[ There's a Kairi standing in the kitchen doorway, pretty ordinary and easily overlooked. She's wearing a white raincoat and matching boots, but seems dry otherwise. There's a small black kitten in her arms, a little waterlogged but otherwise in perfect health, and they're both watching people walk by with casual interest. Eventually, Kairi will pick someone out. ]

[Kitten ping. Actually, the Kairi got Riku's attention first, then he noticed the cat in her arms.]

If I didn't have one already, I'd say yes.

[Kittens have that effect! But so do Kairis.]

Aw. How old?

[He likes cats. And Kairis. In different ways, though.]

About a year. Older than this one.

[He reaches out tentatively towards the kitten. Does it like ear scritches?]

[It would be okay if he liked them in similar ways! Unless he's doing something weird with cats. The kitten seems content enough to accept ear scritches!]

Cute. Cat person, then?

[Yay, he won't get clawed right away then.]

Yeah. You aren't?

I like cats. I'm not really one for pets though. I'm hoping to find this little guy a good home.

[Little guy lifts his head to get more into pettings, too.]

I don't think I'd be one of those good homes.

[This kitty and the other one might get along. He moves his hand to scritch under the kitten's chin]

Any reason why?

[She doesn't sound accusing, she's just curious. Kitten is enjoying this attention.]

Various reasons. I'm gonna go find something to dry him off.

[He heads into the kitchen to find a hand towel, holding it and his hands out to take the kitten.]

[She'll hand him over easily, dropping her hands to her sides after.]

[Gently ruffling your fur, kitty. Hope you don't mind.]

Does he have a name at all?

How would I know? He's not mine.

[She says that kindly, of course, a laugh on the edge of her words.]

Any ideas for a temporary one?

Oh, so you found him somewhere? I don't have any ideas for a name right now...we could always just call him 'Shadow' or something until one of us thinks of a better one.

[Uncreative naming is a go?]

[She wrinkles her nose, but laughs.]

I guess Shadow would work. It's better than leaving him nameless. What do you think, little guy?

[He shrugs. Sorry Kairi. The kitty is currently covered with the towel, as Riku's trying to gently dry off his head, so it's hard to tell if he has an opinion just yet.]

You could be even lazier and go with 'Kitty' if you'd prefer that, too.

[He's looking around to see if there's someone else she might be talking to.]

[She'll even hold the kitten out for him to see better!]

[Whoa hi, hey there kitten. He's not quite sure what to do other than stare. Finally he holds out a finger to it.]

Why don't you want it?

[She shrugs, not having a good answer.]

I'm just not a pet person. I think he likes you, Sora.

[Meow!]

Maybe because I'm dry?

[He's a little wary at holding a wet cat. So far as he knows, that does not make for a happy cat.]

Could be. How about you take him, then? Or at least find me a towel for the poor guy.

[She'll keep trying! It's mostly cold.]

Oh, yeah... Here.

[He knows where the hand towels are kept in here, at least. It should be big enough for a kitten, and he's spreading it out with both hands for her to deposit the kitten.]

[I hope you realize the moment she sets him down and he's loose he's going to shake himself out.]

Ack!

[He's hurrying to wrap the towel around the kitten before too much water goes flying around. Unlike Kairi, he isn't dressed for rain.]

[She doesn't even flinch, but she does laugh.]

Sorry.

Where did you find it anyway?

[Sorry cat, but your fur is about to get ruffled big time as he dries you off.]

A hallway. Poor little guy could have drowned out there.

[Kairi's going to start unbuttoning her raincoat while he's doing that.]

How old do you think it is? I wonder if the mother isn't somewhere around...

Old enough to get by on his own, but I'd guess he hasn't been away from her before.

[She slips the coat off and drapes it over the back of a chair, folding her fingers together behind her back. There's no pink in her outfit, a simple, short, white dress with black leggings.]

I bet he's hungry...

[He's handling it carefully, regardless. Most of his attention is on getting the kitten dry, though he's awkward about it. His hands have healed from their injury, but he's still not regained the range of flexibility he used to have.

Congratulations Kairi, you've managed to occupy a teenage boy with a kitten instead of contemplating that white dress and the effects rain could have had on it.]

Probably! Do you want to see what's in the fridge, or should I?

[She moves over closer to get a better look at the kitten, who is still calm despite the drying.]

You go ahead.. I'm not sure what cats are supposed to eat that might be in there.

I guess I could look for cat food in the pantry.

[She'll check there first! The cupboards, too.]

[Meanwhile, Sora's taken to checking the kitten over to be sure he's really okay. He looks like a little black puffball now.]

You don't think he'll poop on anything, do you?

He might.

[How does she know? Hmm... Catfood, catfood...]

Do I look like I want a kitten?

Maybe! What does a person who wants a kitten look like?

How should I know? I don't go around shoving cats at people to see who takes the bait.

If you have a better suggestion, I'm all ears.

[She moves a hand to push her hair back behind one.]

[Can he dodge around her to get into the kitchen? He's going to try.]

Like I care what you do with it. Just keep it away from me.

[Sure thing! She's not going to stop him. She'll even move out of his way.]

Well, just because you're uninterested doesn't mean everyone is.

[Good. Kairis make him agitated just by being around them, and it's easier to simply make them not want to be near him. He glances at the kitten again, before turning his back to her to dig in the pantry.]

Why are you trying to get rid of it, anyway?

He needs a good home. I don't really want a pet for myself, but I'm sure someone else will like him.

[Whatchu gettin', Riku?]

Why don't you just toss him out in the common area? Someone is bound to pick him up.

[If they don't... Oh well. He isn't going to let himself get caught up in the fate of a kitten. No, he's going to pull out a cheap pack of simple ramen noodles once he finds a flavor he likes.]

Yeah, but I'd like to see them for myself. Do you know anyone?

[She's going to go fetch some paper towels while he's doing that.]

No.

[He generally doesn't get to know anyone well enough to know their likes. Their dislikes usually involve him, and he knows it.]

Hmmm. Is there anywhere else where you think I'd find a lot of people?
