[lots of books are neatly piled on the table Zexion is at, and it seems he's already read through a fair number of them. But despite the unnatural paleness of his skin and the way his eyes seem to hold a bit more shadows than one of his more normal counterparts, he doesn't seem fatigued at all. If anything, he's perusing his current volume with unusual intensity.

The observant may notice that all of the books have to do with the Underworld in some way or another.]

Ah--

[surprised at the number of books, she quietly inquires.]

... did you read all of these?

[glances up from the lines of text and - well, a Naminé with wings (sprouting from her head, no less) certainly isn't usual.]

I did.

Naminé, I presume?

[quite the oddity, yes. she nods slowly.]

Correct. Ur...

[she takes a moment to remember.]

Zexion?

[nods]

That is my name. Is there an Organization in the world you come from?

[shakes her head.]

I've seen some men around here who look like you and have your name, so I guessed.

I see. What is your world like then, if I may ask?

It's... rather normal. I believe the animal hybrids are the only unique trait.

And why do such hybrids exist?

[pauses, twirling a feather of hers in between her fingers.]

Entertainment. I sing for whoever buys me.

A life different from most, but hardly unheard of at the same time.

I suppose not.

[she pulls down her skirt a little, then looks at the books, more carefully.]

... I'm sorry, I can't read. What subject are you reading on?

[raises an eyebrow at that, but it does make sense.]

The Underworld.

[surprised.]

... as in Hell?

Actually, no. A common misconception, but the Underworld in this context merely refers to the realm of the dead.

[nods a bit.]

I see... is it interesting?

Quite. Death is considered one of the great mysteries, after all.

[glances at the books' spines]

A scholar of mythology, then?

Mythology where you come from perhaps. But the Underworld is a very real location in my universe.

And so, the parallels continue to boggle the mind...

[eyebrow raise] Am I to assume that you hail from Greece?

No. I hail from the World that Never Was, actually.

Ah, wait, one moment- [pulls a worn black notebook out of his pocket and flips to a page marked with a post-it note]

I met one similar to you, Zexion. [brow furrows] However, he never made any mention of the Underworld.

[notes? He doesn't sound like the Vexen he knows, but there doesn't seem to be much difference either way.]

The topic may hold slightly more interest for me than him.

How so?

You could say I've had a close encounter with death.

[smirk]

Personified, or otherwise?

Otherwise.

[deadpan.]

[smirk widens]

Fascinating.

Is it really.

In my universe, Death takes a far more...indirect approach. Hades, the Grim Reaper, what have you--mere fantasy created by ignorant civilizations with no other way to explain humanity's inevitable fate.

I believe I have reason to be interested.

Well, in my universe, Hades is as real as the Underworld he rules over.

I can only assume that your run-in with...Axel ended more painfully than that of the other Zexion.

That would depend on the demise of the other Zexion.

Said demise never came about. Somehow--I've never gotten a sufficient explanation out of him--he managed to escape.

How peculiar.

More like blind luck, if you want my opinion.

Hm. You may keep it; I don't believe in chance.

Funny. I don't believe in fate.

I don't either. Fate falls into the same category as chance and luck, being some outside force which affects the circumstances. If that Zexion did manage to escape death, then it was due to either his own actions or that of the Axel involved in that situation.

Perhaps I should rephrase myself. I believe that Zexion--the other, that is--most likely escaped his demise through the sort of thing that cannot be planned in advance. Coincidence, perhaps, though I am still unsure if even that is the right word to describe it.

You and he are, I can assume, similar enough that your reactions to Axel and the Replica's attack would be nearly identical. A difference of less than a second between the time he moved to escape and yours could have decided whether you lived or died.

Perhaps. Regardless, there is no use in altering parts of the past that cannot be changed.

No use indeed. [smirks] This room seems to have done the job for us.

(may be looking at one of the books, fairly intrigued)

Interesting, is it?

Yeah. Are you studying about something?

Yes. Death, and the Underworld in particular.
