[it's kind of hard to be optimistic in a place like this, where it's hard to make friends and the ones you do make you never see again for whatever reason. not to mention, it's getting harder and harder to hide things now that they're getting worse and worse. Roxas just happens to be in the kitchen with his arms crossed on the table and his forehead pressed against them.]

I'm so stupid...

[rarely has any reason to enter the kitchen since she doesn't eat, but his voice makes her pause and she pokes her head in.]

How come?

[walks into the kitchen, singing.]

When I see you sky as a kite, as high as I might, I can't get that high
the how you move, the way you burst the clouds, it makes me want to try~

[stops, spotting Roxas.] Oh hey. What's up? And why are you saying you're stupid?

[tenses at the sound of her voice. he doesn't have anything about Kairi, it's just that she reminds him of Axel who reminds him of Sora, both of which aren't here, the fact itself being a topic he's been trying to keep off his mind for too long now. Roxas sighs and lifts his head, rubbing a hand over his face. he looks horribly exhausted and he's not even trying to hide it.]

I just...am.

[at the singing, Roxas lifts his head and rests his chin against his arms, watching the stranger through lazy eyes. he doesn't recognize the song, but the lyrics and the voice are a welcome distraction from everything else. when Demyx notices him, he manages a slight half smile and shrugs with a bit of effort.]

Not..much. You've got a nice voice.

[way to avoid the question with a compliment, Roxas.]

[frowns, stepping into the room to lean against the doorway.]

That's not a very good reason. If you don't feel like telling me, you can just say so, you know.

[leans his weight against his elbows on the table. his sleeves slip down to about mid-arm and his skinniness is made quite obvious.]

I'm stupid for kidding myself and lying to my friends.

[no point in beating around the bush.]

Ah...

[slips closer, wrinkling her nose slightly.]

You're sick.

[he must really look like shit if she's able to guess that quickly.]

..I must look pretty bad, huh.

[shakes her head, taking a seat across from him.]

No, you look a little bad, but I could smell it.

[raises his brows.]

..hm?

[He'd entered the kitchen intent on getting some juice, but stopped when he saw Roxas. Not liking to see anyone down in the dumps, he'd ambled over.]

Now what makes you say that?

I've got really good senses and you smell like... sickness.

[frowns.]

I don't know how else to explain it.

[frowns a little and glances away, reaching up to absently smooth his hair down.]

Sorry.

[a familiar voice, and one that he's been missing. Roxas lifts his head quickly, half expecting to see one of his best friends... but this Axel looks a little older with some other slight 'alterations'. hope is starting to turn into a very foreign thing.]

I'm a liar, and now I'm regretting it.

[he lifts his head in order to look at the older man, resting his cheek against his crossed arms.]

Don't apologize for something you can't control.

[waves a hand dismissively.]

It's not like it's so horrible I can't stand it. If it really bothered me, I'd leave.

[he gives a quiet, almost sarcastic snort and glances away again. he could have controlled it. but it's probably too late now.]

Ah.

So let me guess; you didn't tell your friends you were sick? Is that what you were lying to them about?

[leans forward to rest her elbows on the table.]

You're two for two..

I can be good at this guessing thing sometimes. I can understand why you wouldn't want to tell them, though.

[quiet, pointless sigh.]

[He sighed, and took the chair across from Roxas.]

Well now, at least you're learning your lesson. What'd you lie about, and to who?

Oh?

Tch...yeah.

Sora and...a you.

It's something really bad, isn't it.

..could be worse.

[He sighed.]

Well, while it's not good to lie to your friends, from what I know of Soras and myselves is that we're willing to forgive and forget. I'm sure they'd forgive you if you told the truth. Are they not here?
