[Why, exactly, is there a sandstorm brewing down this alleyway? ...Must be Tuesday. In any case, two figures well-covered in desert robes and wrappings are making their way slowly out of it, fighting against the wind, the smaller one held closely to the larger's side.

As from their perspective the barrage lets up, dumping a puddle of sand around the street, the larger one looks up and drops his hood. Piercing inhuman yellow eyes, harsh narrow features-
Oh. Hello, Kurt.

He looks down towards his smaller companion - his daughter, in fact, though she seems to have grown at least a little bit since she was last seen - and smiles...]

... well. Looks like we're back.

((Been a while, so trying to kick some life into these two with a bit of an update.))

[she moves to give them both a quick hug, but freezes in place when the radio in her pocket starts emitting static.]

[And as Layla reaches out to return it, she stops as she sees Sora do so-]

Huh? What's wrong? I'm not going to get sand on you...

Y-You need to go. Now. Please?

[the static is getting louder now, more noticeable. Sora drops her arm to her side and summons her pipe.]

Is this related to those monsters you were referring to? If so - [Kurt turns to Layla-] I'll meet you at the ice cream parlour. I assume it's where it was before.

[She bites her lip, nods, and darts off with a wave.]

[an odd creature is lumbering toward them, having appeared seemingly out of thin air some distance away. Sora raises her pipe, gritting her teeth. she's got no ammo in her gun, so this is going to have to be fought in close quarters. she hates melee right now.]

[Okay, if the Heartless thinks that's an ugly brute, it's definitely an ugly brute. He's trying to get the measure of it from a light and dark angle as he looks at the thing, calling swords to hand.]

[it's dark, but not in the way a Heartless is, that's for sure. it's agony and lust and nightmares, if Kurt can even sense that sort of thing.]

...I haven't seen that one before. I dunno how it attacks.

[but they'll be finding out shortly regardless.]

[Well, he's known some Heartless who almost fit that description - but he can tell this is something different, for sure.

He nods, and shifts into a defensive stance, watching its motions carefully.]

[though normally one to immediately go on the offensive, Sora is waiting until the monster is about to strike to actually move. she wants to see how it fights, especially considering it'll be more than bruises if she gets hit by those arms.]

[He'd probably be with her, there.]

Are there any patterns to these - things? I assume they usually make the first move, given the situation?

You mean like fighting? The big ones... swing their arms a lot more than they stab... they like to knock you down so you're vulnerable.

[she darts forward with her pipe, under the monster's massive swing, to crack her pipe against its side once and roll away.]

Hmph. So they do have some strategy to them.

[And a very rare occurrence (well, in most worlds) is about to take place, as a Heartless goes on the attack for the sake of an (ex-)keybearer.]

Some, yeah. Not a lot. It usually just amounts to corner or knock down.

[time for a battle! she's quite happy to have a powerful ally, as this monster is quickly proving more trouble than most of the ones she's had to face so far.]

[And any excuse for a good fight, as far as he's concerned. 'Scuse, whirling mess of blades coming through.]

[eep! she's just going to duck away and give him the room to do that.]

[Coming in with a few whirling blows, then - and hopefully springing back and away after he's done so.]

[just watch out for that second set of limbs flailing every time they get close! the monster's called a Two-Back for a reason. Sora will unfortunately get a couple nicks from the monster's arms before they've managed to take it down.]
