[ what's that, in the corner of your eye?

a Heartless, disappearing into the floor, leaving behind its trademark inky black as it moves... but if you look closely, when it reemerges, it looks quite a bit more humanoid. in fact, it looks humanoid in every single way, except for the color and the eyes. in fact, this Heartless looks like a person quite a few people know...

upon being spotted, he'll do one of two things:

Keyblade present? Run. (Instead of vanish, because that would be too logical.)

Keyblade not visible? Wave brightly with a bright smile. ]

[So, what if there's a Riku just moving along, not really paying attention to where he's going because he's distracted? Huh?

He doesn't have a Keyblade out, but that lucky charm on his belt does help identify him compared to other Rikus.

Oh, and he's got some ice cream. Sea salt, to be precise.]

Soraless is not sure what to do! that's his bff right there, can he just--

no, it's probably not a good idea to just stand there.

(but he's standing there, fretting, as he tries to figure it out.)

... but he really misses Riku.

alright he's going to hide behind wall right here. no one will see him. he is the master of disguise. ]

[...Something dark and distinctly Heartlessy just went behind that wall.

Now, where has he seen that before? HRMMM...

Okay, yeah. He's going to go check it out. No escape!]

[ aaagh. Riku, could you just not do that. he's trying to be incognito! at least he's pretty weightless like this--it takes almost nothing to zoom past Riku.

he hopes he doesn't trip. ]

Okay, seriously. C'mon!

[Nope, sorry, bro. Making chase starting now!]

I know it's you.

[At least, he knows it has to be that same Heartless that's been helping him out. Like a ninja.]

[ nonononono. he can't let Riku see him like this, even if Yen Sid told him there's no way to get back to normal. he promised himself and his Conscience that he'd just stay in the background for a while!

he... really misses his best friend, but there's nothing he can really do!

... he screeches to a halt when he hears I know it's you. and with wide eyes he whips around.

how did Riku know? was his handwriting that obvious? ]

[Whatcha gonna do, Sora? 'cause Riku's totally stepping closer now. He's going to see that familiar spiky hair, along with all that darkness, those glowing eyes, and blatant Heartless traits.

At least he doesn't have his Keyblade out.

No, once he catches sight of Sora, he stops in his tracks. His eyes widen for a split second before he squints, places his hands on his hips, and leans forward.]

Man, it figures.

[Not the horrified reaction you were expecting? He's acting pretty casual, all things considered.]

[ ... what?

he's not doing ... anything that Sora would've expected. granted, Sora didn't expect Riku to actually try to destroy him, but--it was always a possibility he wouldn't realize that it was Sora and not an anti-him or... something. he warily steps closer, body ducking down a little. ]

[It's... nice to see actual confirmation. He never did see more than a blur back in Hollow Bastion and End of the World. Then there were those cryptic notes...

He lets out a sigh, slowly approaching his friend. Still no weapon. That has to be a good sign, right?]

Sora.

[ when he finally gets to a full stop, Sora doesn't stay upright, but rather, a little hunched over. he doesn't speak--well, can't, not that Riku knows that. but his chin tilts slightly up when his name's spoken. ]

Hey, it's okay.

[When he gets close enough, he'll crouch down, so he's a little more level with Sora.]

[ can Heartless cry? because Sora's getting pretty close to tearing up, and once he's close enough, he grabs onto Riku tightly in a hug.

uh, he's not letting go for a while. ]

[No, that's totally cool. Riku doesn't even hesitate to return the favor because, darn it, he's missed Sora so much. And to think that after all that worrying over his Nobody, his Heartless was still...

He remembers. He's still himself.

After searching for so long, he's found his best friend.]

[ and after having to stand back and watch Riku from the shadows, he can finally be around his best friend again. it's such a relief...

he squeezes Riku a little tighter. ]

...?!

[And Roxas just stares back at that smile.

Really, he's not sure what to think because 1) the Heartless looks awfully familiar and 2) this is...something new.

However, even though Sora has his immediate and complete attention, Roxas isn't sure whether moving or not would make him disappear.]

[ just smile and wave.

it doesn't look like he's attacking, anyway... maybe he can try to make friends this way? he approaches carefully, step by baby step. ]

... [Wow, it's actually moving? This wasn't some sort of glitch, right? He wouldn't be able to handle another one of those if this guy was really one, but the thought of this sort of encounter being dangerous doesn't phase him.

Instead, Roxas beams back after Sora takes a few more steps without his appearance switching or the general environment starting to deteriorate.]

H-hey. [Please don't glitchpleasedon'tglitchpleasedon'tdisappear.] I haven't seen you around before. What's your name?

[ talking. right, talking--Sora flusters as he looks around, trying to see if there's a scrap sheet of paper or anything he can draw on--

nope.

guh, that's frustrating. at least he has claws, though--he hurries over to a wall and scratches out 'Sora' slowly, making sure the curves and straight lines are refined. ]

[No, must not cry. He's supposed to be the tough guy here. He doesn't wanna look like a sap around Sora, darn it.

But really, he's having an overload of feelings right now. This is what happens when he's left without his best bro, man.]

...Man, wait until Kairi hears about this.

[...That is sure a Heartless. That is sure a...Sora-shaped Heartless. What is this sorcery? This Riku's on guard when he spots the Heartless, watching it warily. His keyblade's not out yet, unless it attacks.]

[...What is this madness.

No, seriously, what is he looking at here. Poor ~~Ventus~~ "Sora" looks completely perplexed. Pardon his staring.]

[ kairi?

Kairi! he pulls away quick, alarmed, mouth moving while nothing comes out.

then he stops and flusters, trying to look around for a piece of paper. ]

[ hm.

Sora knows his best friend when he sees him. but there's still something wrong with him, so he ventures closer, curious. ]

[Well...that's strange? Though, if it was a glitch, that would make sense too. Roxas blinks as he follows after Sora and watches him scratch into the wall, but there's a sudden intake of breath he can't stop when the last letter is carved out.]

S-Sora?! [His gaze switches between the wall and the Heartless for a moment before he presses a hand to his mouth as he takes a deep breath. No, this couldn't be right. Sure, the kid looked like Sora from his dreams, but he was way too different.]

Are...you sure? [Yes, Roxas has become skeptical of everything now.]

[ uh what.

it's him! but not him. Sora has no reservations as he reaches over to poke him in the chest, wondering how this is even possible. didn't Yen Sid say he'd stay a Heartless forever? how come his body's right there? ]
