reawakening

[once upon a time, there was a little boy who, despite the best efforts of those around him, always somehow managed to wind up fast asleep on the floor of the dressing room.]

[that seems like it was such a long time ago, though obviously some things never change – at least, the fact that Sora is hard enough of a sleeper that he didn't really notice that he made the sudden transition from his bed back home to... well, the floor of the dressing room... never changed. it has been long enough for him to grow accustomed to the sound of the ocean at night again, however, and the funny thing about white noise is that you only tend to notice it when it's not there.]

[so he might be stirring awake shortly. or he might just bury his face into his pillow – the only possession he's brought with him – and sleep on. it is kind of late, and he did have a pretty busy day.]

[Ri was in the middle of doing his daily chores when he catches a familiar scent; it hurts so much and he must be dreaming again, considering what happened to him recently... it's probably another cruel illusion that the DR is cooking up]

[it would be pretty cruel if illusions were also made to be tripped over... either way, it looks like Sora is going to attempt to cling to sleep for as long as he possibly can, uncomfortable floor or not. the pillow helps.]

[Ri staggers back when he nearly steps on 'bug, hitting the hallway wall hard; this is crazy because 'bug wouldn't be laying on the floor like this, he's been sent home and now Ri is going crazy, just like everyone said he did before]

[oops that got him – he blinks, lifts his head slowly, squints until he's sort of coherent... hi, Ri! have a horrible illusion regular old kid staring up at you inquisitively, and with a glint of concern over that loud banging noise he just heard.]

woo hoo!

[Ri visibly cringes back when he sees 'bug look at him, pressing further back against the wall and trying to inch away because any second now he might start going completely insane and vomiting Darkness and all the other assorted bad things that laid him up for a week]

[He's going to totally miss out on the awesome night adventures Riku's having. Or was having, until he discovered Sora. Now he's crouched down and very seriously licking his finger to stick in Sora's ear.]

[Whether he's awake at that point or not, a very gentle hand will be touching the back of his head. It's feather-light and very cautious.]

[:o fellow children should not be asleep out in the hallways. There are creepers about!

....Namine shouldn't be out at all herself this late, but she couldn't sleep and wanted to get some crayon from the art room.

She'll just be crouching next to Sora and gently trying to shake him awake.]

[Sora is just watching, entirely unassuming because he's still fighting off remnants of sleep. he rubs at an eye, yawns mightily, and finally speaks up, in that croaky, tiny voice one gets when just waking up.]

Where're you going?

[sorabug]

[nooooo, no wet willies!! not that Sora would argue, he's still snoozing comfortably.]

[being the snuggler that he is, Sora unconsciously starts scooting in the most logical direction that source of contact might be coming from- but he's still sure to take his pillow, too. the pillow is important.]

[sorabug]

[that gets a snort out of him, and he maybe clings to his pillow tighter, but not much else. keep trying!]

[Ri jerks back again, incidentally slamming his head against the wall, and then jerks forward to rub the spot]

Ow!

[sorabug]

[... oh dear. well, Sora knows exactly what to do in situations where it's late at night and scary! he pushes himself to his feet and toddles on over, extending a hand up to Ri.]

Let's go get some juice, OK? [it's strange, really. he's pretty sure he's dreaming right now, so instead of panicking about not being on the islands, he's calm as can be. besides, he knows he's in good company.]

[Ri crashes to his knees and holds out his hands to 'bug hesitantly, almost afraid to touch him; is it so bad to be crazy if he can see his little son again?]

... 'bug? 'bug, is t-that you...?

[sorabug]

[have the biggest beam be can muster!]

Uh huh! I fell asleep and now we're a family again! [because this js what happens while sleeping, right? you see your family again. he scoots closer to grab a hold of Ri's wrists. there is still juice to be had, after all.]

[like a flash, Ri scoops up 'bug into a massive hug, close to his chest and face buried in 'bug's hair; maybe there will be craziness and Darkness and insanity later but right now, his son feels so real and warm in his arms]

[Once the bearer of that hand seems certain he's not going to disappear or turn into dust or something, she moves it to slide both of her hands up under him. He can bring the pillow too, she's just going lift him up enough to cradle against her chest.]

[he is as real as he is capable of getting, and seems content to snuggle up tight, burying his own little face in Ri's arm. Sora is safe right where he is – and he'll stay that way.]

[he's serious about getting that juice, though.]

[sorabug]

[being lifted unsettled him a little, but he almost instantly calms again, choosing to rest his head against Riku rather than make use of his pillow. she's warmer and cozier to him, after all – he might even forget about the pillow entirely.]

[he is pretty dang comfortable as he is, though when they move again he'll likely blink up at her sleepily.]

[Ri will be cuddling his son close, not all that eager to let him go for anything]

You're my 'bug, right?

[sorabug]

Uh huh! And you're my Daddy!

... Right?

[windup_boytoy]

[there's actually tears in Ri's eyes now]

Right. I'll always be your Daddy.

[sorabug]

[ah, he always knew it!]

[so Sora is perfectly happy for a few more minutes in a tight hug, and would continue to be if he was actually aware that he'd been gone for so long, but soon enough he starts wiggling, wanting to be let down. he still has a mission to complete.]

[Ri feels like he's bursting with happiness, the Darkness that has been weighing him down disappearing completely but once 'bug starts to wiggle, Ri just holds on tighter, nearly panicking]
