[there's a sound of breaking glass from this room, quickly followed by a loud, THUD. investigations will show that the ceiling is mysteriously whole, even if it looks like the dirt-encrusted black coffin in the middle of the room just crashed through a glass ceiling. there's a heavy chain wrapped around the length of it, a thick red ribbon woven through the links. it's bound by a big, old-fashioned padlock with the ribbon around it forming a bow, as though the coffin is really a present.

but really, who would want to open that? possibly anyone who knew the boy inside it. or perhaps not. the tarnished plaque on the coffin reads: Riku Mori, born June 14, 1992, died June 14, 2010.

predictably, there's not a sound from inside.]

*WHAT THE SHIT IS THIS?!*

[IT IS A COFFIN! Dare you to knock.]

*he's screaming and rushing forward with Soul Eater to hack at the chains*

RIKU!! NO!

[that is not knocking 8< sparks fly off the chains, the ribbon quickly turning to tatters. the old lock is too worn to put up much fight against an attack like that; after a few strikes it'll give, making a heavy thud of its own when it hits the floor.]

*he's dropping Soul Eater, fingers scrabbling at the lid of the coffin, completely panicked*

Riku! Riku!

[there's no reply, and when the lid can finally be pried open the scent of all the dried white roses packed inside is almost overpowering. Riku is unmoving in the middle of them, his skin incredibly pale and eyes shut. do mind the glass, and the thorns on those roses.]

*he staggers back when the scent of roses hits him, one hand over his nose and mouth, because that always brings up bad memories*

[there's no Marluxia in sight, at least. just Riku, in a dark suit that does nothing to keep him from looking any paler than he already is. after a minute or so the cloying scent will have eased somewhat, no longer trapped inside the coffin.]

*it's horrible to see you in a coffin and he tears up, not daring to come closer*

... Riku... no...

[the sound of your voice makes his brow furrow, just barely. then his expression evens out, and he's once again as still as he was before.]

*well he's tearing up now, because he didn't expect to see you in a fucking coffin*

[then you probably also didn't expect him to suddenly stretch his arms out, then... roll over. he's facing you now, and there's a faint snore starting once he's changed his position.]

*screaming, he is screaming his head off*

*Sora has the bad luck of the coffin nearly smushing him, and after he gets over his near heart attack he... has another one -- his eyes are huge as he reads the name over and over again*

[the date might sounds a little familiar, too. hopefully you weren't hurt by any of the falling glass, Sora. ;;]

*it does... it's just... he can't focus or think, the sound of his Heart beating in his ears is so loud, and everything's spinning so fast -- his chest muscles are squeezing so hard, and without even thinking to do so, his blade appears to unlock the padlock*

[the lock will fall away with a rusty creak, leaving just the bow and the chain to be pushed out of the way. it's an old-style coffin, so Sora shouldn't need too much strength to pry it open if he tries.]

*he does come closer, his fingers touching the edge very gingerly, as if deciding whether he should look, because he hopes it's empty -- his mind races, and heart's on the verge of shattering as he lifts the lid just so to peer in, sobbing hard when he sees that flash of silver hair*

[hold your breath, because as soon as the hinges give way and let the lid creak open, there's going to be a strong scent of old roses hitting the room. Riku's in his best dark suit, the one he only wore once before to.. well. a funeral.]

*in his delirium as he holds his breath and pulls the lid off, letting it drop to the floor with a loud thud, he's... offended that your parents dressed you this way... the least they could do was dress you properly for eternity; tears are running down his cheeks, and he looks up, as if there's an answer for this, and because you're so pale, so artificial, there's no way this lifeless body can be his Riku*

[he may be pale, but he's definitely not artificial. that thud is loud, enough to make his face scrunch up just barely, before his face relaxes again.]

*he's sobbing pretty hard now which has his vision completely blurred, though he does wipe it so that he can see you better, his voice small and afraid when he finally chokes out your name*

R-Riku. I waited for you... you said we'd go together.

*he just can't believe this at all, this isn't right and his heart is about to just...stop*

[he doesn't respond, not at first. it's as if the words had to marinate a minute before Riku slowly shifts, rolling over amidst all the roses to lie on his side, lips barely moving as he echoes you in a mumble.]

We.. go t'geth...

*he's crying too hard, and anything he heard, he figures he imagined -- he takes his fill of you with his eyes for a few more seconds, before sliding down to sit and lean against the coffin, because his legs won't hold him any longer; he's thinking about the time that he spent at home with you when he was sent back -- he said he'd take your last name, but how can he when it's printed on the lid of a coffin? what could have happened to you? you've always been his hero, the Great Riku who could always reach the peanut butter on the top shelf, who scared the bullies away and helped him with his homework, and now... now you're gone, and death back home lasts forever. You're gone.*

[are you imagining that hand settling heavily on your head, Sora? it moves sluggishly in a vague petting motion, and his eyes are just barely open, unfocused as he stares at that tuft of brown hair he can see.]
