[on a small slope down to the beach there is a new tree. it appears to be a very large paopu tree, not nearly as slanted as the one most former Destiny Islands residents may be familiar with. its massive fronds hang halfway down the tree in a deep green curtain, half hiding a single fruit swaying gently from a stem at the top. beneath this tree is a Riku in his late teens, napping against the trunk. he's dressed in the basic DI high school uniform, and his hair, if one stares long enough, seems to have a slight green tint to it.]

(ooc: people are free to try climbing the tree- but if anyone attempts to grab that fruit, they'll be in a for a nasty surprise from an angry 'ku. also, the paopu in the picture isn't small, the tree's just that big. it's a bit old.)

[Challenge accepted! There is a Sora starting to climb the tree, having spotted the paopu already. A swimsuit top and shorts aren't exactly the best attire for tree-climbing, but who cares?]

[she probably won't notice the Riku down below cracking open an eye to watch her. he seems pretty calm, though the closer she gets to the fruit, the crankier he seems to get...]

[Nope, she doesn't. She's too focused on trying not to fall off the tree. Which isn't working too well, because she's trying to hold on with one arm and reach for the fruit with the other--it's just a couple inches out of her arm's reach.]

[unfortunately for her, as soon as her hand gets anywhere near that fruit, a vine will be shooting out from among the base of the leaves to wrap around her wrist, pulling her from the tree to throw her rather violently toward the ground. luckily, the spot it chose to throw her down at seems to be mysteriously cushioned, the grass there extra thick.

Riku has closed his eyes again to feign sleep.]

[Riku's in an incredibly bright outfit of orange shorts and yellow shirt today, colors he picked out himself. He seems to be staring from the stuffed paopu in his hand to the one hiding in that tree. He's noticed Riku, but the tree is much more interesting.]

[DLSKDJF! She yelps when the vine grabs her, nearly falling before it throws her. She's not unused to similar things happening though, and almost manages to right herself before landing, ending up on her butt in the grass.]

Oww. Paopu trees aren't supposed to do that...

[She's gonna attempt to climb it again! Or actually just climb partway up and stare at the paoupu while thinking of a new plan.]

[after a few minutes of silence, he's going to open his eyes and stare curiously at the child. he's not terribly surprised by the likeness to himself, having been here about a day already while looking for a good place to set his tree.]

[there's soft laughter from below, though Riku's head is still lowered in 'sleep.' she won't be able to see his smile, but it's definitely there.]

[He is slowly wandering closer to the tree, all of his attention on it. At one point he holds up his stuffed paopu as though to compare. The one in the tree seems to be superior, as soon after the stuffed one is dropped to the ground in favor of attempting to scale the bark on the opposite side of Riku.]

[She hears that laughter, and initially thinks it's coming from the tree itself. She looks at the leaves, confused, then the trunk, and then finally spots the Riku down below.]

...Hey, is that you doing that?

[this Riku will be shifting to keep a better eye on the kid. he doubts he'll make it to the fruit, but should he fall there will be someone there to at least catch him.]

Doing what?

[laughing? because yes, it was, though now he's just smiling in obvious amusement.]

Laughing at me.

[Have a pout to counter your smile, Riku.]

[After the first failure that left him sliding down the trunk, he may be doing better than expected. It is a very determined shimmy he's got going on here, his face showing his determination.]

Sorry.

[he doesn't sound it.]

It's not every day one sees someone being tossed from a tree, by a tree.

[he keeps watching, and though he seems relaxed, he's quite ready to catch him should it become necessary. even if the kid actually makes it there, he at least won't be as rough with him as he was with Sora.]

[He'll make it just a little further before sliding back down, tumbling back in the grass with a grunt. When he sits up he spots Riku watching him, and an idea lights up in his mind.]

Mister Riku, can you help me?

That depends. What do you want me to help you do?

[if it's reaching the paopu, the answer will be no.]

[But.]

I wanna climb the tree!

Why do you want to climb it?

[he's standing up to move over to him, at least.]

[He is undaunted by that constipated expression.]

So I can get to the paopu!

No.

[well isn't he nice.]

But I want to see it!

[He doesn't understand why Riku won't help.]

[Okay, she has to admit that's kinda funny. Except when it's actually happening to her.]

I didn't think it would. The one at home never did that.

Lucky! A real life paopu tree!

[the teenage girl will be dashing towards the tree, whipping her cellphone out to take pictures... especially of that paopu fruit there]
