[ This puppet had played her part. Sora's memories were returned to him, and she ceased to exist. Naminé had warned her that no one would remember her once she was gone—that there'd be no her to remember—and Xion had accepted it. ]

Unh…

[ Her palms against the floor, she lifted herself so that she’d be able to survey her surroundings. This movement seemed to take a bit more effort than it usually would have for her; how long had it been since she’d last been in this… vessel? She knew she wasn’t supposed to be here, and she hadn’t a clue as to why she was. She sat herself upright on the floor of the large room, looking down at her body to see the familiar coat of the Organization. She lifted a hand to her head, making sure her hood covered her eyes. Just in case.

Then, and only then, did she allow herself to question how she’d really landed herself face-down in this room. Did someone bring her here? Had something gone terribly wrong with Sora? ]

This isn’t right.

[Despite the fact that he's still incredibly embarrassed and awkward around girls after what happened with that last spell, he cant just ignore this. So he'll hurry over to her.]

Hey, are you alright?

[ Although the hood kept her face out of view, her form visibly tensed up. ]

R-Roxas...

[ And then her form relaxed because despite her concern for whatever must have happened to Sora, there was still a part of her that couldn't help but be just a little selfish; a part of her that wanted to just enjoy Roxas's familiar face.

His question kept her from getting too comfortable. He didn't remember her, but he'd remember Sora, wouldn't he? Sora's well-being was all that mattered now. Inevitably, she answered his question with another question. ]

Is Sora alright?

[...Frowns a bit.]

Don't really know. I got brought here before I could merge with him.

[Offers a hand to help her to her feet.]

[ Then he still had to be sleeping... right? Xion took a bit of comfort from that. Maybe it has only been a day or so since she'd gone back to him. It sounded like Roxas had been on his way back to Sora too. She'd just find Naminé later and... and everything would be alright. It had to be. ]

We can still make it work.

[ Contrary to the boy's frown, he'd get a tiny smile out of her as she took hold of his hand only to be helped up. Her free hand, however, held onto her hood so it wouldn't fall. Apparently she was being self-conscious... and why wouldn't she be? She didn't know who - or what - Roxas would see now. Once on her feet, she let go of Roxas's hand, peering at him for another moment before posing another question. ]

You're okay too, aren't you?

[...Doesn't comment on the "still make it work" part. Really, he doesn't want to go back to Sora.

...Nods.]

Yeah. I'm fine.

[ Xion tilted her head, as if she sort of wanted to press him for a different answer, but she didn't bother. Instead, she looked past him, toward the other side of the room, and then turned her head to gaze over her shoulder. Well, it seemed like it was a big enough place.

Turning her eyes back onto Roxas, she pursed her lips, on the verge of continuing to badger the poor boy with questions. Where they were, how they got there... But no, it's not what Xion wanted to say at all. ]

Do you want to have ice cream with me?

[ Because they had to have ice cream somewhere in a place as big as this one. ]

[...Okay, he's smiling now.]

Sure.

[ For a moment, she could pretend things were the way they used to be. That maybe they'd even find Axel, already eating without them. Maybe it was wrong, but it made her grin. ]

Okay! Any idea where we might find some? Otherwise, we can just search around.

There's always some in the kitchen. Come on, it's this way.

[Leads the way!

Also, he doesn't know why he's instantly trusting this person, or why he's all smiles now. Just that, this feels really familiar...]

[ The first few steps she took after Roxas were a bit unbalanced, taking the sort of effort it'd taken her to sit up earlier in order to keep her from faceplanting into the floor all over again. But within a few seconds, her body adjusted, and her steps became easier to take. She just kept walking, guided by Roxas and the prospect of ice cream. Soon enough, her footsteps were light, effortless as they were however long ago when she'd last used them.

Entering a room equipped so that could only have been the kitchen Roxas had mentioned, Xion started toward the fridge. ]

Any chance they might have sea-salt..?

Of course! I think this place has just about every flavor.

[ Xion was digging through the freezer. She'd only ever tried sea-salt ice cream, and she wasn't sure how many other flavors there could be. But with all the ice cream she came across in her search, she was pretty sure that Roxas was right: this place had just about every flavor.

