we didn't start the fire

[Akane has been grouchy all day. Larxene, hoping she just needed longer to wake up or something, has been trying to go through their normal routine, but it's not really working. The baby hasn't cheered up much, and mommy's just gotten more frustrated.

Sitting down to play seemed to be working for a little while, until Larx noticed it was already past Akane's naptime and tried to put her toys away, causing her daughter to start throwing a screaming tantrum.

She (mother, not baby, of course) is trying very hard not to lose her temper.]

Shut up, you stupid brat! It's just a dumb toy you'll forget about in ten minutes anyway!

[she picks her up, turning her head to avoid a flailing hand. Something smells like smoke...

Oh. The stroller is starting to catch fire. Isn't that lovely.]

[and a few minutes later, here's her room! Akane's pretty much settled down by now.]

You're a lifesaver, Axel.

[parks the stroller out of the way and goes to take Akane back]

Hey, no problem... You know I don't mind helping out.

[Passes Akane back to her]

I could kiss you right now, seriously.

[pats Akane on the back and heads over to the changing table. Probably a good idea to make sure she didn't pee herself while she was throwing a fit.]

[... stares at for a sec then chuckles nervously, because she's just kidding, right.]

Hah, w-well. If you really want to.

[so. cruel.]

[she has business to attend to first! That unpleasant task being over with quickly, she sets Akane in her crib, then disappears into the adjoining bathroom to wash her hands.]

[The lack of reply has him arching a brow, confused.]

[don't worry, she hasn't forgotten. She comes back to him and, with a little smirk, leans in to kiss him on the cheek.]

[NOT BLUSHING WHAT.]

I... [Wipe that stupefied expression off your face, Axel.]

... Thought you were kidding.

[Axel, you are so. adorable.]

[pouts a little]

Aww, Axel.

[... Well. It's not like he can make things any more awkward than they already are. He's going to turn to close the distance between them and kiss that pout off her lips, kind of expecting to get smacked.]

[that catches her off guard! But... she likes it. She reacts before her brain can really catch up to the situation, slinging her arm around his waist and kissing back.]

[That's not how you smack someone, Larxene. What are you doing? He's caught off guard too but he's definitely not about to complain, a hand moving to rest on her hip.]

[aaaand realization kicks in. She stops, but doesn't try to pull away, a deep blush spreading across her cheeks.]

Oh. Well. I guess I should have seen that coming.

[He watches her uncertainly for a moment before stepping back, rubbing at the back of his neck and looking at the floor.]

We talked about this, though. I'm supposed to be getting over you, right?
