[TIME FOR AN ENTIRELY TOO LONG MULTI-CHARACTER POST.

seasides is in the kitchen... what a boring guy. with things set up kind of how they used to be, and people once again relying on the kitchens, he's made his way to the main one to cook up some stuff to stash away in the fridge and freezer for others!

fading is not amused. he's trapped in a cage in a section of hallway made of white sand and marble. the cage isn't very big, which has him stuck sitting, and looking rather grumpy. there's no visible lock on it.

skybright is currently pushing herself in a training room, magic drained and looking half ready to collapse where she stands. there's a first aid kit sitting on a bench nearby, several bottles (elixirs, mostly) sitting empty next to it.

ghastlydawn hasn't been seen much, but she has been around. super disappointed with the change in the DR still - she grew up in the open world version, after all - she's been exploring to keep herself from lingering on her thoughts and getting even more homesick than she already is.

before is... pinned to a wall with several familiar knives. he doesn't look more than a little beat up, and mostly amused! he's got no idea why a Larxene attacked him, only to do barely anything aside from pin him there, but he can't move his hand enough to pull any of the knives out, and he doesn't want to rip his jacket. oh well.

islandflower is sitting in an outdoor room, a simple-looking field with several slightly battered targets some distance away, taking a break from practicing magic. the door is open and she's well in sight, but she's rather distracted reading.

fromshadow has found something that looks like it's fresh out of Halloween Town. it's a gloomy, mist-covered room, the door opening to a large clearing amidst spindly frost-coated trees. the clearing is filled with row upon row of gravestones, but each and every one of them marks an empty grave, the spaces all cleanly dug out but not even holding a coffin. he's standing just inside the doorway, too wary to actually go and check it all out.

conflagrate, who I totally didn't forget about, is in one of the closets. this particular one seems to hold clothing for both male and female, and she's just sort of absently browsing the men's button-down shirts at the moment. for some reason, all her clothing has gone and vanished from her room-house-thing, so she's rebuilding her wardrobe.]

I suppose I should say thank you for helping my younger self a while back, since I know he wouldn't have.

Oh. Well, you're welcome, in that case. Helping people is a bad habit of mine.

Hmm, now that is an awful nasty bad habit. A difficult to break one, too.

[Now that his make believe curiosity in what Kai is doing is satisfied he'll move to dig through the fridge for whatever interests him. Not that this stops him from continuing talking.]

I just wouldn't exactly wish dealing with him on anyone.

[now he's just being polite. 'interesting' probably isn't the best word for that Even.]

Honestly I'm amazed he didn't wet himself just from seeing all that wide open space.

Why was he that bad?

At that age he's probably never been outside or seen a living thing that wasn't hired help or blood relation.

And seeing many of those isn't exactly common since blood relations only make cameo appearances and you're not supposed to 'fraternise' [He'll put a hand out from behind the fridge door to properly mime those air quotes] with the help.

...what a horrible way to raise someone. Er, no offense.

None taken. I have no affection for my parents for a reason.

[So a carton of custard totally constitutes as a meal right? Cause Even is just going to drink this once he closes the fridge.]

[Even is a grown man; Kai's not about to tell him what he can or can't have for a meal!]

[Not that that makes drinking straight from the carton less gross.]
It could always be worse though.

[this is true. when Even leaves, Kai might dump that carton.]

If they hadn't had the obscene amount of money to hire staff but did the same thing.
Perhaps forgotten they had a child, leaving the child to be raised by a family pet or devoured by rats.
Or pretty much anything that could be turned into a university case study for psychology and medical students.

[See, he could mention something about his parenting but honestly, going 'hi, I was an abusive parent' is bit... well, not a great idea to say the least.]

[there would be no words for Kai's horror if he had.]

Working in a hospital can really emphasise just how much.

You worked in a hospital?

About seventeen or eighteen years ago.

Long hours. Often tedious, repetitive, or depressing towards the end of my career.

But before that it was fascinating. Every patient was a new puzzle, some easy, some impossible and most in between. Helping people was... pleasant.

[seasides]

[he nods, not really understanding the idea of it being a place for puzzles, but as long as Even was enjoying himself it doesn't much matter.]

What got you into it?

At first it was one of a number of things suggested by a career advisor at university.

Then it turned out the idea caused my parents deep, personal offence which basically made the decision.

[seasides]

[he lets out a bit of a laugh at the end of that, unable to help it.]

I guess given the situation with them, that's something to be happy about...
