[Well. This is a predicament, indeed. Lost, the boy had tried to make some Heartless attack him. ...Except now they're chasing him. And they won't listen to a word he says. So the semi-familiar boy is running around, trying to ditch the Heartless chasing him--a nasty bunch of Neoshadows. There's too many for someone his age to fight, especially since he's still learning himself.]

[There's a scythe slicing through them, immediately behind Sora. If he's not looking where he's going, he'll end up running right into the portal forming ahead of him.]

[Yup, he's too busy looking back that he'll probably trip right over his own feet and fall through. In fact, that's exactly what he does. But he's used to the darkness--it's comforting to him! What's worrisome is where it may come out.]

[It'll dump him out clear across the DR, in the middle of a grassy park. Marluxia follows after, the scythe put away and looking much more composed.]

[He'll tumble out on his rear and then look around. ...At least he isn't being chased by Heartless anymore, though now he'll look utterly confused at Marluxia.]

What exactly were you trying to do? I knew your kind were reckless, but I seem to have underestimated you in that regard.

...They usually listen to me. I don't know why they didn't this time.

[Sora has yet to realized he has no authority without his Daddy and his darkness levels not high enough to actually be respected by any higher ranked Heartless.]

One can hardly expect one of those to listen to the equivalent of a Shadow.

Their king? The Heartless have no king. They are merely mindless pawns, down to the very last one of them.

You really are deluded, aren't you? That creature is little different from the rest of them. The Heartless, even that one, are hardly worth noting compared to a Nobody.

Because you're wrong! He took me in when no one else would, after my so-called parents left me! And he's been teaching me himself!

If his Heartless did any of that, then you can rest assured it was for his own reasons. What could he possibly have to teach you?

[A portal is easy. He'll try for something harder. With a bit of concentration, there's blue fire in his hand. and he'll hold it for a minute before it vanishes.]

And that's just with darkness. He's been teaching me math and science and he's started teaching me a few other languages, too. He's, uh... Homeschooling me.

I see. I wonder what his true self would make of this. It sounds like far too much effort than he'd normally bother with himself.

Xemnas. He used to be human, once. We all were. Then through science we shed our weaknesses and became better than we could have imagined.

...But the heart is what matters. A heart is what defines us.

Did I mention shedding the Heart? No, Xemnas shed his Heartless. The one you call the Seeker of Darkness.

And Heartless are the existence of the heart in its purest form, given shape by darkness.

Then tell me this: Why, if that is true, would the Heartless mindlessly toil to consume that which they no longer have? A Heartless is what's left of a weak Heart, corrupted by the Darkness.]

All things are driven to eat and reproduce. With a body no longer making it possible to eat the way a human would, they adapt.

[DUH, MARLUXIA.]

And they aren't mindless. I've played with them before and they've been my baby-sitters since before I can remember well.

I think you'll soon find that without dear old Daddy pulling the strings, they're less friendly than you think. They're parasites.

Humans are the parasites. We cling on to worlds and consume all resources, moving on when we destroy them. We'll gladly throw even our own children to so-called monsters to save ourselves. We treat each other badly, and spread like a virus across the worlds, upholding the ideals of the Light while treating any speck of Darkness as if it's the most terrible thing in the universe.

Is that what he told you? Ah, how easy it is to get a child to parrot the ideals of the teacher.

[vagus]

Part of it's my own observations. My own parents left me to the darkness because they didn't want my anymore. And I've been there when worlds fell. I've seen mother throw their infants to the Heartless in hopes of escape, fathers let go of the hands of their children on purpose so that they have someone to outrun...

Humans are really terrible things.

I can't disagree with you there. Still, what are you going to do now, without the Heartless trained to play nice?

[vagus]

I'll adapt. I can't use the Heartless, but there are still books and other things, aren't there?

I'm sure you'll find the library well enough on your own. As for other things.. Do you mean you can't carry the Keyblade?

[vagus]

No. I use this.

[And then he's calling up Soul Eater.]

How pathetic. I suspected as much when you gave that earlier display. You really are too weak of Heart to be of any importance.

[vagus]

They'd rather consume me because they think me easy prey because I'm a kid. And you aren't using a Keyblade, either.

[He can wield a Keyblade, he just doesn't know it yet.]

Obviously. I have no Heart. But I was still strong enough without it to continue on like this. I doubt you could say the same.

[vagus]

I don't care. I may not be as strong as Dad is yet, but I will be. He's been training me himself. I may be best with a sword, but I can use a polearm, too.

[Sort of. He's a novice to that.]

And hey. At least I have what defines existence.
