[those who may be hurt by Light will want to avoid the art room tonight, perhaps. those who are drawn to it, whether it is because of the comfort it provides, simple curiosity, or something more sinister will find Kai painting. he doesn't seem entirely there, if one were to look at his eyes; indeed, they're glazed over, glowing faintly with the Light that's brimming just under his skin. the canvas in front of him is simply colour, pastels contrasting with deep purples, blues, blacks. his movements are eerily fluid, no hints of any pausing between strokes.]

[Riku's going to be slipping into the room quietly, a basket of food ready for when Kai snaps out of it. he figures with that much energy going around, Kai is bound to be hungry.]

[seasides]

[he's going to come out of this absolutely starving, so good call, Riku! it's not visible, but he may feel a "touch" of Light when he gets closer, almost like a greeting. Kai hasn't seemed to notice him at all, however, and continues to paint.]

[the touch startles him a little at first, before he sighs and relaxes some, coming closer to see what it is that Kai's doing. he's looking rather worn, with dark circles under his eyes.]

[seasides]

[if he's feeling just as worn, he can expect Light to be curling around him as a soothing warmth, trying to comfort him. Kai's slowly being pulled out of whatever this is by Riku's presence, the brush strokes slowing and becoming less steady and purposeful.]

[he is, not having been able to sleep for very long lately. rather than disturb Kai or Axel, Riku's taken to slipping from the room to the kitchen. he takes a seat kneeling close to Kai, the Light lulling him into relaxing his guard and making his eyes close halfway.]

[eventually, the brush will be set down and Kai will be slowly kneeling down next to Riku, resting his forehead on the other's shoulder. his eyes aren't really glazed anymore, but they've still got a faint glow to them.]

What's wrong?

[that makes Riku start out of his half-daze, a brief flash of guilt crossing his face before he nudges the basket closer to Kai, a small attempt at changing the subject.]

I brought you something to eat.

[seasides]

[he smiles briefly and raises his head, thankful. he's not really moving away, instead just making himself comfy so he can take a peek into the basket. he'll let the subject be changed for now.]

[it's just a small basket, with enough food in it for one very hungry person, all neatly wrapped since he hadn't known how long Kai would be in a meditative state. a very generously stacked sandwich, some fruit, a slice of pumpkin pie as well as a chunk of banana bread, and two bottles of different juices.]

[Avani was on her way in here to see if she could find a sketchbook for her art lessons with Rikka, but she stops and looks at Kai with a tilt of her head. She rubs her arm when she feels all the Light and steps further in.]

Hey Kai.

[There are indeed many who are drawn to it, often for combined, conflicting reasons. Riku's one of them, which is why she hesitates at the door, wanting to go inside, but very wary at the same time.]

...Share with me?

[he could probably eat it all, but he's feeling very... affectionate right now. it's a problem when all his Light comes up like this, and it's not for battle.]

[seasides]

[Kai stops in the middle of a brush stroke, head turning her way slowly. there's a faint smile, his Light already starting to fade back to normal.]

Hi.

[seasides]

[unseen Light reaches out to her in a hesitant but reassuring touch; this isn't anything Riku needs to fear. if Kai's noticed her presence, he isn't reacting; he hasn't faltered in his art at all.]

[dawnrise]

[Her first instinct is to pull away from it, but the part that's more Riku makes her stay put, eying Kai with slight worry. What's going on now?]

[seasides]

[the Light will brush against her a little longer before retreating, and Kai will very slowly start coming out of whatever it is that's happening.]

[dawnrise]

[She lets loose a breath she wasn't aware she'd been holding, and steps inside the room, slowly making her way over.]

[seasides]

[it may be a good minute or two before he finally looks to her, head tilting slightly as he smiles.]

Hi, Riku.

[dawnrise]

Hey.

[She stops a couple feet away, looking... well, concerned, most of all, but still a little wary.]

What happened?

[seasides]

I needed an... outlet.

[he glances at the painting, with its lights and darks meshing together seamlessly.]

[dawnrise]

... Are you okay?

[She looks pretty worried about him from here.]

[seasides]

Yeah, I'm fine.

[he smiles, and he does look fine, aside from the faint glow to his eyes still.]

Promise. I'm just not too good at writing, so I thought I'd try and get my thoughts out some other way. I didn't expect that to happen.

[dawnrise]

[Well, good. She didn't immediately think something necessarily bad had happened to him, it's just... well, it's overwhelming. To her senses, too, which is why she keeps looking at him from the side, from the corners of her eyes, like she's looking at the sun. But Riku just shrugs.]

If it works, then go ahead.

[seasides]

It's a little disconcerting.

[he laughs and shakes his head, the Light sinking back down into him.]

I kind of... stop paying attention to everything.

[dawnrise]

Is that a bad thing?

[I mean, hell, it helps. And it's only temporary, right?]
