Now, hold still! Please--

[Ope. There it goes!

But what is "it"? Well, one of these fine specimens. Though Ienzo dashes after it, the little pest keeps wriggling out of his grasp whenever he comes close.

Oh, and it's not alone. Not by any means.

Behind him, Ienzo's got a small herd of these critters. Oh, and one of them has a crown! And another is all flowery.

These cat-dog-things follow Ienzo in pursuit of that pesky nightmare and, in the process, trample over him.

Lying face down on the floor, he lets out a groan.]

The things I do in the name of science...

[Care to give him a hand?]

[That ...might be the cutest stampede ever.
However, Xeha here is able to distract his curiosity - because, okay, those things are definitely new to him... - long enough to help out a sciencebro in pain.]

Well. They seem a little out of control...

[He crouches down, holding out a hand.]

Are you injured? Can you move?

Ah, thank you.

[Ienzo promptly takes that hand and pushes himself back to his feet. After adjusting his glasses--]

Other than perhaps a few bruises, I should be all right. These creatures aren't quite as ruthless as the Heartless.

[Except for that black one, agh.]

[He smiles.]

That's a relief. The worlds really don't need any more of those type, do they?

[His own universe has its own pet variety of troublesome creature, after all - he's wondered what else is out there, but hasn't particularly wanted to be beaten up by them.]

Certainly not, especially when you consider the Unversed and lesser Nobodies. These creatures, on the other hand...

[He turns to a nearby Meow Wow, which scurries up to the two and rolls onto its back, showing off its belly.]

They seem benevolent, with the exception of their black counterpart, though I'm not quite sure what they are, much less what they're capable of.

[D'aww. To tickle, or not to tickle... he ventures in cautiously.]

Ha - this one does, at least, doesn't it? It definitely seems worth the investigation to me. Have you seen any other varieties?

Thus far, I've identified roughly five sub-species. The blue and black seem to be the most prevalent. However, I've also encountered--

[...Hold on. He's gonna peer around the corner for a second--

Drat, they're gone.]

Well, I did have a few additional specimens, including one with a black coat and a crown and another with a more floral appearance. The latter I've encountered in both pink and white-- though the white one appeared highly aggressive compared to its more colorful counterpart.

The truly fascinating thing about these creatures, though, is this...

[He crouches down, scratching the Meow Wow behind the ears. Sparkles radiate from its body, and its eyes shift from yellow to green.]

While I'm not sure what this means, it would appear that treating them affectionately affects their eye color and disposition.

[The sparkle and eye colour change make him laugh. Charming creature, isn't it?]

Now, that's something I haven't seen before! It seems to appreciate it, anyway... have you noticed any patterns? Any additional effects?

... Ienzo? Need some help there, buddy?

Well, if it isn't too much to ask...

[One of those Meow Wows squeaks and bounces up to Ri. Hello, hello! You look friendly, hiii!]

I've found that the trickiest part is keeping them all within close proximity.

Well, it does seem to affect the way they engage in combat, but I haven't performed thorough enough testing to draw any concrete conclusions.

Rest assured, that is part of my plan, as well as investigating their origins and habits.

[Ri looks a bit startled by the friendliness of the Meow Wow, helping Ienzo stand up first]

Uh... they're pretty friendly for... for... what the hell are they?

[Smiling-]

I wouldn't have expected anything else.

That's what makes you a good scientist.

[Says this Kairi, who is wandering over in a cute new winter coat. A certain other Kairi is a short distance away, carrying a basket of supplies to make Christmas ornaments with.]

[...Awww, Kairi. Once Ienzo gets back to his feet, he smiles despite the circumstances and-- oh! Look, one of the Meow Wows is toddling right over to her with a yip.

He'll go ahead and wave at both his girls after he adjusts his glasses a bit.]

Why, thank you, Kairi. Your support certainly does help at times such as these.

That's what I'm hoping to uncover, actually.

[Awww. But pettings! Don't you just wanna pet the pudgy lil' thing? It seems to be butting its face against Ri's leg at any rate.

In any case, Ienzo gets back to his feet thanks to Ri's assistance, casting a glance down at the critter.]

Unfortunately, they aren't all friendly.

[He grins.]

After all, if we both do our share of investigation, I imagine we'll find ourselves with more data to work with.

