[in one of the regular training rooms, close to one of the more populated areas of the DR, Axel's taking some time to get back to basics, after kind of losing control while dealing with Marluxia. the room looks a bit like a traditional dojo inside, and the door's been left open, only because he forgot to go back and close it. there are several aged and battered training dummies lined up against one wall; he's facing away from them for now, seated cross-legged on a thin cushion on the floor, hands palm-up on his knees, meditating. or trying to, anyway. he seems to be a little fidgety. feel free to come in and help him with that part of it, or harass him, or whatever. :Db]

[is fidgety enough that he picked up Kai's scent about a minute ago. P: doesn't open his eyes, but grins a little lopsidedly.]

I'm glad you're here, I could use your help with this meditating crap. I'm a little out of practice with it.

[snorts and heads in, plopping down across from Axel.]

How exactly am I supposed to help you with "this meditating crap"?

I dunno, give me some pointers. I used to do it pretty often, but it's been years since I felt like I needed to. Y'want a cushion?

[pulls one out from under himself; turns out there were two there, to protect his bony ass from the hard floor. >.> ]

[Dressed in some training clothes of a tshirt and sweatpants, Kairi paused at the door she had been about to enter when she saw someone else in there. She took a moment to decide of they could share the room for meditating, before smiling faintly at how fidgety he looked.

Removing her shoes there at the doorway, she quietly walked in and spoke softly, moving to sit a little off to his side.]

Take a deep breath and try to not think of anything.

[breathes in slowly, memorizing her particular scent without even opening his eyes to look at her. he's not creepy, it's just how he identifies people. :D ]

That's the trick though, isn't it? Not thinking of anything is still thinking of something, and that's where I get hung up. The fact that I haven't done this in years isn't helping either.

[opens the other eye and looks at her properly.]

It's okay, you can come in.

It mostly happened by accident, and I managed alright without meditating as a first step, so it didn't really matter. It's kind of hard to "clear the mind, don't think about anything" when you've got someone else living up there, you know?

[taps his head ruefully, and puts the second cushion under the first one again.]

[Smiles a little more and walks over to him.]

[Don't be fooled by her age. She knows a lot of things that people wouldn't expect. Especially after meeting Marluxia.]

Pfft, clearing the mind.

[he waves a hand dismissively at that idea.]

Just tell Hachibi to stay quiet and focus on something. One thing. The sound of a fire going, maybe, or a certain scent. Something you can let yourself sink into.

[She wouldn't call it creepy; she identifies people by their darkness and light. Giving a soft hmm in thought, she moved towards the end of the room where there was a window and opened it a little, moving to go and sit back down nearby.]

Concentrate on the sounds outside, maybe that will work better. [There was a slight breeze and the soft chirping of crickets.] Just listening is a good beginning step.

[concentrates on the cricket noises for a moment, tuning his bijuu out as much as possible, and just feels the edge of that stillness he's looking for.]

[nods and thoughtfully pulls a second cushion out from under himself, setting it on the floor nearby in case she wants to sit down.]

Yeah. It's a little hard for me, always has been. I'm not very good at blocking out distractions.

Whenever I try to block things out, I just stare at the back of my eyelids. That way, 'm not really thinking of anything, and I cant see anything to distract me.

[grins a little and corrects his posture, which was starting to slump.]

They used to have us focus on a candle flame back in the village, but I always found that more distracting than helpful. Too tempting to play with it.

Then focus on something else.

[rolls his eyes, but then closes them and settles himself again. he has to cast around a bit for something to try and focus on; Kai's scent is too distracting, and there aren't too many steady sounds in here-- oh durr. turns his focus inward and listens to his heartbeat, slipping into a meditative calm after a few moments. if you want to sit and meditate with him, Kai, that would be lovely, and he won't be at it for very long, maybe ten minutes.]

[Sitting properly herself and resting her hands on her knees, palms upward, she sat up straight and smiled lightly when he spoke, not having wanted to disrupt him.] You're welcome, it's what I always have to use myself. I'm no good in a completely silent room, but little sounds help a lot.

Oof. That gives me a headache right away. Maybe I'm not doing it right.
