[Sora is occupying the beach room today: he's seated right along the shoreline, his clothes already soaking wet from the occasional strong wave crashing into him. he doesn't care though; he has something very important on his mind.]

[he has a bottle with a letter in his hands-- he stayed up a few hours past his bedtime last night with a flashlight underneath the covers, hardly able to fit everything he wanted to say in the paper he provided himself: "Hi Mom and Dad, how are the islands? I'm eight now. Long division's really hard, but I'm trying my best. I'm learning how to fight with a sword better, too. It's dangerous here. Sometimes you can't even eat the cupcakes.

"You didn't forget me, right? When are you coming to see me?"]

[the next time a wave crashes up past his knees, he lays the bottle in the water so gently, like it's made of thin porcelain, and watches it float off with the tide. today is shaping up to be a quiet birthday, but Sora doesn't mind.]

*Daddies have a good sense of perception, you know. They know when something's on their kid's mind. There's a bottle floating towards the littlest Sora, passing the bottle that he just let go of.*

"Dear Sora,

Did you know that when I got here I was really lonely? I didn't have any friends at all, besides Ri. I was really happy that you wanted to be my friend. You were only six years old then, but today you're eight. Eight whole years! And you've gotten taller, and bigger, and smarter (just like Bawk!).

You miss your parents, don't you? I miss my mom, too. Even though I'm almost twenty years old, I miss when we would sit around in our pyjamas and watch cartoons, or when we would go to the beach with Riku when I was little. It's hard to remember her sometimes. Do you want to go home? I do, too. But I know that we can't all go home together, and I cherish (that means to be really thankful for) all the memories I have with everybody here.

I'm really proud to be your friend and your Daddy. You're the best soup of them all. C:"

[Sora almost forgets to get out of the way of the water before opening the bottle, but he scrambles back toward the beach and plops down in the sand, ripping off the cork and shaking the note into his hands.]

[he reads the note slowly and carefully so he doesn't finish it too quickly, his little finger tracing the paper as he goes along and clinging to every word. when he finally finishes, he reads it again. and again. and then he jumps to his feet, looking around the room and trying to brush the sand off the note. it's too precious to him to get dirty.]

[he gathers up his note and present in his arms-- he won't try to use it like he's been instructed, but that does mean he's going to run off to find Sora absolutely right this second. he doesn't even care if he's completely sandy and salt water-y.]

[he honestly doesn't realize he is getting taller and stronger, even if he's still sort of on the short size for his age, so hopefully he doesn't hit Sora too hard with that huge hug the second he spots him in the kitchen. now they're both sandy!]
