[Today, if one is to go near the beach or rivers connecting it, they will hear humming and faint singing. The words likely won't be made out, but they are likely oddly captivating to anything human. And always, nearby, or perhaps just below the surface, there is a flash of red and black, the tail of a mermaid breaking the surface momentarily as she seeks out food. Anything, anyone will do so long as they aren't a mermaid themselves.
But still, doesn't that voice make you just want to swim, to find the source of that voice? Aren't you maybe just a little bit in love?]

Hello. I wasn't expecting anyone to be out here.
[And yes, she is half-naked. What is modesty?]
no subject
I don't come here very often. And I've never seen a mermaid while I was here.
no subject
Ah, so then I'm fortunate to see you.
no subject
Yeah? You know, most things with colors like that are poisonous, so I think I'll stay right here. But I'm glad to keep talking.
[he's figuring he's okay here anyway, since she doesn't have legs.]
no subject
[A lie, but a damn good one. She stays on her rock, still remaining there and smiling.]
Are you afraid of the water?
no subject
[he's definitely not moving closer now, and is in fact subtly poised to retreat if need be.]
no subject
[Don't worry, she won't go after him yet. She's quietly sizing him up at a meal. Hm, would there even be enough meat on this bony guy?]
no subject
[ah, he weighs more than his appearance suggests, and most of it is muscle, especially in his upper body. P: ]
no subject
That's too bad. The ocean's a wonderful place.
no subject
[trufax. muscle is good for any predator to ingest; he is familiar with this firsthand.]
no subject
[Well, she's not acting like a predator. Yet.]
no subject
[yeah, but she's still giving him weird crawly feelings. things that live purely in water are completely foreign to him, and the fact that she seems so interested in getting him in the water has him on edge, and is why he hasn't outright told her that water causes him physical pain and makes his head-buddy freak right the fuck out.]
no subject
All right, then. By the way, my name is Vanitas.
no subject
[he's shifting his weight slightly, uncertain if she's planning something or not. being this close to the water is also unsettling.]
no subject
[Don't worry, she's decided she's too shaky on her legs still to be able to catch you on land. Not worth the expended energy.]
no subject
[aw, she doesn't have tentacles or seaweed or something she can grab him with? TOO BAD FOR HER. 8D maybe she needs to mind-whammy him with song and lure him closer.]
no subject
And he has something he hopes will counteract it a little - he sits on a rock, rather unwisely dangling his feet in the water, and starts to play along on his sitar. He picks up the tune pretty quickly; as captivating as the music is, he'd probably have slipped into it even if he'd started off trying to play something else.]

Hello?

Hello.
no subject
You're naked!
no subject
Is there something wrong with that?
no subject
[He's even backing up, stumbling a little as he navigates while still looking upward.]

...This is going to be horrible.
horrible things happen to him sometimes.
