[ At this point holiday parties are to be expected, just as much as spells and mistletoe. Four years of routine and tradition aren't often broken, especially by the DR, and the annual Christmas Eve party is here. There's not a big ballroom this year, or a large snowy landscape. Just a large room, decorated with soft couches and sofas, a large, warming fireplace with stockings hung up, and an enormous fresh Christmas tree, decorated in red and green and silver. It's nothing huge, but there are candles on shelves and the table, wreathes on the doors, and two other doors. One is a sliding glass door on the opposite end that leads to a pier over the water, lined with icicle lights, and the other leads to a snowy outdoor area filled with mysteriously docile and friendly reindeer. Who knows? Maybe some of them can even fly.

There are probably a few people who only come for the food, and they won't be disappointed. There are two tables lined with party foods. Sweets, cheeses, sausage and mini sandwiches. No matter how much is taken they never seem to run out, and there's a smaller round table of drinks, including punch and eggnog.

Formal wear seems to be a given, even with the comfortable atmosphere, and anyone who didn't at least try to dress semi-formal will find themselves in something more festive. ]

[Papaku is sitting on one of the couches, enjoying a glass of eggnog. He doesn't seem to mind the deep blue sweater with a giant reindeer head on the front, but his daughter just might have a fit.]

[So far this has been an awful December for Riku, but the good thing about Christmas is that there's no way anything here could remind her of certain things. It's a safe haven, if you will. Sort of. She's standing on the pier, leaning her arms on the rail. She came prepared after four years, wearing a short black dress with a low back to make room for the bird-sized wings on her back. More than any other Christmas, she's just here to play bouncer.]

[There's the sound of boots crunching snow coming not far from the pier, and if she looks, she'll see Ansem in an elaborate suit, complete with tails and lace showing at his neck and wrists. Is she going to bounce him?]

[Kai has of course made an appearance at this party. he's dressed like he was getting ready to be all formal, with a nice pair of white slacks and proper shoes and everything, but over his crisp pale blue shirt, he's got a really awful vest. which he is totally wearing voluntarily, because come on. currently, he's idling by the door to the water, peering out at it curiously but not going through.]

[It's her first instinct, but she's interested in seeing where he's going, first. If he's looking her way he'll see an expression that is not at all suited for holiday spirit.]

[He looks like he's heading right on in to the party, but not before looking over at her and deliberately flashing a smirk.]

[The DR is being nicer to this Riku this Christmas, at least as far as the party is concerned. He's both his proper gender and in something he voluntarily picked to wear (though it did mysteriously appear at the end of his bed that morning, accompanied by a green jacket he 'lost' on the way to the party.) He's examining the reindeer, not sure how close he should get to them.]

[She doesn't react except to straighten up, square her shoulders, and summon her keyblade right in plain view. If she has to fight she will be the victor.]

[Red does not want to be here. He really, really doesn't. The DR dropped him in and refuses to let him out again, so he's sulking on a couch off in one corner as far away from everything as he can get, dressed in his regular clothing but with something festive replacing his normal jacket. And there's a Santa hat on his head. It kept reappearing every time he tossed it away, so he's given up on getting rid of it. He looks faintly flushed, his eyes a little glassy, but it's more like he's getting sick than drunk.]

[He's not going to stay outside and taunt her, other than a quick wink before slipping through the door. If she wants to keep an eye on him, she'll have to follow.]

[Of course she's following, that's the whole reason she's here. She's not even bothering to dismiss her keyblade yet.]

[He's gotten off easy this year, what with not being stuck with a serving tray. Riku just looks a little sleepy as he comes in, and is dressed in all white from his thinly pleated dress shirt and tie, down to his shoes. It's the slim tail that sticks out most, from a slit in the back of his pants that seem made for it. His ears have gone pointed too, though they're hidden under the white Santa's hat he's wearing. He perks up a little at seeing Kai already there.]

[Seriously? Of all places, she couldn't escape it here? You're a prick, dressing room. She'd even be able to ignore him, but it looks like he's about to explode at any minute now. She can't help but let her concern get the better of her, enough to slowly walk over. Who else is going to help him here?]

Red?

[He's leaning against the wall just inside, arms crossed and still smirking.]

Do you plan on chasing me around the whole night, Riku?

[here's a gorgeous young lady in a perfectly formal and seasonal dress, her hair pulled back in a complex braid. she'll probably check out the reindeer as soon as she knows they're there, but for now she's totally here for the food. she's got a plate of food in one hand and a cup of eggnog in the other, and seems to be looking for a place to sit. try not to hit on her too hard, either one of her dads might be here.]

[she's just got eggnog for now, and wouldn't have really chosen to bump into the version of her dad who's about her age, but she's too close to him to try and sidle away now, and what the hell, it's Christmas.]

Um. Hi.

[The answer is no one, no one else is going to help him here. He looks up at her, mouth curling in a brief sneer.]

I'm not here to blow anything up, don't worry.

[She frowns at him, but does release her keyblade so she can cross her arms. So unimpressed.]

No. I plan on making sure the people in here don't have to deal with a bad Christmas because of people like you.

[he smiles when he sees Riku, immediately making his way over. the lights on his vest are totally blinking.]

Hey. How are you doing?

[there's a moment of silence while he stares at her in surprise, but then he breaks into a wide smile and nods in greeting.]

Hi. You look pretty great!

[She doesn't even have it in her to look hurt from that. Her expression is passive and neutral, but the concern it had a minute ago is gone.]

You look like you're going to puke.

[Riku can't help but grin when he sees it.]

A little cold, but I'll live.

I'm tempted to.

[Right on one of the tables, maybe. He's holding it in though, because he's not in the mood for people bitching at him because he's ruining the atmosphere with his vomit or something.]

You'll warm up with some food in you, probably.

[he darts in for a quick hug, staying close after he pulls away. the holidays always get him feeling affectionate, damn all the good feelings drifting around.]

[She makes a face, then nods to the glass doors.]

If you want fresh air try that. Either one leads outdoors, and being a part of the festivities you should be able to go there.

[Riku knows there's no way he'd be here without force.]