[She moves away from Ienzo to happily pet one of them, giggling with happiness, and possibly mischief.]

I'd be more supportive if you'd let me help.

Are you trying to bribe me?

[He chuckles, watching the Meow Wow as it sparkles. ...Still strange.]

Though I suppose this is one experiment that's suitable for you. After all, you won't need to worry about chemicals or formulas.

I figured that, since you got trampled.

[Ri is still somewhat startled by the... cat-dog-thing, but will hold out a hand for sniffings, since that's what you're supposed to do first to introduce yourself right?]

I'd love to. [And an outright grin now.] Where should we start now, then?

If I was tryin' to bribe you I woulda brought something. Can I really help?

[She plops down on the ground to give the Meow Wow some real love and pettings, as the other Kairi catches up and gives Ienzo an amused and sympathetic look.]

Certainly. After all, I'd hate to disappoint your new friend here.

[Said Dream Eater wiggles and leans into the touch. Still sparkling, it makes little squeaks and yips.

As for the older Kairi, Ienzo looks to her with a smile.]

And you're welcome to participate as well.

They were just a bit... excited, I suppose.

[The lil' guy sniffs Ri's hand and then butts it with its head, tail wagging.]

The real dangerous ones come in black or white with solid red eyes.

Well, I suppose the most sensible course of action would be to round up the rest of these creatures. I had hoped to bring them to a secure environment-- perhaps a pen of some sort.

Makes sense to me. Do you have anything in mind? Or would just shutting them up in an enclosed area have to suffice? [He laughs slightly-] If we can get them through a door at all.

So if they look evil, they are evil? They don't look like Heartless or any kind of Nobody that I've ever seen.

[okay Ri will take that as a hint to begin the pettings]

[Lil' Kairi squeals, wrapping her arms around the Meow Wow. Or what she can reach, anyway.]

I think you two can handle it. But hey, you're stealing my arts and crafts partner.

I'll make it up to you later.

[He chuckles.]

Perhaps you could steal me as yet another craft partner.

I wouldn't mind that. Are you up for making ornaments and snowglobes?

From what I can tell, they aren't either. Their emblems certainly do differ, after all.

[But what those emblems mean... remains to be seen.]

Well, an enclosed area may work better than cages and pens for the time being. At least it would allow them a little more room to roam.

Certainly! After all, what better way to start off the season than to create our own decorations?

[Just don't mind if he gets a little too fussy over the details of his work. He's a dweeb.]

... I wonder if these guys are like Riku-pi's super gay bat.

[Xeha nods.]

I suppose we should get on with finding them, then! [He stretches, looks around-] They went that way, I believe.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

[Look, she'll even move so he can see what she's collected so far. There are BELLS.]

[...Snort. Oh, Kairi, you're so easily excitable.]

That's quite a large number of bells.

...Er. Pardon?

[Ri, what is this super gay bat you speak of?]

True. We wouldn't want them to get too far, after all.

[In fact, he'll go ahead and start herding the remaining DE's that way.]

Riku-pi. She's got a super gay bat. Its got this emblem too. Sort of. Mostly it's super gay.

[Another nod, and he'll start to move on himself, looking for any signs of cute fluffy things ahead.]

It's Christmas!

[That should explain everything.]

True, and bells are a large part of the symbolism... As are ribbons, holly, snow, and I suppose reindeer.

[He chuckles. Really, there's a lot they could do, thematically.]

And what, pray tell, makes it "super gay," Ri?

[There's a flash of red eyes from a half-opened closet. Something is watching, Xehanort.

Ienzo squints before glancing down at the Meow Wow spirit.]

I believe we'll require your assistance for this.

[Quietly, on spotting the eyes, Xeha steps over to a better hidden location and whispers across-]

It'll assist us in controlling its - family?

................... you just need to see it to understand, Ienzo.

[it's completely super gay, and Ri says this as a proud mostly-gay man-Replica-person-thing]

Reindeer are a big part! I wanna get some of the big light up ones I saw last year. Can we do that?

Ah, but of course! And perhaps we could even find a spare sled to fashion into a sleigh.

...I suppose I'll take your word for it.

[Then again, Ienzo still links the word gay with happy more than anything.]
