Snow!

[It's been December for about a week, and the DR's decided it's residents are overdue for some proper winter weather. It's gotten really cold really fast--cold enough for water to freeze, for frost to settle on the grassy parts of the hallway floors. Icicles hang from house roofs and doorways.

And of course, there's snow. Depending on the hallway, there's several inches to several feet of snow piled on the ground, blocking doorways and impeding traffic through the halls. A small frozen puddle has conveniently appeared in the middle of the center area, perfect for skating practice if you don't mind the location.

Hope you don't mind the cold weather, because these things are planning on sticking around for a while.

(OoC: This is actually an open post for people to do whatever in. Go, mingle! Throw snowballs, be annoyed that your house is now buried in a 7-foot-tall snowdrift, curse winter, whatever.)]

[You know what sounds therapeutic? Throwing snowballs at random passerby.

[What makes a better target than a Sora, right? He seems pretty happy with the sudden snow.]

[Well. Normally she tries to to easy on the Soras she doesn't know, but... Nah. She aims for his back.]

[He goes down with a yelp, arms flailing as soon as he starts to lose his balance. Sora's scrambling up again pretty quickly though, and dusting himself off. He looks around a little for where that came from, but then he seems more distracted with a snowman he's spotted.]

[Perfect! She gives him a few seconds of distraction and then-- lobs another one at him.]

[The same thing happens as before! Sora moves to turn in the direction the snowball came from, only to flail and yelp as he loses his balance and goes down again. He looks around as he gets up and dusts himself off, then his eyebrows shoot up when he spots the snowman again.]

[She stops for now, waiting to see what he's going to do. What's with the snowman and his fixation on it?]

[It looks neat! He doesn't normally get to encounter snow. Seeing the snowman makes him want to make one of his own. Sora's going to do just that, as if he wasn't just hit with two snowballs out of the blue.]

[And this is the guy most often put in the role of world-saver. She's not throwing any more, yet, and lies down along the beam she's sitting on to watch him.]

[She'll get to watch as he gathers up a base, starting to form it into a large ball, before his hands slow to a stop. He looks confused, and mutters softly to himself while dusting off his hands before he spots the snowman again. There's a noise of surprise from him, then Sora's going back to rounding out the snow with much more enthusiasm.]

[...what's going on down there. She kind of wants to ask, but she's more curious about watching him to see what he does next.]

[If she listens hard enough, she'll hear he's muttering again: build a snowman, build a snowman, over and over again. His voice stutters to a stop after roughly a minute, and Sora's hands pause as well. He stays like that, staring perplexed at the big ball of snow in front of him for a long moment, before he catches sight of the other one with a startled Oh!]

[Shiru here is one of those who has a buried house. And has been elected to clear the 4-foot wall of snow from around the front door...by default, since Riku is elsewhere. He's not very happy, but at least he has fire to help out.]

[giveyoumy]

[He won't have to do it alone! Maybe. Sora's currently bundled up in two of everything, down to his socks. If he could have worn two pairs of shoes, he might have tried. He still shouts when he opens the door.]

Cold!

[And scares the hell out of Shiru in the process, enough to make him drop the shovel.]

Sora! Ugh. Of course it's cold, snow's supposed to be.

It's too cold! Where did this all come from so quick?

[Is he even able to get very far out the door?]

[Shiru's made a good-sized dent in the larger part of the snowdrift, enough for two or three people to stand by the front door with some space to spare. The drift tapers to about a foot on the other side of the hallway. Sora might have to climb on top of the snow if he wants to go anywhere.]

Dunno. But I've been thinking about a fire in the living room.

[Which is bad considering they don't have a fireplace.]

... Why don't you just make fire by the snow?

[Sora doesn't like it when someone performs magic he doesn't understand around him, but if it's for a good reason...]

I have been. It won't make the house any warmer, though.

[Wonder what he would think of Shiru's colored fire...it's not magic, but to Sora it may as well be.]

[It would definitely count as magic in Sora's book. If he knew it were different colors he'd never have suggested fire in the first place.]

Fires in houses are bad. Especially if you don't have somewhere it's supposed to go.

[Technically, he's running out of the chemicals for the niftier colored fires, like green and white, so he probably wouldn't do it anyway. Or would, just to see what Sora thought.]

And that's why we need to build a fireplace sometime. The living room is big enough.

[He goes back to attacking the snow in front of him, scooping out a small portion with the shovel and tossing it to the side.]

Do you know how to build one?

[He's so helpful, what with his standing around and trying to find pockets to shove his hands into.]

No, but it doesn't look that hard. You build the fireplace part, and then the chimney.

[So uh, several feet of snowfall? It is not good for underground structures, especially new extension on them that were only just getting proper support structure built.

Why does this matter?

A portion of a hallway floor has collapsed and about a hundred copper/brass beetles and spiders came pouring out of the hole. With more artificial insectoids and arachnids creeping in and out all the time]
