(no subject)

[usually this time of year, one sees trees decorated with ornaments and garlands, not life-sized Rikus that are unnaturally still. he's in a flowing white robe and his wings are spread to either side, light catching on the tinsel woven into the feathers of them and tiny golden star ornaments hung amongst them. he also has a very unconvincing halo, and in his hands is... a large tray of Christmas-themed cookies.

feel free to take one, but please don't tug on the wings!]

[hey look who it is staring at you.]

Riku?

[he's very slow to respond, and when he does it's only his eyes that track over to where Sora is standing. there's a glimmer of recognition in them, and then they go dull again, staring straight through as if he isn't truly alive at all.]

[That's kind of alarming, and it makes Sora stand up straighter, staring up at him.]

Riku?

Ssss....

[his mouth barely moves, and his voice dries up before he can even say Sora's name. his skin is slowly taking on a more marble-like appearance, and the flowing robe is growing to be less flowing and more stiff. he seems to be caught mid-spell.]

[Oh man, what is this? He launches up to grab his shoulder.]

Come on, Riku.

[he won't have to launch himself very far, as Riku is closer to Sora's own height than he was a few minutes ago. Sora should feel Riku's Light flutter through the touch, as if it were a moth beating against a window pane. it's as if he's trapped inside a shell of himself, one that's still steadily shrinking and growing less realistic by the minute.]

[His grip tightens, and he puts his other hand on the side of Riku's face. He is fretting majorly and doesn't know how to fix this.]

[Riku doesn't know how either, unfortunately. he's fighting it, but already his wings look more like hollow porcelain with silver and gold paint decorating them, and his skin is growing harder beneath Sora's touch. the tray is the only thing still the same size, and looks ready to topple to the ground at any moment.]

Just hang in there, okay? I'll figure something out.

[And take the tray so Riku doesn't end up making a mess of himself on top of being a statue.]

[as soon as Sora takes the tray there's a flash of light, and a clatter. there's no sign of Riku until one looks down, where they'll find a hand-painted Christmas angel tree ornament that looks very much like a tiny, winged Riku.]

[Sora yelps and contributes another clatter to the noise levels in here by dropping the tray. Once he finds him again, he's immediately down and picking Riku up, staring at him with wide-eyes.]

R... Riku?

[there's another little flutter of Light from the ornament in response, but even though he's smaller, the feeling of it hasn't grown any weaker.]

[He's holding him within inches of his face.]

You're so tiny!

[careful, he's breakable. he also seems to be missing a pair of legs beneath those robes. the robes themselves are very stiff, keeping to a cone-like shape that should give one ideas when looking at the bare tree in the room.]

[Sora is definitely not going to put him on a tree, excuse me.]

What am I going to do with you?

[he'll be stuck with a stationary ornament until Christmas, then!]

What, did you get demoted or something?

[She raises an eyebrow at him and takes a cookie.]

[it's a slow process, but his expression manages to go from a blank stare to a disapproving frown in Namine's direction. it doesn't last long, and even as she watches some of his hair is growing harder and less realistic.]

What the...

[That slow process is kind of alarming and she's currently looking him over to see wtf is going on.]

[being demoted doesn't usually mean growing shorter, either. the robes are adjusting along with him, but it's a slow and slightly jerky process as he's fighting the change from within. the decorations on his wings already look more painted on than real like they did a few minutes ago.]

[She doesn't know what to do. Is there anything she can do but watch?]

How do these things manage to happen to you exactly?

[If he's shrinking to like. a foot tall size, she's totally carrying him around.]

[Akane points. "Birdy!"]
