[in one of the garden rooms, it looks like someone decided to be an ass and completely trash a good portion of it. Kai is seated on a patch of fresh grass, surrounded by burnt and torn plants, paintbrush in hand. his right hand, what he normally uses, is in his lap. the paintbrush is in his left hand and he's concentrating rather hard on restoring the ruined flowers in front of him. it's difficult, as he's still getting used to using the "wrong" hand, and he fails to get the technique right a number of times before a couple of the flowers straighten weakly and attempts to bloom.]

[oh look, you've caught someone in her element- Aerith is crouched down on the other side of the room, carefully brushing the ashes of a plant away from a patch of soil. she glances at Kai once she notices him, and is curious about the paintbrush, but won't ask about it. yet.]

[he's content to work in quiet right now, wanting to keep all his concentration on helping restore the flowers. he hadn't expected it to be so hard to make a damn circle when using the wrong hand...]

That's very interesting magic.

[Hikari's standing nearby, hands folded in front of her as she watches Kai work, making sure to stay quiet so she doesn't break his concentration.]

[he blinks and looks over at her, smiling a little tiredly.]

Yeah, it is. I'm lucky to know it.

[he'll be at this for a while if she doesn't speak up, eventually throwing the paintbrush away and burying his face in that hand. only a dozen or so flowers are looking better after all that.]

You are! I'd think I was in Heaven if I could create flowers like that.

[then again, Aerith feels that way when she's gardening in general. she gets up and walks over to get a better look at what Kai's doing.]

[Kairi's been keeping an eye on the garden all summer to make sure it stays watered, but she didn't quite expect this. She gives a sad sigh, coming over to survey the damage.]

So...what happened here?

[She steps forward and kneels next to him, then notices his hand.]

And what happened to your hand?

I'd offer to teach you, but I have no idea how to do that.

[he grins a little, looking from Aerith to the "sky".]

I- well, it wasn't really me- got taught how to do these things by a sun goddess outside of the dressing room. I just got the memories from it from the Kai that was being taught, and apparently that was enough to be able to use the techniques.

No idea. I came in here and the place was like this.

[he looks down at his burnt hand still in his lap and sighs.]

It got burned.

[he keeps on trying to fix the flowers in front of him, slowly growing more and more frustrated when he can't get the lines down properly.]

...What are you doing?

[Because she's never seen any magic paintbrushes before.]

Trying to restore them.

[he could probably just do the wide lines straight on the ground for this, since they restore dead ground, but he's trying to teach himself to be more precise with his left hand.]

Ow.

[She actually winces; she'd burned herself like that cooking, but not bad enough to need badanges. She opens her mouth to ask how but has a feeling it's like what happened with Rikka(she's too young to know), so she just plops down next to Kai and mutters:]

I hate being a kid sometimes.

[Yes trying to get your mind off the frustration here.]

Why's that?

[he can understand the feeling, really, though sometimes he wishes he could go back to being kid!ignorant.]

'cause my friends get hurt and I worry enough about them to want to know what happened.

[Yes totally talking about Rikka here.]

And no one will tell you because you're too young, right?

[he sighs softly, looking at the flowers.]

I know it doesn't seem fair, but sometimes that's for the best.

That's kind of you.

[She'll watch from here, not wanting to get in his way while he works.]

Right.

[She slouches a little and runs her fingers over a couple of the flowers he fixed.]

I know....still doesn't make me feel any better though sometimes.

[She glances at the paintbrush and smiles a little.]

How does that work?

I just don't see the point of leaving the garden like this when I can help.

[after a few deep breaths, he attempts to steady his hand again and get back to work.]

I definitely know what you mean there.

[sigh, might as well pick the paintbrush back up. he fiddles with it for a moment, wondering how to explain it.]

It's a type of magic, obviously. It's part of a set of moves called the Celestial Brush techniques.

Mm, that is thoughtful.

[She doesn't want to interrupt his concentration though, so she'll be over here watering the still-intact plants.]

[some areas seem lucky enough that all they really need is for the ash and dirt to be washed off them~. so she can work on that while he does this.]

[And she will. After all, she made a promise to someone that she would take care of the garden during the hot summer weather.]
