gotta be more careful!

[Sora is saved! he just stares up at his older counterpart, eyes the size of dinner plates. there is soup from a nearby can that exploded on impact all in his hair now, whoops.]

[He just chuckles a bit, before grabbing a nearby towel and wiping the little him hair. A while ago, he might think he is getting crazy, but living in the DR does wonder in contemplating whether this is surreal or not.]

[... nods a little. not gonna cry, not gonna cry-- he is big and brave and big brave kids do not cry.]

But that's not a good sign!]

[Yep. He's gonna try and help the kiddo, too.]

[watch out for renegade soup cans! the shelf brought down several from lower shelves as well, adding to the Sora + soup pile.]

[Oh, he really doesn't care. If he can handle being thrashed by huge Heartless, he can handle some cans. Right now he's focusing on grabbing the kid and making sure he doesn't get hit!]

[he sort of flails when he's grabbed, but immediately curls right back up, starting to wail in pain.]

*his Sorabug radar is very strong, okay? he's running into the kitchen, after trying to figure out where you went when he hears that crash, and actually sees you falling -- he's dashing forwards, totally worried now*

[it is a soup can mountain! luckily there seems to be some movement under there, so at least he didn't hit his head on the way down. don't slip on spilled soup from a few exploded cans, though.]

*he's panicking, thinking you might have hit your head on a can or something, and fishes you out, holding you in his arms and inspecting you*

Sorabug?! Sorabug, are you okay? Can you hear me alright?

[he's still way too shocked to really have an immediate reaction; still curled up in the fetal position like he's trying to stop the soup cans from hitting him. he's covered in an assortment of soups, and his forehead and nose are bleeding a little, but he's otherwise unharmed. he'll have a wicked backache later, though.]

[Ever quick to move, Roxas grabs Sora lightning-fast, covering him with his own body as the cans rain down. ... his back is going to be sore, sure, but children are his weak spot. After the cans stop exploding their contents all over, and the canrain has finished, he rolls off of him, sighing in relief. At least the kid wasn't hurt. Probably messy with soup, but not hurt.]

[he slowly uncurls, eyes still wide with shock and terror-- even though he realizes he's unhurt and just covered in a wide array of soups, he starts whimpering, completely overwhelmed.]

[He wraps his arms around him, picking him up, licking his forehead at first--mm soup--before he shakes himself out of it.]

Are you alright?

[he's unharmed, but he can't help it when he just bursts into tears, mashing his hands against his face and smearing more soup everywhere.]

[Roxas walks in just in time to see the shelf cracking, so he will be jolting into the kitchen to try and catch Sorabug now.]

[now there's two of them directly underneath the soup can barrage-- Sora clings to Roxas with one arm and instinctively trying to shield his head with the other.]

[Once he has Sora in his arms, Roxas turns out of the way of the falling soup and hunches over to protect him as best he can.]

[it's a soup massacre! cans are exploding left and right, raining down soup guts on the both of them- Sora just clings to Roxas for dear life.]
