[shit seems to keep happening with these two in the summer, doesn't it? this year Hachibi has his own body again, but it's really his body this time, with the stripes and hooves and too goddamn many tails, and all those teeth. he and Axel are taking a walk through the DR today; rather, Hachibi's walking, and Axel's astride him. they're not really looking for anyone in particular, but if specific people are encountered, Hachibi would certainly love to talk to them.]

[Well, how about that? Would Riku be someone he would love to talk to? Here she is, emerging from a nearby room with both hands on the doorframe and a wide-eyed look on her face. Exactly how wary she is about this situation should be immediately obvious.]

[yes! he pulls up sharply when he sees her, gaze focused purely on her. Axel looks between the two of them for a moment, and then slides easily off of Hachibi's back, quietly excusing himself to continue down the hall to a kitchen or something so they can talk in peace. don't worry, Riku, he'll be back in a couple of minutes, and he'll bring you a glass of water for safety!]

Well. Was this anything like you were expecting?

[She looks confused about why Axel's leaving, and then suspicious. But she doesn't voice these questions aloud, and instead straightens up herself to move closer to him. Not by much, though.]

Well, you're fluffier.

[At least she can still manage deadpan in times like this.]

[he snorts and sits down, tails fanning out on the floor behind him.]

That's true enough. I don't actually know how much you knew about what my real form was like.

...the basics. Not much at all.

[For lack of anything better to do with them, she stuffs her hands in her pockets, head tiling up.]

[he's waiting for her to do something, anything, get mad at him, be scared, something. he knows full well that he's still not exactly on her good side, and that his real form really won't help with that, he's guessing.]

I figured.

[No, she's just looking at him, taking in his features. He's so huge, it's unnerving, but honestly? The fact that he doesn't have human form is still something that makes it easier. Seeing it especially. Riku knows what humans are like. As for fear, she refuses to be afraid of Hachibi after what happened between them. She'd be much more likely to get angry.

She counts the tails, then pauses when she gets to his legs.]

Are those hooves?

[at that he grins, teeth bared like a skull.]

Those who kept herding animals in the desert generally kept goats and sheep, and these made it very easy to leave tracks and make sounds like a lost lamb to call the human out of safety. Easy meal for an entire clan that way.

[obviously not something he's done in ages and ages, and now it's just something he finds amusing, that nature would even come up with something like that.]

[You creepy bastard. Riku's expression says that, too, but then she nods.]

I guess that makes sense, if that's what you're going for.

Not many of us had them. They make good weapons in battle, too.

[now he lays down, tails curling around to pile at his hip. his head's lower than hers now, and it may have seemed like a casual move, but it was very deliberate. he doesn't want to intimidate her.]

That's not surprising.

[They're hooves. She can tell what he's doing, and she waits a beat, just studying him and trying to figure out what he's thinking. The chances of that happening are about slim to none.]

... How's it feel?

[he studies her right back, considering the question.]

...almost wrong, after all this time. I hope this doesn't become an annual thing, I don't want to start feeling uncomfortable when I'm back where I belong because of times like these.

Mm. I'm scared to see what might happen next year.

[She way she says that is flat, though. She can't imagine anything too bad will happen, keeping in the theme.]

Maybe you'll turn into a kitten.

[that gets a flat look, though he's clearly not genuinely annoyed about it.]

Fuck you. That'd just let me sneak in places easier and lure innocent strangers into a false sense of security.

[What was that? You wanted a tiny child screaming? You got it!]

[wut. which direction is this screaming coming from. Hachibi's ears are going in that direction, regardless, and he fluffs up slightly in alarm (or interest????). Axel has no clue either, but spots Kairi before Hachibi does, and drops to the ground to go over to her.]

Hey, it's okay, he's not gonna hurt you.

[Here's someone you haven't seen in a while (either of you?). He was just heading from a kitchen with a popscicle, and has stopped to stare at Axel and Hachibi.]

Uhh...

[Look at that smug smirk.]

For what? Ear scritches?

[A good distance ahead of him, probably, because seeing Hachibi from the front is way more intimidating than a mass of fluffy tails. (And also, she would recognize him from that one time tinyxel had tails.) She covers both her mouth with both hands when Axel approaches, wide eyes on Hachibi. She's cooperating, though, and not in a complete panic.]

He's so big!

Yep. He knows who you are, too. He usually pays attention when I meet someone new, and then all the other times I see them if he likes them.

[oh okay, then they've probably talked about it at some other point when she came over to visit. Hachibi slowly comes over when Axel beckons to him, and lays down right in front of them, head down so he's not looming over Kairi.]

Oh. Uh. Hey.

[like this, Hachibi's probably radiating a vast amount of chakra, more than Riku's ever been around in his life, most likely. as they move closer, it's most likely like standing next to a roaring furnace, but with chakra instead. he doesn't look aggressive, just a little curious, but Axel's looking worried, slightly.]

[She sidles closer to Axel when Hachibi comes closer, more wary than actually frightened. She's seen plenty of extremely large Heartless that looked like animals, and it left a mark.]

You could eat me!

[He's noticed the chakra output, and is taking a few steps backward because of it. And because Hachibi is bigger than him.]

[No thank you. She gets enough hairballs at the full moon. But the smirk's gone now, and she looks away from his face, again studying his form.]

I'm going to believe you and assume I don't need to worry about you doing anything this time.
