Sit, Tai!

[she's squatting, with a bag of dog treats in her hand and one in the other. obviously she's trying to get the small terrier in front of her to sit, but... doesn't seem to be working.]

I think he's a terrier. Some kind of one, anyway.

[as she says this, she tries to push Tai down--to some avail, though he just stands back up again.]

Whatever kinda terrier he is, he sure is cute! { With a smile, she clicks her tongue a bit and waves her hand over at Tai. }

Make him sit first. Like, push his butt down gently so he sits, then give him the treat? 's what I did for mine.

Okay well, he's not going to understand the word right away, you know? So you have to make him sit while you say the word, then give him the treat. Then he'll start connecting that the word means if he sits down, he'll get a treat.

Okay, here goes.

[with some difficulty, she makes the terrier sit, giving him the treat afterwards and petting him.]

Now you just repeat that until he learns. It could take anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks, depending on how smart he is.

Maybe. Or he might be trapped here, too. If kittens can suddenly appear, I don't see why you can't keep a dog.
