[ A light rain has just run its course in this part of the DR. Now the sky is clear, the sun is shining, and Riku's sitting on the steps of a random building, clothes damp, with a loose jacket being the only protection for her bandaged side. Since her confrontation with Hachibi two weeks ago, she hasn't been feeling too great. True, part of that was him nearly taking a chunk out of her ribcage. But it's really Red dying, and still not coming back, that has her so down. Two weeks and counting.

She's finally cut her hair, at least, to get rid of the burnt and torn places from the fight. Instead of being down to her mid-back, it's now only a few inches past her shoulders. Now she's just trying to find a way to busy herself. Apparently this is coming out in the form of chalk drawings all across the dry parts of the road.

She has a bucket full of the stuff if anyone would like to join her. ]

[She looks up from her, ah, artistic endeavors.]

Hey.

[he'll be taking a seat next to you, looking a bit worried]

Are you doing okay?

[What, because she's playing with chalk? She shrugs one shoulder, pulling her arm up to rest her chin in her hand.]

Yeah, I'm fine.

[Well, that haircut makes this Riku feel a lot more girly. Also, hi, he's going to grab a piece of chalk from the bucket and join in the artses. Or just mentally critique them.]

[She's not the best artist! She can do fairly realistic and accurate shapes and outlines, but details are lost on her. She's a step above stick figures, though. There's an outline of a bat near her, and a well-done paopu tree on the other side.

Also, excuse me for getting my hair set on fire.]

[She probably will sense him as he gets close, but surprise! There is a Roxas invading her personal space bubble for a hug from behind.]

[She does sense him, and that's the only reason she doesn't jump. She does freeze in place, though, and then turn to look at him over her shoulder as best she can.]

Roxas?

[He's careful in giving her that little squeeze, since he'll have seen her with the bandages in the past couple of weeks.]

You looked sad, so I wanted you to know you're not alone.

[She appreciates that very much. But her eyebrows go up in surprise when he speaks. Eventually she forces a small smile for him.]

Thanks, Roxas.

[When he pulls back it's just to plop down beside her, letting his leg stretch out a little in front of him because he can't crouch on it to hug her for as long as he thinks she needs one. He still has his crutch, but it's pushed out of the way behind them for now.]

What is it you're doing?

Drawing with chalk?

[She holds the piece she's got up -- it's one of the thick kind, and a bright blue. You do know what chalk is, right, Roxas?]

[He can draw, kinda! He can draw better than his Sora, at least. There is a chocobo joining the bat on the ground a little ways away...at least that's what he intends it to be.

You're excused.]

You're better than I am.

[He doesn't even know how to read or write. The only writing utensils he'll have seen from his time were simple inks and only used by the nuns he grew up around for transcribing things much too important to trust rambunctious boys to be near. No, he's looking at her chalk quite curiously, even reaching out to touch it and rub his fingers together when he gets blue on them.]

I thought you were trying to paint with rocks before I got closer. How did you make it blue?

[Not many people draw worse than Sora, it's true. She can mostly recognize it for a chocobo, I'm sure!]

Not much.

[She thought he might have seen kids nearby drawing with it over the summer or something. But she's not really that surprised. She shakes her head.]

It's chalk. It's kind of like paint, only powder that's been pressed into shapes.

[She reaches into the bucket nearby and hands him one. It's yellow!]

Try it.

[Paint he definitely knows, at least. Even if he wasn't allowed to use it, either. He does know about wax tablets and musical notes though! He'll be taking that bit of chalk and following her suggestion by making a few marks on the ground.]

Ooh. If it's powder, that means it washes away in the rain, right?

Yeah. Easily. But I don't think it's going to rain again any time soon.

[She figured even if he didn't recognize anything else, he'd recognize paint. She reaches down to draw a flower near his foot.]

[His marks are going to turn into musical doodles, just watch. It's going to slowly circle her flower.]

That means a lot of people will see these, right?

[Until he drags his hand across the bird because lol left-handed drawing.]

I'm assuming no one's judging them.

[He's moving over a few inches and...actually just tapping the pavement with the piece of chalk. What to draw?]

What made you decide to go draw on the street?

[She doesn't mind that.]

[She shakes her head at his first comment, and shrugs at the question.]

Found the chalk up the steps. It's not like I have anything better to do.

[His next attempt will be to draw a cat. He hasn't seen very many here at all, but the few he did see had his undivided attention. Roxas saw many more dogs growing up than cats. This one looks awkward and little better than a stick figure.]

We should draw things that make us happy. Then maybe when other people see them, maybe they'll feel happier too.

[It's still a cat! If he's having fun then that's what really matters. She'll put a round little bird next to it.]

...sounds like a nice idea.

[Guess who the first actual person he draws is. Go on, guess. It looks like something Sora would do, but only because he isn't used to drawing. The girl he's working on even has a giant key she's holding up over her head.]

I talked to a really old Ri. Did you know hearts can attack? He said his family helped him fix it.
