[it's rather quiet in this hall, nothing of particular notice except perhaps, the ball-shaped cage at the end of it. there's a person inside, both halves of the cage chained shut to keep them from escaping.

not that he looks to be going anywhere. what appears to be a Riku is just sitting there, his arms bound around himself by an orange straitjacket. he's staring at the ground in front of him, but both eyes are blank. the lights are on, but it would seem that nobody is home.

anyone coming close enough to investigate will find a tag on the lock of the cage that reads: Property of Ansem, Do Not Touch]

[The sight alone is enough to tear at his heart strings. That's a Riku there, stuck in that cage. That's what makes him approach, looking to see if there's anything he can do to help, maybe?]

[As he glides forward on his treks, his eyebrows furrow. That blank look... he's seen it before.]

[No, wait, that straight jacket. He knows that straight jacket--]

"Property of"... No-- Riku?!

[It's not just any Riku, it's his Riku, his own, stuck in that cage. He's looking for a way to break the cage open. Will the chains come off? Is there a lock?]

[there is definitely a lock, a padlock keeping the ends of a thick chain woven through the two halves of the cage. Sora doesn't get any response at all, as if he isn't even there.]

[No, no, no. This isn't right. He grabs the bars nearest to the padlock.]

Riku? Replica! If you can hear me, I'm gonna get you out of here!

[This means Sora's backing up and downright attempting to maul the padlock and nearby bars with his A-Ts, doing his best not to send out any waves of light, but keep the energy in his moves concentrated on the impact point. If several months apart from this world has given him anything, it's control over that light of his.]

[the lock can't withstand something of that force for very long, the metal sparking with each hit. Riku doesn't so much as blink when it shatters.]

[He's ripping the chains off of it, and getting in, immediately looking around the area, checking him over. Where's the eyepatch.]

[eyepatch? what eyepatch? there's a bit of torn string by Riku's left ear, the only sign that there was ever something there.]

[He has no idea what to do, so he's losing his shirt and tearing it apart. He'll make one if he has to, anything to get at least one side of him coherent. It's crude, but it will work (he hopes, oh god he hopes). He wraps it around, over the bridge of his nose at first, and then pushes it over to cover the right eye, trying to coax Riku out.]

[at first there's no response. then he suddenly gasps, like life has just been returned. he jerks, visible eye watering as though he's in pain.]

[Sora backs up slightly, putting his hand on the door of the cage to brace himself and keep it open. He doesn't speak, doesn't move. He's waiting, even though he just wants to hug him and never let go.]

[it's the fact that he feels a heart he hasn't in quite a while that's got him wandering down the hall. he doesn't even read the tag before he summons his Keyblade; it's someone he knows, remembers, and they're in a cage. simple conclusion: get them out. so he's doing that wonderful Keyblade thing and unlocking that lock.]

[the lock falls open easily, paper tag fluttering from the movement. that heart Kai feels is in turmoil, like it can't decide whether it wants to be dark or light.]

[when he sees the lack of eyepatch, he's not too surprised by that turmoil. he'll be moving to pull Riku out of the cage before he does anything for that part, however. just in case the cage decides it wants to close again. he definitely doesn't trust this place.]

[Riku doesn't resist, but he doesn't help either. as soon as he's pulled from the cage the hinge creaks, then slams shut.]

[yeah fuck you too, cage. he props Riku against the far wall, then starts digging through his pockets for something that can be used as a makeshift eyepatch. all he's able to find is a roll of bandages in the end, but hopefully that will do. he can't remember which eye is which person, so he just picks one and starts wrapping the bandage over it and around his head carefully.]

[almost as soon as one eye is covered he suddenly jerks back, head knocking against the wall sharply. his visible right eye is narrowed suspiciously, masking any underlying pain that might have caused]

Whoa, easy there. I'm not about to try anything.

[he's not sure if he's remembered or not, but there's a Cure spell being cast all the same.]

[he gives another little jerk at the spell, which helps with the bump his head received but not so much with the headache he's got. still, some of the suspicion is replaced with caution as that eye darts to the left and right.]

[Avani is on her way back from the craft room with a handful of shrinky-dink paper for Rikka's birthday present when she sees the cage. Shifting the paper to one hand she summons her keyblade with the other and uses it to unlock the cage. She may not know this person, but she'll be damned if she just leaves him there.]

[the lock falls away with a click, some of the chain falling with it to hit against the cage noisily. there's no reaction from the boy inside.]

[Avani sets the paper down on the floor next to the cage and carefully moves to get him out, and then uses her keyblade to unlock any locks on the straitjacket.]

[his arms fall down to his sides limply, and he doesn't react at all to her moving him. he may as well be in a coma with his eyes open.]

[She whispers this to herself as she hefts him up and takes him to an empty bedroom to lay down. Holy crap this was almost a repeat of Rikka's little meltdown five months ago, she realizes.]

Now how can I wake you up?

[She sits beside the bed and watches him while she tries to think.]

[he doesn't so much as grunt as he's moved; she's lucky in that he doesn't weigh as much as he would if he didn't constantly burn off energy skating. the only clue there is to find is rather small, a bit of broken string caught on his ear. not having met him before though, it should prove quite the puzzle.]

[Avani picks the string up carefully once she notices it, then tucks the blanket around him then goes to check the cage for any other clues.]
