[Out in a courtyard, Xeha seems to be occupying himself. There's a pile of books nearby.

Going by what he's doing, it looks like they're tomes of magic. He's busily shooting spells at targets - nothing too complex, nothing that looks like it'd need a suffix on its name. He's more going for technique than power.

Experimenting a little, too, it seems. What happens if he tries this as he casts? What happens if he tries that? As he works, he's going back to the stack of books, looking things up, making notes in another.

All looking very productive, here.]

[at some point along the line, a Sora will be popping up in the doorway to watch with interest! she doesn't want to interrupt, which is the only thing keeping her from speaking up.]

[An unusual show or two's what she'll see, most likely: casting two spells at once? Can he manage that? He's trying, anyway...]

[she's actually pretty interested in this! since she's deviated from the normal KH casting herself, mostly in spells she uses. maybe he'll end up accidentally creating a new attack!]

[He'd love to see what kind of new material she's worked out, too. For now, though, a dummy's getting whacked with a not-quite-simultaneous combo of Fire and Thunder - he frowns, turns away to write a few notes down - and aha! He gives a wave as he does so.]

[in that case, she'll grin and head on inside finally.]

Hey! How's it going?

...Tiring. [He laughs a little.] Thought I'd try a few things out... how about you?

I'm taking a day off from training today, actually. Go figure!

[she pauses, then looks over the books briefly.]

Y'know, I think I read something about combining spells. There wasn't much information, so I never figured out how it worked. It's too bad.

Gotta take a break sometimes, right? [A smile, as he sees where she's looking, and he responds-] I've seen a little, but I'm largely experimenting at the moment.

Any success?

[this is something she actually feels like she can hold a conversation about!]

[He thinks for a moment.] Well, a little... I got quite a nice result when I tried to mix up Aero and Blizzard a bit, but it wasn't very stable. Though I'm not sure that was so much - mixing the spells as casting one into the other's area of effect?

It's a start, at least! What spells have you tried together?

Um - I've been making a record, let me see... [He gets the book, starting to flip through, pointing a few out.] Mostly more elemental things so far? I'm not sure how I'd mix things like Magnet in there.

I guess it'd depend on which version it was, because if I remember right, one of the books I read mentioned two. Buuuuut... maybe finding some way to combine it with, like, Thunder or something? So that when enemies are drawn in, they also get hit with lightning. Or combining it with Fire so it... it explodes when it's done or something! That'd be pretty cool, too.

[He nods. Another two-form spell?] Hey, those could work! Thunder, actually - yeah, electricity and magnetism are kind of connected? That could make a really nice combination!

Have you tried anything with, I dunno, combining spells with physical stuff? Like combos?

Not so far? But now that you mention it...

I've tried it a few times with Fire and Blizzard, but I haven't been able to get it to work quite right yet.

[Looking all curious here-] Yeah? How far did you get? What happened?

[she lets out an embarrassed laugh.]

It kind of exploded.

[He can't help but laugh himself, though he tries to bite it off pretty quickly.]

Aw, no! You weren't hurt too badly, were you?

I was kind of dizzy for a few hours, I think I did something to my ear? But I was completely fine the next day.

And a lot more careful.

Ow. [He makes a face.] Okay. I'll be careful if I start playing with that kind of technique.

Honestly it'd probably be easier with a Keyblade, but yeah, definitely be careful.

[He's not going to agree or disagree whether the key'll help - he suspects it might, but doesn't want to rub his advantage there in her face.]

... I'll stick with things where the damage'll be at a distance for a bit. Not sure what now, though.

[she's okay with it, honestly. it still makes her sad, but she wouldn't hold it against him!]

Good idea. I dunno though. Maybe try combining defensive spells?
