[out of nowhere a tiny fox seems to poke his head out from one of the closets. He peeks around, then slowly, if not uncertainly, steps out. This definitely isn't the farm, or the forest, for it's much too big, and seems unfamiliar...]

[was just walking nearby, but the sight of a small animal makes him pause.]

[what's this? Backs up just a little, but peeks up at Kai. He's never seen a human this small before.]

[crouches down, smiling.]

[oh, well this one doesn't seem all that bad, so he perks up]

Hiya!

What kinda animal are you?

[is a very curious child, yes.]

I'm a fox!

[so a human that understands him, that's odd, but he doesn't seem to mind]

I'm Tod! What's your name?

My name's Kai! I never seen a fox before. Only cats an' dogs an' chocobos.

[...oh gosh those ears are calling for pets but he's going to refrain.]

Hey, I know a dog! He's my best friend!

Really? Cool! I only have people friends, 'cept for Molly. He's a cat.

What's a cat? I've never seen one of those before.

[headtilt]

It's ummmm.

[trying to figure out how to describe it. now isn't it a coincidence that Molly chooses this time to make his way over, all the way up to Tod to sniff at him.]

That's a baby cat!

[he sniffs as well. How strange]

He looks kinda like a fox! But kinda different, too.

[Molly lets out a soft purr before stationing himself beside Kai, who just grins.]

That's why I asked what kinda animal you are, 'cause you look kinda like a cat an' a dog.

Hey, I kinda do!

[laughs, then crouches down]

Wanna play?

Play what?

Tag, hide 'n seek, anything that's fun!

'kay, but we have to be careful! 'cause there are these monsters made of shadow, an' they'll eat you. They like hidin' in dark places, so maybe tag is better.

Monsters? They can't be that scary, right?

[this is coming from a fox who almost got chewed up by Chief, after all]

But tag's fun, too!

Some of 'em don't look very scary, but they can still eat you up.

[but enough of that. stands, smiling brightly.]

Who's it?

Hmm...

[thinks, for a moment, then starts to dart off]

You're it!

[Just trotting along and spots something furry and orange out of the corner of her eye. Just stops and looks at him.]

Hello!

[whoa... he looks pretty amazed at how big she is]

Wow, you're really big!

[Just giggles.]

Well you're really small!

[Leans down so that they're more at eye level.]

I'll be bigger someday! You'll see.

[pouts just a little-- but wait, he still doesn't know where he is]

What is this place?

[Tail bounces]

This is a dressing room! At least, I-I think that's what it's called. But there's a bunch of people that look the same around here. And they all come from far away places and most of them are really, really nice!

Wow! I don't remember seeing anything like this on the farm...

[he's only met two people, so he can't judge well, but--]

They don't carry around guns or anything, do they?

[Turns her head to the side a bit, thinking. Then shakes it.]

Nope, not that I've seen. A lot of them do carry around these big metal things, but they've never attacked any animals with them. [Smiles at him.] So don't worry! No hunters here!

Okay, good, 'cause I don't like hunters...

[especially the kind that tie up his best friend so they can't play together...]

So, what're you? I've never seen anything like you before.

[Giggles.]

I'm a deer, silly! Don't you see a lot of me out in the forest? I sure see a lot of foxes!

I haven't seen any! Just Big Mama, Dinky, Boomer, and my best friend, Copper! He's a hound dog!

[Looks surprised.]

You're friends with a hound dog? But they're mean! They bite and growl at us!

Not Copper! He'd never do any of that!

Oh well if he's a nice hound dog, then that's okay. Is he here too?

[Looks around a bit.]

I don't think so... Maybe I should go look for him.

I'll help! I'm looking for my best friend too!

Okay! But I dunno where to start...

Hop on! I'll show you around...

[Kneels down so that Tod can reach.]

We can check the place with the flowers, and the place with all the trees, and the spot where all the humans go for the food, and we can ask a few people if they've seen a dog running around...
