[Kairi is a pretty good swimmer, but she's no Olympian. Since the flood engulfed most of the Dressing Room, leaving this gigantic pool where dry rooms had once been, Kairi has spent most of her time swimming continuously. She's caught breaks where toppled furniture lies near enough to the surface of the water that she can hang onto it, but as the rain continues to pour, these resting places have become few and far between. Her arms and legs ache. Come to think of it, her entire body is sore. If the water ever drains, Kairi will probably be unveiled having built up a bit of muscle.

But she looks anything but strong now. Her skin is waterlogged, and her fingers and toes are wrinkled. Although she pulled up her hood long ago to keep the rain from moving her hair into her eyes, her hair splays out around her head and her wet bangs have been pushed back to keep her vision clear. Not that there's too much to see now. There's just water. Water everywhere.

She stops to tread water, looking around herself to figure out where she should be swimming to. As her eyes travel down along the wall, darkness overtakes them. She opens her eyes wider in hopes of regaining her vision, but it's no use. Although color and light returns with a pounding headache, her head is spinning and she's disoriented. Her dizziness makes he close her eyes. Her body takes a dangerous dip, and the rest comes naturally. Kairi's sinking, leaving a trail of air bubbles floating up to the water's surface.]

[If she's conscious enough to know what's going on around her, she will feel the arms wrapping around her middle and swimming her back up to the surface quickly. Then she's being dragged backwards, still secure in her lifegaurd's arms.]

Just hang in there, Kairi!

[It's a girl's voice- a Namine's as a matter of fact. Though the long, scaly tail where her two legs should be is a pretty obvious indicator that it isn't the Namine she would know.]

[All Kairi knows is that she feels weightless, yet she's falling. Down, down, deeper and deeper. She's not sure when down becomes up, but she's vaguely aware of the faint sensation around her middle. Her eyes are too heavy to open, and as much as she wills her limbs to move, they remain limp. It feels like she's been misplaced, like she's still connected to her body by a thin thread that might break at any given moment. Part of Kairi is just waiting for the disconnect, but it doesn't come. Instead, water's draining out of her ears and making a familiar voice sound like a whisper.

Naminé?

She doesn't know why, but her lips don't move. What she does know, however, is that there's a raw burning in her throat. Suddenly, someone's coughing and sputtering. It takes Kairi a minute to realize that someone is her, and at this realization, it feels a lot like she just crashed down into her body again.]

[Namine brings her up to a higher floor and lays her down on it. If Kairi needs CPR, she knows how to do it, but for right now, Namine is just checking her over for a sign of injury.]

Kairi? Can you hear me?

[Demyx was searching for some canned foods in one of the kitchens to feed the group he's been staying with here in the DR. He was actualy on his way back with them safely in a plastic bag that he's got sitting on a door he's riding through the water. He just barely caught sight of you sinking under out of the corner of his eye. He isn't sure who it is, but he plunges in and swims your way, diving under when he gets to about the point where you went down. He reaches out as he comes through the water towards you, grabbing your wrist. And then he's pulling you up towards the surface.]

[She's getting a good bit of the inhaled water out of her lungs just by coughing it up. With the excess fluid out, she gasps to make up for the lack of air for the past minute or so. Oxygen does wonders for her. The color returns to her face, and she curls her fingers into her palms, forming fists on either side of her hips. While she's still weak from the experience, she doesn't appear to be injured. Her eyelashes flutter for several seconds before she manages to slowly open her eyes.]

Naminé...

[If she still has that long scaly tail, Kairi hasn't noticed it just yet. Her eyes are resting on the girl's face.]

What happened?

[She's lost all sense of direction. Despite being pulled back up towards the water's surface, Kairi thinks she must be plunging deeper into the depths. There's no more reason that makes her believe she ought to care which way she's going either. This Princess of Heart is agonizingly still.]

[She does! And it will stay that way because she wasn't wearing a swimsuit when she changed, sooo >>; But the spell is a good excuse not to anyways.]

I'm not sure, I just saw you go under. You probably just fainted from overworking yourself.

Oh.

[Kairi closes her eyes, swallowing and lifting her hand to massage the bottom of her throat because it still feels raw. She could've drowned today. She could have drowned. Kairi presses her palms to the floor, helping herself sit upright before opening her eyes again to look at the blonde.]

Thank you, Naminé. That's twice that you've rescued me—

[Her eyes have landed on Naminé's tail, a tell-tale sign that she is not hers. She hasn't seen many Naminés since she arrived to the Dressing Room, but she's positive that she's never seen one with a tail. Kairi tries not to stare, forcing her eyes back up to meet those of the girl.]

Are you a mermaid?

[When he breaks the surface, he has to get his arms around your waist to pull your head above water. He starts pulling you towards a passing dresser--the door he'd been on is already gone. He can't tell if she's concious or not.] Are you okay?

