some goodbyes are harder
[Sora and Roxas have been lying low for the past week or so, not wanting to intrude on the past events happening within their family. there wasn't much either could do to help, really, so staying out of the way seemed like the best option. Sora'd spent most of that time babysitting when asked to, and wondering if he'd made the right decision.]
[today, however, both are out and about again, right at the end of their family's hallway. Roxas is lost in his own little world, crouched down and facing the wall with his hand outstretched, like he's trying to rip open a dark corridor. Sora is standing nearby, glancing every so often at his Nobody, but his gaze is fixed down the opposite length of the hallway. he looks forlorn. their window of opportunity is so small, he couldn't even convince Roxas to let him at least go find his loved ones.]
... Tell me when it's ready, Roxas.

... Tell me when it's ready, Roxas.

... 'bug? Roxas?
no subject
Hey, Dad.
no subject
What're you two doing?
no subject
[that would explain why Roxas hasn't acknowledged Ri just yet, still hunched over in the corner in concentration. Sora glances back in his direction.]
no subject
I warned him that you can't get in and out of this place that easily. He didn't believe me. Of course. It's like the teenage years all over again.
no subject
[stops himself, and frowns.]
We'll just have to see, I guess.
no subject
*he knows you stopped yourself from saying something that might upset him*
no subject
It's just.. really important to me that I get back home, that's all. Roxas said they're hurting for help.
no subject
I know. And I know you can help. You're strong.
no subject
I'll do my best... You'll keep holding down the fort here?
no subject
I always do, 'bug. But you two try to be back to see your new little sister or brother born, okay? Or earlier...
no subject
I-- We'll try, Dad. I'm just sorry we don't have enough time to see everyone before leaving.

[cue a 23-year-old man tumbling all over himself to get to her. some things never change.]
no subject
Where are you going?
no subject
[turns around to glance at his Nobody, who doesn't even acknowledge them. with how lost in concentration he is, he may as well not even be there at all.]
no subject
no subject
[pauses.]
Hey, Dad?
no subject
How long... how long will you two be gone?
no subject
[frowns.]
no subject
*Your girlfriend is pouting pretty hard now.*
no subject
It's not looking so good right now. Bad enough that Roxas came back here looking for help.
[furrows his brows slightly.]
Maybe time'll pass differently there than it does here. Last time I went home I was there for.. something like six months. When I got back here not even half that amount of time had gone by.
no subject
*That pout morphs into a look of pain at the thought that her boyfriend is leaving for three months. Was he even going to tell her, or just let her worry herself to an early grave?*
no subject
[he feels like such an idiot- he probably looks like one, too, with how he's standing there and staring at his feet like a wounded dog. Sora hasn't known about leaving for very long-- he hadn't exactly expected to be dragged off back home without any warning or a chance to explain himself, either. he meant to sit down with Kairi and explain what he had to do, but like probably any other confident (and stupid) young man, he kept thinking he'd have more time. when Sora looks back up at her, there's guilt written all over his face.]
no subject
How long? You'll... be back soon? Like in a couple of weeks?
no subject
[he smiles a little. boy, does he know how much he deserves that walloping.]
no subject
no subject
Good. Now you have to give me a big smooch before you go though! That's the only way through me.
*She is fierce, hands on hips!*
no subject
[he's grinning, though, pfft, like he was actually gonna say no. Sora tugs her closer and bends down until their lips meet. he's gentle at first, but gradually grows more intense as the reality sinks in that he won't be able to hold her like this for a while.]

*She likes that kiss very much, and is definitely kissing back with passion and anticipated longing, trying to show him how much she'll miss him, and that he should hurry back home soon so she can give him more than just this taste.*
no subject
Hey.. Will you do me a favor?
[behind them, a mass of Darkness flares into something palpable, with a rather triumphant looking Roxas straightening beside it. seems he's finally opened a portal.]
no subject
no subject
*she's a bit startled by that portal opening, her eyes widening.*
no subject
Check the beach every couple of days. Okay?
no subject
*She smiles back, and tucks a few strands of hair behind his ear.*
no subject
[smiles.]
no subject
[he can practically feel Roxas getting antsy behind them, but Sora isn't letting go of Kairi for anything right now.]
Every time I see a beach, I'll send one. Hopefully one or two will get through.
no subject
no subject
I'll write back. Now go.
no subject
You two watch out for each other. And kick ass.
no subject
[he smiles, and kisses her one more time before he backs away, slowly heading in the direction of the portal.]
I love you. I'll see you soon.
no subject
no subject
I'll make sure Sora comes back in one piece, Ri.
no subject
*and he has to make himself let the two of you go, even though he wants to just hide you away from the world*
no subject
*she watches with a small smile on her face, and suddenly remembers something. A small, familiar and well-loved thalassa charm is flying in your direction, Sora!*
You know the drill, tiger. ♥
no subject
I will.
[he walks toward the portal now, but he keeps turning back to look at her, maybe lollygagging along to make his sight of her last. Sora offers up one final little wave before Roxas finally gets too impatient and herds him into the portal, which dissolves behind them until there's nothing but a lingering scent of Darkness.]
no subject
[Roxas is on the extreme side of anxious by now, and almost dragging Sora through the portal- all right, all right, buddy, Sora gives Ri a thumbs up and waves, then turns back to jog through the portal after Roxas. it'll be obvious that something was once there long after the portal dissipates; the stench of Darkness is pretty strong.]
