Replicas smell like... purer Darkness, since that's what we're mostly made of. Rikus, in general, can be told apart by the amount of Light in them.

... and the process of making Replicas is slightly more complicated than just being 'made', but it's certainly not like being born.

I was made from his data, and his darkness. Supposed to fight for Ansem, but there's no way that's going to happen. He tried to separate me and Namine... tried to make her erase my memories.

I've only been alive for a few months, almost all that time was spent cooped up in Even's lab, and then the dungeon.
