[with all the destruction and fighting, there is a certain room that reeks of blood that has been left unattended. indeed, a wall of the room itself had collapsed and left the contents exposed to any who happened to have been walking through the hall on the other side.

that room is now empty, with naught but Zexion here standing amidst the rubble. there's a large scroll strapped to his back, and still-warm blood is dripping from the kunai in his hand. there's a certain scent here, one that he knows.]

[if Zexion decides to explore, there is someone with Axel's scent all over him a couple hallways down, keeping an eye out for leftover Heartless--]

[he's more interested in investigating the room at the moment, but if Kai were attempting to keep any sort of wards up over the room, chances are he'll have noticed them breached. it's more likely that Axel will have noticed first, however.

he's flicking the blood off his kunai before putting it away, his head craning slowly to the side to pop his neck as his eyes trail over the walls, then the ceiling.]

How intriguing.

[it wasn't this Kai that was keeping wards, but he does notice something Light-based that's been broken and slowly makes his way to that hallway, Keyblade out.]

[he'll find Zexion stepping out of the hole in the wall where a part of the room had crumbled away, straightening with the scroll still tied tightly to his back. there's no change in his expression when he sees Kai, nothing to give away that he can tell the scents in the room are also all over the person in front of him.]

[he looks... very surprised to see someone in attire he actually sort of recognizes, and then he looks worried, taking a step back. the Organization is pretty much never good, and Kai knows that the ones from Axel's world can be exceptionally dangerous.]

[he takes that reaction in stride, his expression unchanging as he turns to face Kai fully. he doesn't sound angry or upset in any way, or even challenging. he's actually quite calm, in a cold sort of way.]

You recognize me. How is that, I wonder?

Because you're not the first you to come here.

[which is true enough, really. he's seen more than one Zexion before.]

It's more than that, isn't it?

[he's advancing on Kai slowly now, not even glancing at the Keyblade. in fact, his eyes never leave Kai's.]

[he shakes his head in denial, taking a step, and then another, back. he's not looking at Zexion now, the stare making him feel far too uneasy.]

It's not.

It would be better to tell the truth, Kai.

[the denial is being ignored almost as much as the Keyblade. for every step back that Kai takes, Zexion takes another step closer.]

[he visibly starts at hearing his name, his eyes going wide and snapping back to Zexion.]

How--

It isn't so very hard to figure out, once you've been here long enough to pick up the particulars of this place. Though if I'm not mistaken, it's usually Kairi, is it not?

[he's still advancing, though he isn't going for any weapons. his eyes haven't lost any of their intensity, looking into Kai's as if locking their stare will let him into Kai's innermost thoughts.]

[Kai will keep backing up until he hits a wall, at which point he curses inwardly.]

It is. So what?

Kairi doesn't usually smell like Axel. Especially one that is so... familiar to me, you could say.

[but he already has the answer that Kai isn't simply the spawn of an Axel, or even a different version of Axel himself.]

Axel? You mean that tall guy with the spiky red hair?

[he's pretty good at sounding confused. but considering how much of that scent is on him, that ring on his finger might be a good hint.]

[he doesn't care about the ring. all he cares about is why the scent of Axel he'd picked up from the room he'd been in is all over this boy, and why he would try to hide it. he's in Kai's personal space now, all but pressing him up against the wall with sheer intimidating presence alone.]

I didn't think you were a stupid person, but if you continue this charade, my opinion may be forced to change.

Okay, fine. So what if I smell like him?

[the confused look disappears, replaced by defiance. it's not like he'd tell Zexion where Axel is. and if nothing else, he could at least send Nami a telepathic note about this whole mess, if he... doesn't make it out of it for whatever reason.]

Why are you trying to protect him?

I'm sure you wouldn't understand.

[it's said entirely truthful; he really doesn't think Zexion would understand what's going on.]

Ah. Friendship, perhaps? Surely he hasn't told you much about himself if that's the case.

You'd be surprised. He's a pretty nice guy.

Until the betrayal comes. With him, it is inevitable.

[he shakes his head vehemently.]

You don't know him.

Oh, but I do. Very. Intimately.

[it's a calculated remark, with a secretive little smile tugging at his lips.]

[Kai grits his teeth, eyes narrowing.]

I doubt it.