She plucked a bar of sea-salt ice cream from the lot and peeked back at Roxas. ]

Do you want sea-salt too, or have you found something better?

Better than sea-salt? Never.

[ Xion giggled, turning back to the freezer to pull out a second bar of sea-salt ice cream. She transferred both bars into one hand and used the other to press the freezer shut, finally turning around to give one to Roxas. ]

You haven't changed~.

[Blinks.]

Huh?

[Have they, met before? She does seem really familiar...But he cant remember.]

[ Ohsh—

Xion froze, arm still extended with the ice cream. She could lie. Or she could tell the truth. Either way, she had let her selfishness get the best of her. What was she doing here? With ice cream and Roxas? She should have known better. She couldn't go back. ]

...

[ That's all he'd get for a minute or two: nothing. Xion bit her lip, wondering if she'd be messing up further by telling him the truth. He was still one of her best friends, even if he couldn't remember it. ]

I... I knew you once.

[Oh, thanks. He'll take that ice cream now.]

You did?

[...So familiar why cant he remember???]

[ Her hand dropped to her side, her own ice cream still held in her grip. Although he wouldn't be able to see it, she furrowed her brow, turning her face away from him just slightly as she glared at the floor. But she wasn't really angry, and when she looked back at Roxas, she just had a tiny frown. ]

You, Axel, and me...

[ She clenched her free hand, holding it up to where her heart would have been. It occurred to her that she ought to just stop, but she suspected Roxas would be confused whether she went on or not. Their whole relationship had been a lie, and yet it felt wrong to lie to him now. She wished someone was there to help her explain, even, but then she realized that if Roxas had forgotten her, everyone had.

Well, this sucks. ]

We're—... I mean... we were best friends.

[.....Frowning a bit because he cant remember.

But then, Light bulb! He digs in his pocket, before pulling a a seashell out and showing it to her.]

I found this in my pocket a few weeks ago. I know it's important, but I couldn't remember why. Do you know it?

[ He didn't remember. She could see it on his face.

...And then he was digging in his pocket, Xion watching him, lost as to how to proceed. The next thing she knew, he was holding a thalassa shell. There was a jolt of surprise that made her jump. ]

You kept my seashell!

[ Considering the circumstances, she probably shouldn't have been smiling. But then again, Roxas had said that he knew it was important. He didn't have a memory of her, or where he'd gotten that seashell, but that he thought it was important had to mean something. And Xion would take that much. ]

It's yours?

....You're the one I cant remember, aren't you? What happened? Why cant I remember?

[Sorry for all the questions. But he's been trying to figure this out for a while now, and he wants answers.]

[ But she didn't mind the questions, because all that mattered to her at the moment was that he believed her. And if she had just a little more time to spend before she found Naminé or Riku and made sure Sora was alright for her to go back to... she'd always choose to spend what time she had left with Roxas and Axel. Only, Axel might just keep bring her back to the Castle... Well, still. ]

I went back... to be with Sora. That's where you and I belong, Roxas. My memories—the ones that made me the girl that you knew—they weren't mine. I had to give them back, but when I did, everyone had to forget me.

[ It was pouring out of her. As if she couldn't help herself. Finally, she remembered to stop herself and make sure Roxas was still following what she was saying. It had taken her time to come to terms with, after all. ]

[Uh-oh. You hit a sore spot there. You see, he was brought here just before merging with Sora. You know, when he was still throwing his little tantrum about wanting to live his own life?

Frowns.]

Why?

[ Xion returned his frown with one of her own, but it was different. She was confused. Did he mean to ask why she went back? Why they belonged with Sora? Why the memories hadn't been hers? Why she had to give the memories back? Why everyone had to forget? Where had she lost him?

So her voice was just an echo. ]

Why..?

[ And then she gave him an answer that could solve any one of those questions. Her voice was confident, unwavering, like she was trying to make Roxas understand. ]

Because it's better for everyone if Sora wakes up.

[Why to everything.]

So we just have to give up everything, so he can wake up? I mean, he's the reason we're here anyway, but, it's not fair that he can just take it all back like that. Why do we have to sacrifice everything for him?

[Is going to be very stubborn about this.]
