[This hallway is relatively empty today, and because of that, Riku is using it to do a test. Anyone who can smell/otherwise sense darkness will probably notice that the hallway has a very high darkness level, but...Riku doesn't appear to be doing anything that would explain that. He's standing to one side, hand on the wall, frowning at nothing in particular.]

[What kind of test, exactly? Here's another Riku, who was only passing by the wall, on her way to somewhere else. She stops to look inside, brow furrowed.]

Riku?

[lightyin]

[He glances up when he hears his name, expression less worried when he realizes it's her.]

Yeah? Hi.

[dawnrise]

[She raises an eyebrow at him, pointedly, asking 'what the hell is going on?' without putting it into words.]

Have an explanation for what's going on, or are you just lounging in it?

[lightyin]

[Good thing he recognizes the 'what the hell' face. He looks a bit awkward at the question.]

I was trying to seal off part of the hallway, but it's not working.

[dawnrise]

[She looks surprised. She wasn't really expecting the darkness to be coming from him. Now she looks suspicious.]

Why?

[lightyin]

I've never tried it before.

[That's part of the answer, anyway.]

[dawnrise]

So you just decided to let loose in the middle of a hallway.

[She sees some flaws in your planning.]

[lightyin]

Something like that.

[Shh, don't point them out. He removes his hand from the wall for a few seconds, then hits the wall with his palm. What looks like a Dark Shield appears and starts expanding from the point of impact, toward the top of the wall, the floor, and either side.]

This is what I've been trying to do.

[He pulls up two more shields with the other hand, one behind either of them, so that they're essentially barricaded in a box.]

[dawnrise]

[She leans back to look at it, eyes alert and taking it in quickly. Well. Now she's wondering.]

What's the point of that?

[lightyin]

There isn't one. The problem is...

[He moves his hand away from the wall and the barrier-cube disintegrates.]

...it won't stay up as long as I want it to.

[dawnrise]

[She nods, considering it.]

I can't keep more than one wall up. That's only if I concentrate. Want some help?

[lightyin]

I can do four if I concentrate. I dunno how you can help.

[Aside from providing moral support.]

[dawnrise]

I can provoke you.

[She holds a hand out and summons her keyblade.]

[lightyin]

That'll work.

[He would summon his keyblade, and almost does, but stops. If he's going to practice shields, then he'd do better to focus on just them and not offense. Unarmed defense position go!]

[dawnrise]

[She's not surprised he would accept, and nods, then... fires a blast of dark firaga at him instead of using her keyblade.]

[lightyin]

[He was expecting a sword blow, and doesn't throw up a shield until the last second, slightly startled. Sneaky.]

[dawnrise]

[She smirks, and, once the shield is up, goes for an onslaught with her keyblade. Combo time!]

[lightyin]

[Aaa no combo time! How well can your keyblade stand up to darkness? Or the darkness stand up to the keyblade, as it is? He expands it, making sure it covers his front, since that's where she's coming from first.]

[dawnrise]

[First. Smart decision, but once it does she twists around, tries to go around it. Can he make it big enough in time, or is he going to have to switch sides, or pull up a second one?]

[She's too fast, so he's going to be somewhat predictable and pull up another shield. If she keeps going around, he'll end up enclosed in...well, more like a giant donut of darkness-barrier.]

[Good. But can he keep it up when she focuses all of her strength on one particular area?]

[He'll just concentrate on keeping that one part of the shield stronger, then, feeding more darkness into it a little at a time.]

[dawnrise]

[Good job. She backs up after a moment, breathing hard then.]

Any easier?

[lightyin]

A little bit, yeah.

[He hasn't put out as much effort into this 'fight' as she has, but as a result of using more darkness than usual, his eyes have taken on a noticable yellow tint.]

[dawnrise]

[That would be a big reason she's stopping.]

But how do you feel?

I feel fine, why?

You shouldn't mess with things you don't know how to do. You could fuck up spectacularly.

[He should continue on his way to get lunch. Annoying Replicas.]

Then you're doing it wrong, if you want to ward an area with Darkness. You're just leaking.

[Okay, now he's just full of himself.]

I'm not leaking, they're not staying up. I've done wards before.

If you've done wards before, then why aren't they staying up? Like I said, you're just leaking your Darkness into the walls. Heartless will start to get attracted if you don't reign that in.

[lightyin]

[No, just full of ego. He huffs, but does start to try pulling the stray Darkness back in to himself.]

I don't know, that's what I'm trying to figure out. They worked before this place changed...but I've never tried to cover this big of an area.

[As for the Heartless, he's not too worried, as they never really seem that interested in him.]

[and 'Riku' is one of the milder and friendlier Replicas living in the DR too]

Have you looked at the wards around Kira's family hallway?

[oyes he knows Kira and knows you've been in contact with her he can smell it]

[What. He barely ever sees her, and he usually just gets lectured about something whenever they do interact.]

Not lately. I tend to stay out of that area.

[let's just say 'Riku' is quite attuned to the various younger members of The Family]

Yeah, she's the type to find you instead. But you should check it out, because Uncle Ri's been layering the whole hallway with his barrier for years.

I'll try sending Shiru that way. He's better friends with Kira than I am.

I've got my own variation of a barrier up around my place. It's definitely harder than just leaking your Darkness into the walls.

And I was wondering about all these strange boys hanging around Kira, my little cousin.

We're harmless, I promise.

[This statement is not contradicted by him casting a small Dark shield nearby and slowly expanding it as he talks.]

I didn't know Kira had cousins around here.

More like, how much family does Kira have around here. Just the cousins are enough for a blitzball team.

That's an impressive family.

[And the shield slowly fades away.]

So where were you headed before you got distracted?

The family is a little on the side of huge, yeah. And I was on my way to grab a sandwich of something before going back to my forge.
