(no subject)

[ Riku's in a different kitchen than usual tonight -- one that doesn't get as much traffic as the main one -- standing at the counter and leaning over a cookbook. She seems rather out of her element. Her hair's tied back in a ponytail and she's wearing an apron, for one thing. Said apron is also splattered with cake batter, and one side of her face is smudged with it. Whatever the batter was made for is nowhere in sight, having been thrown into the garbage; a fitting end for such a disaster.

There is, however, a number of bowls soaking in the sink, and a mixer that's waiting to be cleaned.

... Maybe she should just find someone to help. ]

[Stops for a moment, turning to look at her.]

It's Kai's birthday? When?

[looks at him, then pushes away from the counter to head toward the sink.]

[Sighs and goes back to looking through the book, before stopping at one and shows it to her.]

[wiping the mix off her hands, but she glances over.]

[Starts collecting the ingredients.]

The teenaged one, I guess he'll be turning seventeen?

[she'll fetch clean bowls?]

Not exactly. It's not technically his birthday.

[Grabs the measuring cups. and they're going to need that mixer.]

It would be, but his timeline's messed up. His birthday's technically a few months later now.

[she doesn't know the exact date, and she's not going to explain anymore. ...does she have to clean the mixer?]

Oh, okay.

[If she wants? :> he'll just be over here measuring the ingredients and throwing them all together in a bowl.]

I'm going to ask him what he wants to do about that, but there's a smaller Kai who's definitely getting a cake.

[might as well. man does she feel silly doing all this cooking and cleaning.]

[He doesn't exactly go around bragging about how he knows how to bake, either.

Just grabs a wooden spoon and loosely mixes some of the ingredients together before add the wet ones in. Is the mixer clean?]

I'm assuming that's the one that's getting this cake?

[nods softly. and yes, it's clean by the time he's ready to use it.]

He'll be seven.

[Oh good. Brings the bowl over to the mixer and sets it to a low speed, before gradually turning it higher, letting it mix thoroughly.]

Do you want to write his name and all that on the cake? I'm sure there's icing around here somewhere.

Alright, well if you want to just grab whatever pan you want to bake this in and preheat the oven, I'll finish mixing?

[nods and silently moves away to grab one.]

[Pulls the beaters out of the bowl and get as much batter off as he can, then grabs a rubber spatula. Double checking the recipe for cooking time.]

[meanwhile, Riku has successfully located the pan.]

[Oh good, he'll just be dumping the batter in with this spatula then. Gotta make sure it's all in there.]

[this is possibly one of the weirdest things she's ever done in this place, for the record.]

[Which? Baking a cake? Or backing a cake with a Roxas?

He just smooths out the batter with the spatula before sticking it in the oven and setting the timer for 30 min.]

The recipe says 35 to 40 minutes to bake, so it's best to check it a little early to make sure it doesn't burn.

[Yes, well he's not exactly used to this being civil with female Riku thing either, but different worlds, different people, right?]

You sure you aren't going to burn the kitchen down?

[Slight smile, no smirk!]

[something like that. but Riku's also incredibly biased, so. oh and she shoots him a look for that, but it's not too bad of one since he hasn't made any attempts on her life or anything.]