[She laughs a bit, tail slapping against the water.]

Not quite... technically, I'm a siren. But I have different forms.

[But Kairi's limp in his arms. She doesn't seem be so much as breathing now.]

[Recognition flashes across her face.]

You must be Riku's girlfriend.

[She gives her a weak smile.]

[She looks surprised by that!]

Oh, you're that Kairi? Well, not to say it isn't nice to meet you, but the circumstances could have been better.

[Namine returns the smile.]

[He works to push Kairi atop the dresser, out of the water. Once she's on the dresser he heaves himself up alonside her, hoping it doesn't tip over--it's rocking worryingly under their weight. He tilts her head back and leans in, listening to see if she's breathing or not. If she isn't he's ready to give CPR.]

[She's somewhat surprised herself. Do most Kairis not know that Riku is dating Naminé? Kairi's smile doesn't falter.]

I guess I'm "that Kairi." Heh. Now I owe the both of you.

[There's beginning to be a theme between these two. Their meetings are always awkward. She's still for another moment, not breathing, and then a sudden attempt to inhale sends her into a coughing fit when only the water in her throat is breathed in.]

I'm sorry, it's just that he's mentioned you a lot recently.

[At the 'owing' bit, she just shakes her head.]

Don't even think twice about it, that's what friends do.

[He leans back and pulls her into a sitting position, patting her on the back, gently.] There we go. Get it all up.

[She briefly wonders why that is. Maybe she's that Kairi who somehow talked Riku into agreeing to help her redecorate her room, or maybe she's that Kairi who had a pretty philosophical talk with Riku not too long ago. Either way, now she's that Kairi who wrings out her hair in front of the new friend she's made as if they've always known each other.]

My Naminé saved me once, too. I feel like I never really got the chance to get to know her... But I hope she was a lot like you.

[Somebody's pulling on her, she realizes, and she opens her eyes, still coughing because she doesn't know what else could possibly get the water out of her airway. She catches sight of him, not remembering her last encounter with him until he talks to her. She feels comfortable enough to finish coughing before addressing him.]

Demyx? Did I...? What happened?

I don't feel any different than other Namines... though I don't think I'm as shy.

[Kairi watches her curiously.]

Riku told me you're not a Nobody.

Not sure, but I think you might have passed out.

[He stops patting her on the back, but his hand is still there, between her shoulder blades. He's waiting until he's sure she's steady enough, because the dresser is still rocking pretty badly.]

Are you okay now?

No, I'm not. I'm not from a world like yours.

[She looks mildly embarrassed, but mostly just appreciative. Kairi actually has a pretty good sense of balance, so although the ~~boat~~ dresser is rocking, she's not very disturbed by it. ~~i'm on a boat i'm on a boat take a good hard look at the motherfucking boat—~~]

I think I will be. I'm not sure what would have happened if you hadn't seen me. Thank you.

He said you're a siren.

[And that would definitely explain the fishy tail.]

Yeah, I am.

[She tilts her head.]

Do you sing, then?

[She nods.]

All the time. I have to be careful though. I tend to lead people into bad situations if I go around singing without paying attention.

[He lowers his hand and smiles.] Just be more careful, okay? You might wanna get up to the next floor. For now all the water is draining down here so it's mostly dry up there right now. Actualy, if you'd like you can come with me to the music room. We've got a fire going so we can dry out. And Sora's got blankets and towels he grabbed before the flooding got too bad.

Do you mean that the people who hear you sing go off on their own and get into trouble or that they follow you?

[She almost teases Naminé about singing in the shower, but then she remembers Riku and her share a room. Suddenly the joke isn't innocent anymore.]

[Nods.]

I will be... And I'd like to go with you. How do we get there?

[She knows swimming is the most likely answer, but she silently prays it isn't.]

It's not far. Just a bit down that way. [He points down the hallway.] It's in the opposite direction of the current, but it's not a problem. [Your traveling with the guy who can control water, Kairi.] Just hang on, okay?

Well, I like to sing in the ocean room a lot. Sometimes I don't realize what it is I'm singing and--

[She frowns.]

I try to stick to songs that have nothing to do with water now.

[Kairi looks a bit worried about that statement.]

So the stories about sirens are true?

[Blink.]

To... the dresser?

[Or you?]

Umm... yeah? [Blinks back.] If you can. There should be something you can get a hold on.

[She gives him a small smile, tired but genuine, as she takes hold of the top of the dresser.]

Is this good?

[He nods and the starts to concentrate. You won't see anything flashy happen, but the dresser starts to move--against the current and at a decent speed.]

[She's surprised when the dresser begins to move on its own.]

How are you doing this?

[He grins.] I've got control over water. A handy thing to have in this situation, huh?

[She nods, frowning slightly.]

Most of them. But I don't hurt people like the others. I don't like to.
